Who’s been spying on me?

Everybody does.

No, I usually tell them, “I’ll be back in a few hours!”

I’ll tell the cats they are in charge even if there are still humans in the house when I leave.

Cat says: I hope she doesn’t come back with that green coat.

It might reassure a dog. A cat probably thinks, “Meh.”

When I leave to go somewhere I tell our dog,"Be right back.) (I hope)

I kiss my kitties goodbye and tell them I’ll be back later, and set up one of them to be Head Cat until I get home. The others are to obey Head Cat.

I used to let my cat know that I would be back. She was part of a bonded pair originally. Early on we had to put her Mom down. She still needed a bond. I became her substitute bond until she passed away. She had relaxed enough that my occasional absences didn’t bother her. She was always happy to have me back home.

We all do, especially to the kitten. “Mama love, mama smooch, mama see you later!” They aren’t fussed, as we always come home before too long, and currently I’m always home.

Mine is “Be good cats, behave, guard the house, don’t fight and don’t tear anything up.” In return, they demand treats when I get back – and get them.

I do. Our old Lab seems to understand when I say “a short while” versus “it will be a while”. I don’t want her to think we’re abandoning her in some way. We have no idea what ‘time’ is like for dogs.

I tell her to look after the house, when I’m gone…

They have you trained.

All the time. And I make sure I get some goodbye kisses from my kitty.

We not only do this, but we leave the TV on “for noise.” We did this for a former dog who reacted to outside noises.

The problem is that we have to change the channel when we go to church on Sunday. The news program we watch switches over to Joel Osteen while we are gone. We don’t want to do that to our dog.

I do and I don’t have Dogs or Cats; I have a Turtle. ;-)

My late Corgi-mix understood a number of phrases. The most used ones were: “I gotta go to work”, “Beer run” and “Insurance Pee?” (meaning bedtime). “Go for Ride” was her favorite.

Of course I do! I even let them know approximately what time I will be home!

Methinks pets are more attuned to external stimuli than the clock on the wall.

I always tell my Dobby and about how long to be gone, she understands precisely what I’m saying. She can count (understand up to 4). That’s how many dirty paws she will have! LOL ;) !

I tell my three dogs. As soon as I walk out the door one of them starts barking…

Of course. I always did to my cat. Not the words, critters don’t speak English, but the tone. Reassurance.

Always and “Be good while I am gone.”

I have a specific dog treat that I give my dog when I leave. I also tell her that I am going out, but she doesn’t understand the concept of language. She does understand food. She gets a different treat when I return. Then, all is well in her world.

I tell my kitty unless he’s asleep. My fish doesn’t care, so I dont bother with him.

When I was newly married, my husband had a dog. She liked me OK, but I always knew when my husband was about half an hour away from home, because she would quit whatever she was doing and sit by the door. He had an irregular schedule, so I don’t know how she knew, but it was very helpful to know when to put dinner on.

As long as you don’t go as far as the vapid, irritating blonde in the hotel commercials, in the way she talks to and coddles her “babies.” (I think she’s a member of the hotel family, but I refuse to shill for them by mentioning the name.)

do you tell that to your pet more then your spouse?

If I am going to be gone longer than usual, I give my dog two treats. I don’t know if she just enjoys the largess or if she has figured it out. She’s not talking.

I sure do with 4 dogs and 4 cats!

If I knew I was going to be late coming home, I’d tell my cat so he wouldn’t worry. If I were somehow detained, I’d try to send a telepathic message to let him know I was OK.
