Had to explain the /s to someone in the Tarzan comic strip lately. Heâd taken a horrifying comment as serious and was shocked⊠and a little curious what that /s at the end meant.
When I make an obviously outrageous political statement , I have to â/sâ because people think I believe it to be true. That is how weird it is getting.
Uh, Paige? Do you really want to spend Spring Break with Jason (and Quincy) in tow? Oh, and donât even THINK about turning up the heat in the houseâŠ
The most annoying thing you can do to someone whoâs being sarcastic is to not hear it and act as if theyâre being genuine. It never fails to infuriate them.
When I was her age I would have done anything to spend time, doing a puzzle with my narcissistic mother. I just didnât know she was at that time and or why she hated me so much. Young people just donât know what they have until itâs gone
My school never had Spring Break. I always thought it was just for college until I raised my own kids in a different state and they had it in elementary school.
Spring break was a wonderful time for teachers to take a break and plan for the rest of the school year, or just destress (try spending 8 hours with bouncy 10 year olds or surly teens all day, every day!). The bummer is that dumped kids at home when parents needed to work. Schools should provide child care during breaks, but that would require a country that actually cares about itâs children and families.
The slash s bit is a nice new twist, but itâs still the tired olâ clueless dad bit. I also donât care for mother-in-law jokes and fat wife jokes. Some things are better left in the past.
I donât think spring break was even a thing when I was in high school back in the â70s. And if it was, it DEFINITELY didnât include high school kids.
50s and 60s schools in Western NY had âEaster Vacationâ Thursday or Friday through the following week. Back then many union workers had only half day on Good Friday, supposedly so they could spend the afternoon in church.
In my lifetime, spring break was a chance for overtime and make some bank. Hell, I can party anytime, but the coin I made paid for a lot of future adventures.
Back in my day (she crackled in a wizened voiceâŠ), Spring Break just meant a chance to sleep late, read a ton of (non-assigned) books, and catch some TV without homework hanging over my head. By the time it meant traveling to the nearest coast and getting blackout drunk and sick and making life-altering decisions â I was toiling away at a âreal jobâ that didnât give a spring break. :-)

A lot of guys just hear the words. They donât usually listen to the contextual clues when anyone is talking.

I hope in a comic strip of the summer of 2025, the Foxtrots will travel to a warm island, I want to see them go out more.

As a note, there is a regular daily strip in Foxtrot Classics today, for the third Sunday in a row. Not sure why GC has suddenly started doing this.

Comics like this are prime examples of how the world would benefit from a Sarcasm font.

Paige, youâre a high school freshman. If they did send you away for spring break it would just be a waste of time.

Growing up, during spring break I had to go plant tomatoes.
