I hate to say it, but the evansi have been coming up short for weeks. Last fall and winter were far more interesting, from the breakup through the New York trip. The more recent ordeal between Gunther and Bernice was a farce, but turned out with possibilities when she mailed him an apology. Since then, things have deteriorated to Mutt ‘N Jeff humor. I sure hope more interesting developments are around the corner.-I don’t think Bernice is a good act partner for Luann. It occurred to me some time back that Luann and Pru might put together some kind of comedy act that would be a hit.

Happy 4th of July, my American friends! (It’s just past midnight ;o)Tonight, I went on a little pilgrimage to sit along 0 Avenue, to watch some fireworks across the border. I am always awe-struck by the incredible dedication you have to burning through huge amounts of incendiaries on the 4th.We here in Canada cannot hold a [roman] candle to your evening of festivities when we celebrate Canada Day, mostly due to our parental governments who don’t believe we are mature enough to play with matches. Private firework displays are banned in most populated areas. I live in a town of about 130,000 and all we get is a modest 20 minute display, put on by the municipality. The thing that really amazes me is the sheer volume you guys set off. From my vantage point, the closest town is only about 12,000 strong; the rest is farms and tiny hamlets. Despite this, I can see at least 30-40 major firework displays going on…and they last for up to an hour! So, let’s see…one tiny section of one tiny, sparsely populated corner of one border state (let’s pretend I can see as much as 1% of it), times 100, times 50 states- and I can’t even see a major city from here- man, the fireworks of one night must drive your whole economy for a year!Enviously,Blune

I remember that LuAnn can sing….and quite well. Why does she need Bernice and resort to this silly routine? Also, when are Brad and Toni going to get married? That story line has disappeared.

Is the strip basically taking the summer off? If not, then it’s July 5, so the holiday’s over. Wrap this nonsense up now, and start the Luann-cares-for-kids-at-day-camp story.

I agree this is maybe Jr high level talent and young women wouldn’t be doing this. Luann can sing and has experience performing so why is she messing with this?

So Lu, Your ‘Act’ is Bernice pretending to be a large Maitre D looking guy that in Panel 3, appears to be wearing a VERY Large Sombrero. Yep. THAT will get the Audience reaching for Their Car Keys and Heading for the Door, No Time.

HEY ! Do You Know Who WOULD find This Funny? STAR HEAD! Take a Pic Lu, and Send it to Him! He’s gonna LAUGH His Pixels off when Old Bern here, FINALLY works up enough Nerve to ask Him out on a Date, and He REMEMBERS This Scene……,

Is this “talent show” for the kids at the day camp? Luann’s “act” seems aimed at that age group. This is not how college students should spend their summer break.

    > Greg Evans better step it up before I replace Luann with Calvin and Hobbs.>I really don’t see how that would be a “replacement”. C&H is (was) pretty much in a league of its own, in terms of quality. The re-runs will continue to be read in one form or another, long after the other strips on the funny pages have been cancelled and forgotten.

4Today’s offering of a “chin puppet” routine is funny and cute in a one day’s offering of the comic…. but I do not think it is a sustainable story for Bernice and Luann to use as their Talent Show entry.I feel that the supine nature of how Bernice would have to be (and perhaps Luann too if she adopted a “chin puppet” persona as well) would be too difficult and uncomfortable to plan to the stage on The Fuse. Imagine one or both of them having to lay on their backs… presumably on a platform of some sort, for their act to work… to me this makes this type of act too unwieldly for them to actually choose. I say… back to the drawing boards…. Luann (and Bernice)…. find another type of act.

Do we in fact know for certain that Bernice doesn’t have a job this summer? After all, we have been told that Luann does have a job, but we haven’t seen her do it yet. (And it’s high time we did, instead of spending another week on this talent show nothingness.) Maybe when Luann starts working at the day care, Bern will get a job in a store or something.

The set-up for this proposed act is too unwieldy. Besides, after the initial smile at the chin-puppet, it’s not funny. It’s not really an act, just an overblown concept. No producer should or would buy it….

I think the “talent” Bernice and Luann settle on is just a McGuffin , serving it’s purpose in getting them to The Fuse that day.

Obviously, I’m out of step with the Peanut Gallery, but I just can’t get into this grade school level humor. The Senior Prom was an adventure – the trip to Peru was an adventure – the trip to NY could have been an adventure, but it got aborted. These young ladies should be getting dressed up, looking hot, and hitting the Summer concert circuit…….not dreaming up a puppet show. Sadly, this strip has become like our economy……………fewer full time characters, and a lot of temporary help.
