Slaves. Pet me, slave! Feed me, slave! Bow to my every demand, slave! What do you mean I’m in your chair? Don’t be ridiculous! Everything in this house belongs to me, including YOU!
Shortly after my daughter brought home their new pup, it was testing each member of the family for dominance, and losing: son-in-law first, then my daughter, then their 6’3" son, then their daughter; and the final indignity was a scratch on the nose from the cat.
One rainy day Morgan was going from door to door, complaining. My husband said, “He thinks we’re gods.” I said, “No, he thinks we’re omnipotent slaves.” (That was many years ago; we no longer let our cats out, at least not unsupervised.)
A well-trained dog regards one person as leader of the pack. Unfortunately, in my experience, most dogs are allowed to lead the household pack.
A new neighbor was affronted when I told her she could not let her two massive Great Danes roam loose in the neighborhood, even “by accident”. Two days later, they were causing cars to brake and swerve on the busy roadway. Animal Control came out and gave her the same message Officially.

A heating pad. The colder it gets, the more the cats want to sleep on my lap.

They don’t; “regard” would imply mental capability beyond the autonomic. Yeah – no, not in a cat.

I think that Earl might agree with Muffin, for once. The Opal and Earl are about as active as furniture. Of course, Earl digs that lifestyle.

Not often mentioned is that humans are pack animals as well. We usually call a “pack” a “tribe”.

Pretty much. Annoying furniture that moves, and occasionally feeds us.

I’m pretty sure my cat sees me as the leader of the pack, small as that pack may be.
There’s a cat that visits often, she sees him as a playmate, but not of the pack.
