Dad: "Thought I'd put some shrimp on the barbie while we listen to Olivia Newton-John! Then we'll watch Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman movies!"
Dad: "Too soon?"
Mom: "Quill's plane only left and hour ago"
Luann: "One hour, seven minutes and 14 seconds"

It is now time for Luann to move on. This is just a part of growing up, and accepting what happened. Time to let him go.

I bet he’ll be back before too long.

All good as long as they don’t play Air Supply.
Ottodesu over 12 years ago
Sorry, Air Supply were very talented guys, but their hits were middle of the road pap.

what, no Paul Hogan “Crocodile Dundee” nor Disney’s “The Rescuers Down Under”?

Apparently, Frank’s an insensitive clod.
Arbitrary over 12 years ago
Well you already messed up there, Dad. Aussies call shrimp “prawns”.
lance96816 over 12 years ago
Too soon to tell.
kfccanada over 12 years ago
You gotta give the dad credit for trying, you know. A dad doesn’t usually stay on top of teen romances as mom’s usually do.
Cofyjunky over 12 years ago
Ooh! Major fail, Frank. (Ouch!)
BenderSastre over 12 years ago
How about “Young Einstein”?
firedome over 12 years ago
and to that aussie top 40 survey you can add little river band, men at work, rick springfield, midnight oil, ac/dc, the easybeats (lead man george young was older brother to angus and malcolm young) and in a roundabout way, the bee gees.
barbarasbrute over 12 years ago
Luann, I’m surprised you’re not ‘tracking his flight’.
greenbird over 12 years ago
Why would anybody want to watch a Nicole Kidman movie? That’s just cruel, dad.
Sisyphos over 12 years ago
Frank is just a little too quick with a quip. He should have noticed how Nancy is comforting Luann, with her arm around her, and how Luann is keeping track of the minutes and even seconds on her smartphone. (I was going to mention Men At Work, but firedome beat me to it….)

Lord I hated those years (growing up). Time for a different thread, please!!

How about Eric Bana, Cate Blanchett, or Chris Hemsworth?

As an expat, being shipped anywhere just doesn’t happen that fast…it takes months of gutwrenching stress and upheaval!
Artistic license, etc., etc., etc…..but even a period of weeks would have been more realistic.
YankeeFan56 over 12 years ago
So……. changing the subject…..From which parent did Luann get her golden locks from?

Anyone want to bet there is soon a knock on the door tomorrow or saturday and quill is still in town for whatever reason?
TiffWHO over 12 years ago
The knock on the door would be Gunther with Comic Con tickets which would be a surprise as they’ve been sold out for months!

“Grieving takes time” because people take time to grieve. And, in this case, it’s not as if there will be no contact or connection at all. Nevertheless, we should have compassion!
MDeB over 12 years ago
I recon she needs a bit of Rolf Harris and his didgeridoo.

Uh, Frank?
You’re NOT Helping, Dude.
On the OTHER hand: “THANK God and Greyhound, Quill’s Goooooooooone!”

Frank is not insensitive, he’s just a typical male.
I wonder if LuAnn had a mother-daughter moment and shared about the kiss with her mom?

But who’s counting?

“@Dave53
“no, What’s on second …”
I don’t give a darn."..Thank you (both)..Not being a local I had only heard a little bit from the beginning of this. This prompted me to find it and I’ve now read it all (and I now understand your reply).

What about playing some Men At Work.

Glad someone brought up Rolf Harris. But we’re missing Joan Sutherland and Nellie Melba.
David Huie Green LoveJoyAndPeace over 12 years ago
The child needs grieving time. We’ll let her sulk as long as she wants to. The father isn’t insensitive; females are simply inscrutable. -Whodathunk it would take more than one hour, 7 minutes and 14 seconds to get over the loss of whatshisname?
JimT8 over 12 years ago
Only during her last hour with him did she clearly see the possibilities, and then it was too late. Hopefully she has learned from this, and when and if another person she likes arrives, will not wait, but hold tight to the chance she has to be with someone..I agree with you this time.
pedalflower over 12 years ago
How about “Mad Max”? or “The Dingo Ate My Baby”. That might cure her.

Maybe Luann will be like Cheech Marin in Shrimp On The Barbie?

Oh give Luann a break. She is doomed to be unrequited in love as part of the strip and as a character, but then she is a kid, give me a break!! If she is ever going to be allowed to go to college then there will be new levels of unrequited love, although maybe that could be a reason she hasn’t gone, because usually in college there is requiting of one type or another. I do know one thing, none of these guys are that impressive to me really, but Quill has his points. I want to see the effect on Luann if Brad and Toni get married, or horrors, break up!!
ablewisster over 12 years ago
that’s way nice of her dad though, to know that she needs a mini pity party. it’s the best cure for teenage girls

it would be awesome if Luanne did a student exchange. I don’t think we’ve ever seen that in a comic strip before…
samwas35 over 12 years ago
Indeed! I wouldn’t mind taking her on a, uh, “walk about”!!!

Seems that Luann is taking all of this very well. She’s not sobbing uncontrollably.

@RubyRedRing …
“Please enlighten me, what is “brainbleach”?
…
It is a term coined by Mojitobaby, our Grand Postmaster / Postmistress here, which means, loosely, to in effect, clean the remains of a possibly off – color or borderline lewd post from the brains of the more innocent comment posters. Prior to two days ago, I had never seen that terminology..This term was not originated by mojito, I’ve heard the term, and even used it, long before I started reading comics here, and refers to anything you would prefer not to remember.
RubyRedRing54 over 12 years ago
Wow, thanks, you really put some thought into this
Charles Weir over 12 years ago
I got to see Greg Evans at ComicCon and talked to him about this arc. He said you could only go so far in the comics. A few years ago there was a short arc that ended with Luann’s parents, well, um, getting it on. Nothing was really shown, but he had alternatives just in case newspapers didn’t want to run them.
