The one where Tiffany suddenly comes to the realization that her father has the ability to smile. That’s one step closer to believing her father is human and not simply a machine that exists to dispense money to her.
Oh no, Tiffany can’t let all of Ann’s years of despicable behavior slide because she sees that Ann makes her father smile! And I bet her father wouldn’t smile if he knew what a weasely phony Ann really was.
This is about to be a life lesson for Tiffany. It’s too easy to dismiss people that you find objectionable, but maybe there is some redeeming value to Ann here. Hmm, it is just a comic strip, so maybe not…
Ah. As I thought, Tiffany was going to continue her “path of destruction.”
But she now notices a picture of her dad with Ann and he’s smiling. Whatever Tiff or anyone else thinks of Ann, SHE makes Tom happy. And like it or not Ann has taken Tiffany’s place in Tom’s uh, “heart.”
Time for our favorite blonde to cut her losses and move on. Get Ann’s stuff off the lawn, clean it, and put it back in the closet. When Tom gets back, LIE and wish him all the happiness in the World. Then MOVE. And in the Fall, get together with Bets and get back to studying like your life depended on it. FORGET the Hall A Gang, FORGET Parties, FORGET your dad. And SAVE your money. Tiff SHOULD develop a very close friendship with Simone of Souffle. Maybe there’ll be a summer job waiting for her next year in Paris. And a job there AFTER she graduates from college.
Sorry Kid. Sometimes you just have to let family go. Hey. Talk to Gunther. He knows a little bit about stepping aside and not getting in the way of a parent’s “happiness.”
Uh-oh. Tiffany now realizes Tom is too besotted with Ann and she could never open his eyes about Ann. Quickly, Tiff, pick up Ann’s clothes and refresh them for 3 minutes low heat in the dryer and rehang them in the closet. Pack Ann’s yoga stuff in one of those boxes she used to pack your stuff. Unpack your stuff and order a new bed on dad’s tab. If Ann screeches, say, “I’ve moved back home. I need a bed. I don’t know what happened to my old one. I suggest you to move your yoga stuff to one of those den rooms.” Your dad has been asking for you to move back home – make that happen. THAT won’t make Ann happy and in turn she will be miserable to Tom. This has the making of a unhappy relationship for Ann and Tom, leading to an eventual break up. All because the daughter came back home.
Tiffany never sees her dad smile? The implication is that Ann makes him outwardly happy. He seems almost like an adult autistic. Still too little information to see where this is going to figure it out, but it is a journey of discovery for her.
Now the point comes: Is he TRULY happy, and Ann is going to pull the rug out from under him when the money runs low, or does she actually have some feelings for Tom? I’d wager on the former, but I hope he’s not flying so high that he can’t survive the eventual crash-n-burn…..
Regardless, it means Tiff has to tread lightly and let it play out.
I don’t know about just letting her dad be happy as so many are stating. If a person is awful except for in specific circumstances then they are just awful. Ann has shocked many negatives. Tiff just needs to have a heart to heart with her dad and hear his side first before explaining her views. Then he can just tell her what he thinks and she either has to deal with it or put more space between her and her father’s life. But Tiffany has been getting a lot of reality checks about herself. I’d hate to see her just fail.
No no Tiff! You’re doing it all wrong! You have to play it smart. “Well, Ann, I needed a space to plan my business company, and I would’ve used my room, but your Precious Yoga retreat was in there, so I found some useless room, cleared it out and started doing my work there. Oh, it’s YOUR room? I didn’t know. Well, your stuff is all in the tip, if you want to get it back.”That’s how I’d play it.
Maybe Tom’s smiling because he knows who and what Ann really is…It could be an “I’m smiling because I know what you are, you’ll never get a penny of my money and I’m using you ’til I get bored Ann” kind of smile. In the end, I highly doubt GnK will let her win. I predict a major fall into the depths of hell by Ann. Maybe not tomorrow or next week or next month, but it’s going to happen. And, I hope its in some glorious, outrageous fashion.
GnK can’t fool me about Ann Eiffel. She’s a consummate con artist, period. All this points out is that Tom is a sap and will get burned. She exhibits that she knows it’s a con by attempting to drive a wedge between Tom and Tiffany. She wouldn’t need to do this if she thought Tom was totally in her clutches.
Face it. Who is more likely to turn out to be a caring person Tiffany, Tom or Ann?
Yes, Tiffany. Ann has invaded your space in Daddy Tom’s heart. He hasn’t indicated any interest in you throughout this current episode. I’m becoming more and more like Kymberleigh, above. GnK need to resolve this issue with Ann and Dad or just write them out as characters worth spending further time on. As they did with Pru.
At this point, since it’s a comic strip named after someone I have only seen a couple of times, just let the house burn down around them and put those three in the past. The constant flip flopping of these characters seems to be a story the writer has not really planned out or doesn’t know how to play this story out. So let’s get back to the guy with the kitten stuck to him that he says he dislikes, but we know he loves that kitten.
This is huge. Tiffany’s reaction suggests that she never saw her father smile. It’s sad and very heavy. Tom does not have my sympathy, but he’s certainly a sad character. Maybe his wife’s abandonment left him traumatized and unable to show his feelings. Maybe Evil Ann really does have some positive parts. Tiffany is in the corner between her opulent past life and her father’s happiness. Sadly, if she loves her father, she has to accept that Ann is with him.
