Looks like the Boys have new suits for the annual gratitude feast. Looking sharp there Lupin and Elvis. Now inquiring minds want to know what Puck will be sporting tomorrow.

    Deep Sigh

With much wailing and crying, protests and begging, Fluff and Tootie went to their new forever home. Okay, so maybe I didn’t beg. Much.

The 3 kittens have all adapted to humans, as kittens are prone to do. The worming is done and the 10 day ointment for conjunctivitis is done. They are healthy and just fine. And now 2 have found a new family. Lataryn and her daughter came over last night to pick them up. Our little country kittens are headed to the big city to live with 2 adult cats, 2 adult humans and one teenage girl who is already in love with the kits.

We are very happy that they are going together. It should ease the seperation anxiety and new home frights. If not for them at least we feel better about it.

Trixie is not at all upset to see them go. Jezzuz H thank the stars those little hellions are gone. Maybe I can get more than a cat nap now. I don’t think Bandit has figured it out, and soon she will have 4 big brothers.

We have opened the solid door and latched the screen door. For the first few days we keep it open duing the day and close the solid door at night. After a few days to allow everyone to sniff and trade business cards, we run with just the screen 24/7.

Trixie is going to be a long project. We gently pull her out into the open several times a day and sit with her, petting and brushing. A small bath towel is still the key. Drape it over her and pick her up with her head covered. She tolerates it, and sometimes even leans in a little before she catches herself.

    (continued)

We are going to keep them in the bathroom for 2 more weeks. No matter what progress we make with Trixie we expect that once free to roam she will vanish into the house and rarely be seen for months, maybe even a year or more. The vet figures she is between 2-3 years old, and we know she was outside for at least a year, probably more. It will take a lot of time and patience to turn her into true house cat. We are also hoping that the spay will calm her down a bit. We shall see.

Elvis and Lupin are doing well. Growing and becoming more and more comfortable with the giant humans. Elvis has been training with Lewis. This involves stampeding up the stairs and dashing into the bathroom before you can get the door closed. At which point the swirl around the outside of the bowl giving advice and commentary on your “efforts”.

We are very curious to see what will happen when they realize mom is on the other side of the screen door. It is unlikely that Trixie will care, shameless hussy that she is. But the boys seemed to know it was her when she and the kits were outside waiting to be captured. A whole new chapter is soon to begin, and I will keep you posted as life proceeds.

" GIVE THANKS" in the table decor. Very nice!

Woman, you do not make the turkey 5 days before the feast! Make the Cranberry sauce, the broth. Maybe tomorrow the dressing, if you do it out of the bird. Space it out and don’t freak out!

How hard can it be. You put the trays in the microwave after venting the turkey, gravy, and stuffing and cutting away the film from the dessert, microwave for a few minutes, peel back the film to stir the mashed potatoes and turkey and gravy, pull the film back over and microwave for a few minutes more. Done.

And that WAS supposed to be a joke folks. I know a proper Thanksgiving feast isn’t some TV turkey dinner you throw in the microwave. It takes a lot more work than that. Speaking of which, going to have to start making the feast today. Part of ours is a cranberry-orange relish that requires a minimum of two days before it’s served to marinate the flavors. And it’s going to be the first time I’ll have made it.

So Megan broke into a trot. Tre-C trotted along right behind her. And Maxie walked a little faster than usual. “Max, compadre, this first time do not look at Megan. If you do, I guarantee you won’t make it through- one of us will have to come back and get you. Watch me. Just relax and focus your thoughts on a doorway.” Maxie pinned his ears back- he looked down the block and saw the concrete wall of a grocery store. But no doors anywhere. Then, suddenly, the big Tom broke stride when he realized Megan was gone. She was nowhere on the street, nowhere on the sidewalk, nowhere at all. “Max.. Maxie! Look at ME! Head down- follow the scent if you need to, but turn… left… NOW!”

Kitten update! On Tuesday the vet did a follow up check and the ulcer was healed so I was given new drops that were a combo antibiotic and steroids to help with the inflamation that might have been causing the clouding in kitten’s eye. I’m very pleased to say that as of today the cloudiness has almost completely receded!!! Huzzah, RELIEF and Gratitude!

