I was thinking this was one of the last strips, but this is dated 4/19/1990 and the strip ended in December 1995. So we have five more years before it ends.

The historian in Calvin comes out.

I know Dad wanted to get to bed as soon as he could but it was low key sweet of him to tell Calvin and Hobbes they will have plenty of adventures together.

Dad learned this trick from Sheherazade.

Now that’s how you tell a story!

One wonders if this opus would be — or would have been — a good choice for Calvin & Hobbes’ final cartoon when Watterson drew the curtains on the strip.

Been reading this cartoon for 5 years and never saw this one before.

Secretly, Dad breathed a silent sigh of relief when Calvin made that request.

I wish I could hear a heart-warming bedtime story like that every night… it would stop those recurring covid-19 and lockdown nightmares.

First time I ever saw Calvin happy at bed time. Good job Dad.

What about Hobbes’ breakfast? Calvin is slipping.

While I love Watterson’s actual last strip, this would have made a perfect choice to be the last one.