Shed the emotional baggage and carry on with the “job” at hand, Tiff! Though Ann will probably only use it as an excuse to have you permanently chucked out of your home and to get herself a brand-new wardrobe…
An indication of maturing. Now, how can she keep her father smiling while protecting him from a woman running a scam on him?
Those who are bored by this comic have not paid attention. That is usually the case of boredom, not interested so not realizing something is interesting.
I did not see this coming! Now she realizes evil Ann makes Dad smile and possibly, happy? Is she thinking, “who is she is destroy that”? Will she back off, recover the clothes and “behave” herself, letting Ann continue to walk over and sabotage her, or will she renew her enthusiasm to be a successful businesswoman, find her old “tutor”, or a combination? Decisions, decisions! :-o
GROAN! The “She makes him happy, so I need to accept her” sequence. Old. Tired. BORING! And there’s NO WAY Ann really makes anyone happy. She’s a scourge…
This is why I love the Luann strip. Character growth. Will Tiffany change? And how? We don’t know! There are very few strips or even TV shows with this kind of Character arcs.
Ann threw her son away and is now throwing her boyfriend’s daughter away. Bad behavior! Bad person! Doesn’t say much for Tiff’s father at all. I hate when people just decide they are done parenting. In reality you are never done parenting.
yesterday i was hoping that some cooler head would intercept and advise Tiffany. But this is even better. Tiff comes to the realization, on her own, that her desire for her dad to be happy is greater than her hatred for Ann.
She was stormin’ mad and hulking out (smash! destroy!) so she obviously wasn’t looking in the dresser for any financial documents to prove Ann is a scammer.
She was looking for Ann’s expensive, genuine Souffle Lingerie so she could rip them to shreds. And add more “losses” that Ann could claim and demand repayment for.
Luckily, she stopped in her tracks when she was the photo of her Dad actually smiling. I’m shocked. Tune in tomorrow? Tiff has a change of heart and fetches Ann’s clothing and cleans it up and re-thinks her plan? Any of the plans proposed by the posters above are better than what she was doing.
1) Resign herself to living in the mansion, but keeping as much distance as possible between herself and Ann. Don’t scream, yell, steal or destroy.
2) Leave NOW with her boxed stuff, and hope that she can mooch a room from Irma, or Gunther/Les or the DeGroots or 12 x12 garage room from Craigslist, to tide her over while she’s in college. Don’t scream, yell, steal or destroy.
(both 1 & 2 endgame) Study like mad, getting as much help as she needs, stay away from the Hall-A gang. Get that degree, go into business (for herself, or with Simone). Let Tom deal with the fallout of the trap he’d sprung.
Crap. I did NOT want Ann Eiffel redeemed in any form or fashion. She has been built up as the ultimate -itch. It’d be a letdown for her to hold hands with everyone and sing Kumbaya. Oh well, just my opinion. We will see where Greg takes it from here.
I’d love to see the look on Evil Annie’s and Tom’s faces if they came home and found Tiff and Les in their bed. Of course, this will never happen for one reason, and one reason only. Greg will not let us see Tom’s face.
Okay, I confess, I did not see this coming. Tiff seems to have come to the realization that Tom is (or seems to be) happy with Ann Awful. Now, what will she DO with that? I don’t see her letting Ann off the hook so easily. I do see her retrieving Ann’s stuff and putting it back, then we’ll have a week of watching Tiff sit around and contemplate her navel (or her life, whatever…). Tiff needs to move. Moving “home” will only result in murder. Or, in real life, that’s how it would end. But, this is a comic strip. The person who draws it is a bit of a sadist, so who knows. It’s summer, so maybe Tiff can increase her hours at the Fuse, or maybe get a part-time job at a nail salon. Then she needs to move out. NOT with Lu, or Gunther. On her own, or with a brand new roommate. Covid does not exist in Luannaverse, so many things are possible. I do know I’m getting pretty darn tired of seeing Tiff crapped on. And anyway, isn’t this strip supposed to be about Luann?
Tom Farrell is happy because Ann Eiffel is filling a void in his life. At the same time, he is turning a blind eye and a deaf ear to his daughter’s suffering.
Ann Eiffel is happy because she gets to spend Tom’s money, and hurt Tiffany at every opportunity.
Tiffany is happy because…? Well, let’s face it. She’s not happy. She’s been demoted to housekeeper and has to clean a huge mansion all by herself. She may have the house to herself for now, but if she stays there, Ann will continue to hurt her and Tom will continue to ignore her.
Tiffany needs to get out while she can. She can use these weeks to save up for an apartment. Perhaps she has some stuff in those boxes she could sell. Once she’s out of there, she can focus on what makes her happy. She still has her job at The Fuse. She can enroll in beauty school in the fall, and perhaps do some part-time work in a salon/spa. Business school has too many distractions, and the less time she spends with Tom and Ann, the better.
Tom Farrell may be happy now, but it’s just a matter of time before he finally opens his eyes and sees Ann Eiffel for who she really is. Then, we’ll see if he’ll ever be man enough to be a father to his daughter.
A moment of dramatic reversal. Tiffany has a major change of heart, her love for her unlovable father taking precedence over her hatred for Ann, who makes Daddy smile as Tiff never could…..
It’s all very poignant. But now Tiffany has to retrieve Ann’s clothes, tidy them up, and re-hang them in her closet. And settle into sad, lonely, but respectful housesitting.
And then it’s off to life as it is, on her own again….