The sniffles continue to be less frequent and she is growing like crazy having gained 3 ounces last week (3lb 3 oz to 3 lb 6 oz). She is beautiful, smart, funny and very affectionate and is currently curled on my chest, tucked under my chin purring away as she watches me type. As long as I don’t use the cursor my screen is safe…:^D Update on her integration to the house under Andy’s kitty update. I wanted his opinion on how I was handling things!

    Thanks all!

I see that woman is basting her turkey. Several years ago I started brining the turkey. I cheat somewhat as I get the mix at a national chain. The mix is an apple/spice one. Prep it two days before, then finish it on Wednesday by using apple cider and water. I refer to it as the Ronco turkey. I set it and forget it. Well, not exactly forget it as I do rotate it every 30 minutes. Have to tent it with about 90 minutes left as the acid from the citrus tends to quickly crisp up the skin (love crispy skin!) Add turkey stock to the drippings? Wonderful gravy!

Off topic. A Facebook plea from Georgia: "Toward the end of the year/beginning of a new year, newspapers sometimes change up their comics page. If you love having us in your newspaper, this is a great time to reach out to your local newspaper editor and thank them! Likewise, if you would like to see us in your local newspaper, it’s a great time to let them know!

We’ve said this a lot here, that newspaper editors tend to only hear from their readers when they’re angry or for negative reasons. We have an opportunity to send them hellos and thanks for bringing us our comics! Please let your newspaper know you enjoy reading ‘Breaking Cat News’ in their funny pages, it could do a lot to keep us there or get us there! Readers around the country have put us in their newspapers, and I am so, so grateful to each and every one of you!!! ❤️"

To all orbsters living or with loved ones in the devastated areas of California; ♥

Love, prayers, and positive energies going to all!For those who have lost dear ones, sympathy, empathy and hopes of comfort.

For those who cannot find loved ones, wished and prayers for reunions. May they be safe & whole!

For all who have lost homes, businesses, savings, hope. May you find the resources you need to begin again.

Words cannot describe how sad I feel about this tragedy and the disasters our country and friends’ countries endured this year. So very many have suffered.

Anyone noticing scam jobbers taking advantage of these folks — please report them to your state attorney general or other scam busting authorities!Keep an eye on sufferers that no one increases their burdens. Give what you can to accredited charities. Best way to ensure the assistance goes where needed.

And loving hugs from the heart!!! >^.,.^<

Ah, the kids table. Even as adults, if we as an extended family all went out to eat, the aunts and uncles sat at one table, and the cousins sat at another. Of course, the last time we did that BC (before children) was after my grandfather’s funeral.

Also, to those who have asked how to help Ron and Gloria, first of all, thank you. Second, I have to figure out how any assistance might be routed to them and am open to suggestions. The main needs Ron mentioned when I talked to him over the weekend are housing – which obviously is something that will be going through insurance – and clothes. He was, on Sunday, still wearing the clothes he had on his back on Friday.

Feelings seem to run high on cranberry sauce. I didn’t used to like it much, but my parents always had the canned stuff. Now that I make whole berry cranberry sauce with ground-up whole oranges to add a little zest, I like it. I attend a friends’ annual pot luck dinner, which we’ve had since about 1978 or so. Core group about 20. It isn’t pot luck, really, since everyone brings their expected dish MaryJo brings her corn relish, Mike, his scalloped potatoes, Andie HER version of cranberry sauce, and I bring MY version. Bob, at whose house we eat, cooks the turkey, Andie also makes the gravy. TRADITION!

I’m happy enough with the canned whole-berry cranberry sauce, but only as a component of a good turkey and dressing sandwich (yeah, so many carbs but it only happens once a year). Some will find this an odd combination, but I also like pb&j on rye bread, among other strange mixtures. Never cared much for the jello type cranberry sauce, but if you soak the modern can in hot water for a few minutes you can usually get it out in a whole loaf.
