She has a point. My birthday is just far enough between Thanksgiving and Christmas that I don’t get combo presents. (Ooh! I’ll be 59 in a couple of days.)
Mom’s birthday was on the 23rd. Dad always made a point of having a separate, big family party for her on the day. After the birthday festivities were done, the tree went up and was decorated.
December 24th is always special to me, because it’s the anniversary of my last day of work before my retirement began many years ago. Best Christmas present ever!
My SIL’s BD is on December 15th. I think I finally figured out the solution to mailing her presents. Wrap Christmas on the bottom with the Christmas card on top of that, and her birthday presents wrapped appropriately with a BD card on the top. One stop mailing! :)
I have a high-school friend that was born on Christmas day. I asked him how it felt to have Christmas on his birthday. He said they celebrate his birthday before Christmas Eve, so he could celebrate it as his own.
My daughter’s birthday is after Christmas, a few weeks, and I used to tell her it was good timing because I could pick up all the things that cost too much full price and get them for her on sale. As she got older, I offered a dollar amount for her birthdays and we went shopping together. We did that for many years. I miss it.
That’s a much better attitude than I had growing up. Of course, my birthday being on the 21st meant we were often still in school before the holiday break, which I thought terribly unfair.
One of my cousin’s is December 25th. When she was about 8 or 9 she would give birthday presents on the appropriate day and tell the recipient “This is your birthday AND Christmas present”. And reply to each protest, “You do it to me.” And would sweetly add, in later years, “The timing of my birth is no excuse for your cheapness.” And it worked.
Good attitude, Kate! My son has his birthday during Christmas break but he actually ends up with 2 birthdays. One we celebrate as a family and another when his friends all get back from Christmas holidays. Not a bad deal!
My Dad’s birthday was December 24. He hated it as a child because he only got presents that were supposed to be for his birthday/Christmas and never got a birthday celebration. When he married my mother, she made sure that there was a complete and separate celebration for his birthday!❤️ Memories …
My son was born on the 23rd, but due to Christmas holidays and a fever I had just after I woke from the anesthesia (unwanted!!) we didn’t get home until the 27th. My husband and I swore we would never give combined presents. He had his birthday, then Christmas.
In kindergarten there was a ceramic cake with a candle. On a child’s birthday the candle would be lit, and we all sang for the birthday kid before having snack. Those of us who had birthdays in the summer were given the last day of school as our combined birthday, and since it was the last day of school, there was no snack. That year 5 of us were cheated.
Yes, my birthday comes in January. So I was told, “You got your presents at Christmas, so don’t be countin’ on any for your birthday!” Sucked, but I usually always got a nice cake and ice cream from Gramma, plus $20!
I was supposed to have been a Christmas baby, but I decided to arrive early and was born three days before Thanksgiving that year. I’ve never been early since. ;-)
My birthday is December 15. Fine when you are a kid, but as an adult currently my Christmas Wish is that my mid December birthday gets noticed in the middle of everyone Christmas shopping…. and Christmas shopping is such a hassle that I just wrap calendars and…. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year….

Mine’s the 26th. And no, I never got birthday presents. I’ve never had to go to school or work on my birthday though.
