A couple years ago we had canine distemper go through our local raccoons, killing almost all the babies. One of the survivors lost his mom as well as his siblings, and started following around a juvenile opossum! Opossums are immune to distemper. The possum seemed to mostly ignore him but not mind him too much at first, then eventually seemed to actually like him. Now they are constant companions. Possums only live a couple of years so their relationship probably won’t last too much longer, but I’m amazed they are still together!
Beatrixia: I suggest we head to the scroll room as soon as Ora Z gets back.
Ora Z: Here I am!
Bea: Good. Now let’s all go to the scroll room and explore.
Ora Z: Are we going to shred the scrolls?
Bea: No.
Ora Z: Can we eat the scrolls?
Bea: No, just read them.
Ora Z: Alright.
At the Scroll Room
Violet-Ifa: Here we are at the real treasure room
Bea: Interesting. The are mostly in the 640s.
Iggy: That’s cooking and hospitality. Our ships cook had a collection of scrolls like that.
Bea: Some of these are classics, Mastering the Art of Nile Cooking by Julia Kitten, On the Subject of Cuisine from Ancient Rome. We’ll have to show Thomios and Floofnet.
Sneak Peek: Check Georgia’s Patreon account. On July 17, she posted the Aug 1 strip. Now we have to interpolate about July 31. She has also indicated that the raccoon kits are still with Baba Mouse at least into the second week of August. I’m not trying to shill here (well, yes, I am). Her Patreon memberships start at $1 per month, and I’d like to encourage Orbsters to join at that level, and higher if you can.
At my old house in Portland (Oregon), we had opossum vs raccoon wars for years. Some years, possums ruled the big cedar tree in the neighbors yard. Other years the raccoons would win.
Sometimes, like Goldie, one has to carry oneself claws first.
OFF TOPIC:....Loki went to his forever home yesterday. The friend who is adopting the little Marshmallow is coming down today and taking her home on Monday. Not sure when Hagrid will be leaving for his forever home.
Ha! I used to have a cat who carried himself “claws first.” He was a real mischievous character, kind of a very loving “tough guy,” if that makes sense. Nothing really phased him. Loud fireworks? Meh. Dogs walking down the street? Bring ’em on. I loved that cat.
My possums and raccoons live harmoniously during the mulberry fruit season. All the animals including predators like foxes will chomp on the fallen berries in peace, together. This year’s crop was ruined by a late frost so I’ve not seen many of the animals beyond a buck who is obsessed with the berries and ever hopeful.

Now I’ve got to go back and read that bit.

Looks like the opossums are next up. But last week we were left hanging with Jules, Homestyle and Thimblefist. When and where will they fit in?

All I know about opossum lands is that the inhabitants grab their chests, quote Shakespeare, and fall over "dead"* when you approach.
*No, kittens. Not really dead. Just a Stanislavski’s Method, over-the-top performance of “dead.”
