Yes, Arlo. I have heard that they now come without a power switch that can be pushed or turned to bring power to the the set. So no remote then no way to turn it on.
The new ones do have switches but they are hidden and if you need to set them up you need a controller. The one I bought a couple of months ago you have to log into their website with your smart phone. It was a real pain.
Who doesn’t have a backup remote? As a joke the kids bought me a giant old man universal remote with half inch buttons. Once I found the proper codes I bought a second which also had glow in the dark buttons. Life is full.
Two things I miss about my old Samsung Galaxy S5 phone: A removable battery, and an IR emitter that allowed you to use the phone as a programmable remote control.
Designate “one” spot on a couch-side table exclusive for the remote and train yourself and the rest of the family to use it. Don’t even look for buttons on the TV set. You are living in the 21st century.
We had to trash our last TV because it no longer responded to the remote. A new remote didn’t help and there were no buttons on the TV. We replaced it with a computer monitor with buttons! 90% of what my wife uses it for is computer-based anyway, like Continuing Education.
We have a cable box, so having buttons to turn on the TV doesn’t mean much. Even if you turn the TV on you can’t change channels without the remote for the “box”.
The lack of tactile controls is a truly mindbogglingly stupid design trend these days. It’s annoying on a TV, even more so on my Bose clock radio (a tiny remote for an alarm clock in a dark bedroom, really? I bought an old one with buttons on top instead.)
Yeah. Lost the remote. I think one of the cats batted it into the trash can and I didn’t notice until too late. Luckily, the remote to my DVD player (a different brand, by the way, also works on the TV.
I cheat, My remote is stuck to a clipboard along with other remotes… Lord knows where the original went… it’s probably residing along with all the missing socks from the black hole from the dryer!
Just like the “turning into your parents” Progressive insurance commercial, my remote is velcroed to the side of an end table. Have never lost it. Now if only I could velcro my cat.
A couple of months ago one of the dogs chewed on the Sony Blu-Ray controller, damaging it beyond hope. I took a deep breath, prepared for the cost, but found the exact OEM controller on Amazon for about $8.
I asked at Wally World if there was a TV that was just a TV. I was told no. You buy one today, you have to take all the garbage that comes with it. Too bad. When my “just a TV” dies, I won’t replace it. It’s like the alleged smart phones. They come with stuff you don’t want and then you can’t get rid of it.
I have a tv where the buttons are touch and hidden in the front bezel. found out by accident after going nuts looking for remote. was all set to toss the tv
A kind of funny story: we lost the remote to Alexa, and it must be in our couch, but with extensive searching, we can’t find it. But my daughter sat on the couch one day and the TV turned on! That renewed the search, although I ordered a new remote. Still haven’t found the old one.
You do realize as an “Older Adult” I can remember TV’s that didn’t require a remote. Just a willing watcher, who in my house was me, had to get up and change the channels. I was harder to lose…
my wife is 1 of 13 kids. He father said the chances were good there’d always be 1 of them around to change the channel for him. I was an only child so you know what I always had to do
This makes me wonder if you took a tv from the 60’s and asked a millennial to make it work, would they figure it out? My wife saw a show in which they did this with a dial phone, and the millennials could not figure it out.
To all the naysayers: I own a TV and cable! it’s the only way I can get Formula 1 without paying an arm and leg to Sky TV. Just to sweeten the pot: I have a turntable (and about 350 records) and a Reel to Reel on my stereo system. Old fashion enough for ya?

And even if you do find a button, it won’t be labeled. It will just have an icon that’s impossible to decipher.

I attach strings to my remotes, and anchor them to the device (dvd player, etc) they’re required by. It works very well.

Try using that expensive software you purchased (cough) rented that’s based on an internet connection when you go to the cottage/campground.

Most TVs have at least a hidden power button and buttons to control sound etc. They’re just hiding them like they do on PC monitors

I never lost the remote to my BETA VCR: it was wired. You plugged it in and ran the wire across the room to the couch.

When will they have a button on the TV that you press to cause the remote to beep within a 100’ foot radius? Doesn’t seem that difficult.
