As a little girl I stayed with my great aunts and uncle on weekends. My uncle had to get up early with my uncle so he’d read the paper and give me the funny pages. That’s when my love of Nancy began. That was in the 50’s. Thanks for bringing it all back for me and letting us all say good-bye.
…So the "Nam vet ex-truckers are ( Both of them?) Phil’s uncles? And they will be full-time parents to uhh I now? As I said yesterday, I didn’t know they were designated characters til’ this art, I did indeed miss the earlier arc that established this…
…They appear to have gone to the unt May Looking Like Proper Old People school!!!!!!!!!!! A ’ ‘Nam vet could easily be 62 or so, maybe a little younger…Brad’s name was on last week’s Sunday too IIRC, and tbis week’s is " A Guy Gilchrist Production "…
Nice wedding gown on Fritzi, by the way. Also, nice music choice; me, I would have saved it for the bride and groom’s first dance at the reception, but I guess things were pressed for time. (With the Captain and Tennille’s The Way I Want to Touch You thrown in for good measure.) And so, the Gilchrist Era moves to the Nancy Classics page (along with all the drooling Fritzi v.2.0 fans awaiting her reappearance). As I previously said, thank you for making faith a pillar of the strip, instead of a punchline or a punching bag. Well done, and Godspeed in your next project!
Speaking of music, I’m surprised Three Rocks doesn’t seem to have a bagpiper in town. The Wedding Song (There is Love) works very nicely on the pipes, and would have made a good entrance for the bride at the ceremony.
Has Tom Brenner been doing coloring all along ? If not then I can only guess that Guy’s significant other was peeling onions while he was finishing up illustrating.
I’m happy for you, Guy and appreciate your reply to my note back in the early “Ohs” when I first rediscovered Nancy and gave praise for you staying close to the original art of Ernie !
The real act of marriage takes place in the heart, not in the ballroom or church or synagogue. It’s a choice you make – not just on your wedding day, but over and over again – and that choice is reflected in the way you treat your husband or wife. Barbara De Angelis

A wedding, a great wedding, is just a blast. A celebration of romance and community and love… What is unfun about that? Nothing. Ariel Levy

Our whole wedding cost 180 bucks. Afterward, we re-heated lasagna for everyone and set off fireworks. Larry the Cable Guy
All weddings, except those with shotguns in evidence, are wonderful. Liz Smith
No jealousy their dawn of love overcast, nor blasted were their wedded days with strife; each season looked delightful as it past, to the fond husband and the faithful wife. James Beattie
I agree. A lovely way to end the strip. But it’s hard to see it go. I’m 75 and have seen the strip all my life. Another great one gone. It’s true that some of the newer strips are as good as the old ones, but generally I don’t think they are funny, don’t understand them or both. Thanks Mr. G.
I will really miss this ray of sunshine in my day. I grew up with Nancy, & just rediscovered her a few months ago. I do hope that there will be a Nancy classics. Sigh. Beautiful ending, though. Saw the Beach Boys in concert many times during my high school years of 70-74 in Southern California. Lots of great memories flooding back with today’s strip. Sigh.
I’ll add my thanks, Guy. “Nancy” has always been such a positive, feel-good comic, and I’m sorry to see it end. The finale is kind of hitting me hard, too, now that it’s here. I respect your wishes regarding the strip, though, and wish you all the best in the future. Come back and see us.
I, too, would love to see a reboot of the strip from the beginning. I suspect we may have to wait a few days or a week, but it’d be nice.
I’ve been reading Nancy for about 57 years and have seen comic books back to almost WW2. Out of all the authors, Guy is the best. The strips have more feeling and the drawings are softer. Sluggo has more of a personality. And Fritzi loves all of the oldies that I do! I will miss the most Oona and her loveable strangeness (which I wish Guy had done more of). Farewell, Guy, and many blessings to you on your new endeavors!
Nice to see Nancy end on a happy note. :) (Would prefer for Nancy to not end at all, but I digress) And what a happy note it is! Thank you, for entertaining me and other readers. :)
Thank you for a happy ending (though I wish it wasn’t an ending). It’s going to be hard to live happily ever after with no new Nancy strips to look forward to.
know I am getting old as those comic strips I have followed for 40+ years are ending. thank you for your artistry. this strip and themes will be missed. blessings for your future.
This is so depressing. I have tears in my eyes knowing that I’m saying goodbye to one of the best strips of my entire life. It has been there and been my friend through the long years. Sorry to see it go!!!!
Now Nancy will join Little Iodine, Little Lulu, Dondi, Winthrop, and Priscilla and her Pop —those delightful comic book and comic strip children who brightened many lives. They are gone from our pages but will live forever in our hearts. Goodbye, Nancy.
I would so much like a continuation of the cat which Sluggo found, the orange one, – forgot his name – who spoke slang…. I loved him so much!!!! Just a new/followup comic only of the adventures of that cat, the rest of the persons would be … environmental/context…. that would be nice.
Thanks Guy! I’ve enjoyed Nancy since the 60’s; sorry to see the strip go but your send-off was well done and satisfying. Best of luck to you in your new ventures.
