You got that right, Bernice, that Mrs. DeGroot isn’t up to speed… just like you were (before the New York thing).

I love how Berniece is trying to play it cool after the fact.

-But Luann did talk to her mother about the possible trip to New York with Quill. So the surprise on Nancy’s face isn’t because of a trip to New York. It’s because Nancy didn’t expect to see either a Luann who wasn’t in tears, or Luann and Prudence acting like friends…

What would be the fun of going with Pru, someone who has had the experience of living in New York? It would be a lot more interesting to see Luann and Bernice bumbling around over there!

Not too many of you have been parents here I guess, particularly of daughters. They are full of surprises,so you roll with the punches, which is what Nancy is doing.

Well, at least we have now introduced Pru to the standard “sit on the floor and lean against the bed” method of havinggirl talk in the Luanniverse.

Quill may not yet be completely out of the strip. He is still roommate with Gunther, Quill may have left The Fuse, but not Mrs. Berger’s house. Possibly, we will see an arc between Quill and Gunther, with Quill packing to leave?

Strange asking it now, but wasn’t it strange Luann didn’t contact Nancy about the breakup after she texted Bernice? I would think Bernice lives further away than where The Fuse is.
kroberts123 over 8 years ago
Hmmm. Quill’s show folds, and he ends up stalking Luann and Bernice in NYC. Delta comes to NYC with a group of students to protest a Trump event, gets roughed up by KKK, tossed out, and rescued by L & B. Pru hooks them up with friends, who think L & B are a couple. L & B have a grand time sans guys, but get horribly mugged on their last evening.

I am loving this, so glad Luann is not a mess over the breakup and is handling it like a mature woman. Sure, she’ll have some sad times and regrets, but she realized the relationship wasn’t going anywhere with Quill’s emphasis on his acting career. About the only thing that isn’t realistic here is Quill’s sudden rise to leading roles in touring shows. Not really enough dues paid in the real world of Broadway.

It’s safer for them to sit on the floor. That way, when they finish those triple Long Island Iced Teas they are celebrating with, they won’t have so far to fall after they pass out before they hit the floor.
I can attest to this from personal experience. Back in 1995, I visited NOLA (pre Katrina) for the Microsoft “Tech Ed” conference. I checked into the Hilton, right on the Boardwalk. Hit the outdoor Boardwalk to check it out. Temps at the end of March were in the mid 80’s. I was burning up and offering Gunth some serious “hyperhydrosis” competition So I see a stand that looks like they’re selling “slushies!” “SLUSHIES,” I thought… “COOL! Flavors,,,, Hnnnnn…. Uhhhh OK, I’ll have an Ice Tea Slushy!”
“Long Island Ice Tea……”
Within an hour, I realized what I had done. Of course, I was unaware of the prevalence of “Frozen Daiquiri” bars all over the city.
I learned my lesson that day… thankfully, with no ill effects as the conference didn’t really start until the next day. But I was lucky to make it to dinner that night.

What a mundane ending to what could have been drama. Mrs. D in an accident and the first responders Brad and Toni.

What’s not realistic is that no woman is like that after a breakup whether she instigated it or not. I suspect that will come later after the NYC trip excitement.

-Glad Bernice caught her up before Nancy blurted her misconceptions
You and I must have different versions of this ’toon. The one on my screen shows Luann telling her mother that she and Bernice are going to New York, and Prudence explaining that they will be going with the tickets that Luann bought for Quill. The only thing I see Bernice doing is a modified snark at Luann for not catching her mother up…

8Very nice and funny. I especially like Bernice being all cool, calm and collected acting, when just a little while ago, she was in the same position as Luann’s mom. Thoughts I have been pondering:1. Is Quill REALLY gone, or will he return and Luann and he will reunite? At this point, all signs seem far more positive that Quill may really be gone! That suggests that there will be a lot of opportunity for Luann to have many, many fun story arcs!2. Although it is VERY realistic…. Luann saying "goin’ " instead of going is one of the behaviors some people use in speech that are wholly cringe inducing in me. I am not sure why the dropping of the “g” affects me so, but it always has. Long, long ago while my wife and I were dating, she used to have the habit of dropping her “g” sounds at the end of words. Even though I tried to NOT react, after we dated a while, she could tell that I was cringing internally when she dropped a “g”. She, very kindly worked to stop that habit, even though I never asked her to.

Bernice is rather smug considering the fact that she:1. Had the exact same reaction as Nancy, and2. Actually heard about the breakup straight from Luann, meaning she (unlike Nancy) had the perfect chance to get the full story before jumping to conclusions.
So yeah, Bernice sucks.

Time to switch gears, Nancy (or should I say “Mrs. D”?). Instead of going bug-eyed with worry over Luann’s break-up with Quill, worry about her and Bernice alone in New York City, or, as you probably will think of it, Sin City!(I recall the time I had to shepherd my college debate team around NYC during a tournament there; we were from further down the coast, and I as a senior and president of the debating society was the one in charge and responsible….)
SukieCrandall Premium Member over 8 years ago
I think that people’s varied perceptions of Luann’s degrees of maturation reflect much more of what those individuals have as weighted values than providing an accurate assessment.
There are a great many ways in which people mature and it is not one steady progression. People mature in different ways, at different rates, and in fits and starts. That happens with us all.
So, there are ways that each of the youths depicted is more mature than others but also ways in which they are less mature.
Claiming that one is more mature than another simply bevause that individual has matured in a way a given poster values highly in his or her own life is an unfair statement, since in each case so far the reverse coukd just as accurately be claimed simply by weighting the areas of maturation differently, and that woukd be no more wrong or right because it, too, would reflect nothing more than a poster’s personal preference.
Hense, the observation that such statements say more about what the poster personally values than anything else.
