My mom tells me that when I was about two years old, I would scribble on the wall and then blame it on our dog. “Jenny did that,” indeed, LOL. Whatever would we do without moms? :D

Been enjoying some movies. Figured I would share a song from one of them.

    “This road leads to Rainbowville

    Going My Way

Up ahead is Blue Bird Hill

    Going My Way

Just pack a basket full of wishes

    And off you start

With Sunday morning in your heart

Round the bend you’ll see a sign

    “Dreamers Highway”

    Happiness is down the line

    Going My Way

    The smiles you’ll gather

    Will look well on you

Oh, I hope you’re Going My Way too"

    Meanwhile, Back on the Nile

Queen Catshepsut the Golden: In honor of the recent un-crime wave, I would like to declare this year’s Feast of Giving Day as Do Someone a Solid Day.

Thomios: But I was going to make soup to give to everyone.

The Queen: That’s quite alright. A solid can be a liquid in this case.

Puckmosis: What sort things should we do?

The Queen: Anything. As long as it helps someone.

Beatrixia: Puck, we were talking about finding found objects for Sophititi to create her works of art.

Puckmosis: Right. Let’s get on it after this meeting.

Burt-Ra: I have some things to take to the Cosmos Garden. Everyone give me a list of what they want me to bring back.

The Queen: Are you taking Avenger or Vann.

Burt-Ra: I’ll take Kara and Vann. It’s Hump Day, and they said they’d like to take a trip. Besides, Avenger said he and Emma have announcement to make.

The Queen: I’m sure we will all be excited to hear their news.

Have yourself a lovely painted canvass

    Let your smile be bright

    From now on

Your worries will be out of sight

Be yourself, sweet, caring little artist

    The Nana made your day

    From now on

Puck’s troubles will be miles away

Now we hear of the olden days

    Wall mouse-painting days of yore

Tales from the Nana who is dear to us

Dries our tears for us once more

Through the years we all will paint together

    If the landlord allows

Thank the precious Nana, she’s the cat’s meow

And have yourself a merry little Catmas now

(Blane Ralph / Martin Hugh – Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas)

Grandpa’s very good at this also! My dad told me to go look in a mirror one time when I was getting frustrated with something my daughter was doing. Then told me not to act surprised because acts just like I did at that age.

How many here are accustomed to use the word “Nana” for grandmother (or were when they were children)?

Just curious. I always called my grandmother “Grandma”, or “Granma” before I learned to enunciate. Never heard the term “nana” until I was older. But it seems to be extremely common. Is it a regional thing, or was it?

Here’s the real story from Georgia’s Facebook (I posted this yesterday but very late) As we all suspected, this is based on a true story from a few years ago. Here’s what Georgia wrote: "Folks have asked all week if this BCN storyline happened in real life. Yes, it did! And today’s the day, four years ago. In real life, I kept my acrylic paints in a drawer next to our bed. I stored them fast in a move, and as I don’t use them as often as my watercolors, they were forgotten until the Boy discovered them during nap time. A few days before Christmas, and being only three years old, he decided to try and make a rainbow as a surprise… At the time, my face was very much as it was yesterday—but when he explained his intentions in a crumpling voice “I tried to make a rainbow… it was hard”, it just was the saddest, sweetest thing. It was a tough week that year of many little accidents, spills, and misunderstandings of the age. During one the next day, is when he fretfully cried out, “Santee is no coming, eh he” (And here I’ll stop explaining, so you can see the rest of the story play out this week…)Here are some photos of how we lived around it for a time, one of the Girl from back then, and one from two years ago sharing his quote. The photo of him standing proudly beside it is from the day we moved out of our apartment, when it had become a treasured piece of art (we actually loved his color choices). We had a terrific property manager and handy man at that place who were each parents too and both incredibly understanding. When we fessed up and asked what color paint we could buy to repair the wall, they told us not to worry about it, that they had needed to repaint the walls anyway. So, so nice of them!

I remember going to the Louisa May Alcott house with my kids, and being amazed that the Alcotts let May Alcott (basis for Amy in Little Women) draw and paint all over the walls. And she grew up to be a successful artist, even beating out Mary Cassatt for a spot in the Paris salon! She trained the man who sculpted the Lincoln Memorial. If she hadn’t died so young, I think we would be talking about the Alcott sisters…not just Louisa. So there is a long and distinguished history of painting on walls! Go for it! (And yes, the attic in our house is well muraled!)

    Today is:

Festivus: For all the Scrooges who don’t like the other holidays this time of year. When I actually bothered (today) to find out about this “holiday,” I was taken aback. While I approve of the anti-commercialism and anti-franticness of the idea, I think they threw the baby out with the bathwater. That’s about what I’d expect from Seinfeld. They’d have done better to celebrate:

Saturnalia: The ancient Roman celebration of the Winter Solstice, which ran from December 17 through the 23rd, and sounds very similar to modern celebrations. Two of its characteristics were role reversal and a general flouting of the rules and norms of society. This holiday I propose Lupin for the King of Saturnalia (Lord of Chaos), as he is perfect for the role.

HumanLight: Celebrating ethics, tolerance, critical reason, and science. The world is and will be what we make it.

National Pfeffernüsse Day: “Pepper Nuts Day,” and they make good sling ammunition—you can always claim you were trying to give them a cookie. Tossing these cookies could get you arrested for assault or vandalism. I used to crack hazelnut shells in my teeth, and pfeffernüsse are too hard for me. They are true geologic cookies. Supposedly they get softer as they age. Like what, a geologic epoch later?

Apologies to burke129529. I could not find a reference to Geezers Day. However, being one myself, I hereby “officially” recognize, acknowledge, and proclaim that today is, indeed, Geezers Day! Io! Saturnalia! and hail to Saturn, the ancient God of Old Age!
