If these 1000 places are scattered about the world, how do you get the money to visit all of them? This book would be more useful for Nelson. Hopefully, he will become athletic enough to visit Tibet and other places his granddad probably won’t visit.
That would be a good purpose for VR. I would pay for apps to see the Louvre, pyramids and other attractions. They have one for the ocean I saw the other day.
Geez, Earl, there’s THE WEB: I’ve spent many an afternoon “visiting” places I’ll never see in person. And, at this point in my life, that’s the best way: no airport lines, no cranky passengers, no dirty bathroom facilities. . .not to mention the odors of some places. . .
“Seeing” and “experiencing” are two different things. I’m not against a meaningful pilgrimage to a place that is special to you for some reason. On the other hand, twelve countries in six days is merely an exercise in itinerary. You might as well just say you went.
As others have mentioned Earl, there is a difference between seeing and going. Surely you have “seen” most if not all of those, so you can comfortably rest on your laurels. Relax and enjoy Nelson’s company.
Many of us seniors have seen the elephant and now simply want to do what we enjoy: sleep, nap, eat, and play guitar. And if there is a morning paper, enjoy it with a favorite morning drink.
So many of the places “you need to see” are tourist attractions and overhyped so that they are over crowded. You can see more in a picture, because in person, you can’t get very close. You spend a lot of money for the less than pleasant experience. They don’t tell you about the cold or the heat, the bugs and the SMELLS.
During my service years, I had been to several countries, and I have traveled to various states, here. However, in the grand scheme of things, I’ve always wondered about the audacity of people who make the decisions on where we are supposed to go, and what we should see, before dying.I have traveled enough to be able to say, I would be very happy to be able to just spend my days, kicked back with a lot of good books.

You can “see” them all just by reading the book. If you want more, “visit” them each on the internet. Anything beyond that is extra.

You don’t have to go to all of them, Earl…just pick the one closest to you and visit it!

I have a feeling, Earl wasn’t that dynamic in his youth, either.
Maybe Earl’s respecting the Earth and not wasting fuel, just to amuse himself?
