Some predicted these panels were an intro to the pandemic, which I personally poopooed. I have to admit I was wrong. Previously I spotted three Sunday panels that I felt referred to the pandemic, but now this panel refers to not only the pandemic, but all the social and cultural and obliquely the political inflection point we are in during the in-week rotation. The whole world is holding it’s breath, and Luann is very gently reflecting that. The US is the true Rome of our age, every country is waiting to see what we do. Scary, but I have faith.

This appears to be Greg’s acknowledge of Covid-19. It’s been six months of suspended animation with maybe another six months to go. Dez has the right idea — focus in the things you can do.

A lot of us have been eating more during the quarantine. Is it just me or did Luann sudden look 10 pounds heavier in the last panel than in the first. Straight pants legs going puffy in the last.

A çommunity garden? In a pandemic? Where businesses are shutting down (forcibly in some cases), and people were being isolated (again, forcibly in some cases)? As much as I could see Dez being allowed to do that. A personal garden maybe. But hey, I live in Michigan. Our governor even put a restriction on buying grass seed (I’m being serious here).

I like what Greg is doing with today’s strip. It’s definitely been a rough year, but the little things like taking a walk or getting a breathe of fresh air have been a comfort during this time.

Ah. It’s seems as though even Dez didn’t take a vacation trip this year. And she appears to have a have a good, good heart, planting, growing and maintaining a 21st Century “Victory Garden,” for her “community.” Although, considering it’s Dez, I’d hesitate to ask ‘What’ exactly she was growing in that “garden.”

Let’s Hope Dez and her hardworking friends are able to enjoy the harvest and Share the fruits of their labors with those who truly need it.

Before someone comes along and TAKES it……,

Luann occupies her time worrying and not getting a whole lot accomplished. Bern manages to hit the books but not much else. Dez on the other hand has made good use of her time. Most 20 year olds are a lot like Luann as far as having poor organization skills, major issues over their social life and generally making mountains out of mole hills and so on….. Dez is truly one of a rare breed. But then again, how old is she? When I was a freshman at FSU in the dorms there was a few older students who were scattered in the housing. Most older students either stayed off campus or if married got into the married housing but I remember one guy who was on our floor my first semester and ancient by my standards at that time (he was probably 26 or so) and I am pretty sure he was not a 9th year freshman like Bluto in Animal House or the guy on the hall who would dole out the bags of recreational herbs at times; he seemed to simply be working on his education. Perhaps Dez is an older student as well who for some reason or another chose the dorm life……

The trouble with Luann is that she is not making a joke. Being so self-absorbed, she would actually consider her overeating a valid comparison to the world’s “uncertainty, anger and frustration”. It’s a me me me world for Luann.

The anger, uncertainty, frustration and over-eating symptoms of Covid-19 isolation seem to be the same as those of our comic characters problems. I Like Dez’s response. This is a clever way to acknowledge some of the virus’s effects without addressing it directly. Unless they all start volunteering, I don’t see them staying in this arc very long. But then again…….. ?

Getting boring. Needs to be a point. This banter seems pointless. And while Greg want to keep the rating GP, these kids are adults now and we need to elevate their interactions to those of young adults.

I held my peace as long as I could.

I confess I was a bit put off by Luann’s comment about eating. beb01 called my attention to it, that apparently, Luann’s pants filled out between panel one and panel three.

I tire of the trope, “I eat, therefore I’m fat” – the worst example being Over the Hedge where RJ instantly becomes a beach ball whenever he gets his paws on Twinkies.

But the comments here, people pouncing on Luann for her weight!

Perhaps I should do a Trilogy:

COME ON! YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING!
