Piro is no longer upset by Bernice’s revelation. That suggests that he was only trying to protect her, as ridiculous as his ploy was. (I don’t think that chivalry or gallantry requires that kind of disproportionate sacrifice.)

But now it seems they’re both home free, and off into the sunset together.

Okay…. Why would ANYBODY who lives at that dorm smash the machine and steal the “snax” when they must have known there was video surveillance on it?? That’s crazy! They would at least wear a mask so the guard wouldn’t know they’re “in room 213”. It’s looking like Piro might have some interest in Bernice after all… guess we’ll see where it goes. The dorm’s R. A. (Resident Advisor?) doesn’t seem to know or care who is in Room 213. And she’s also forgotten how she handled her first curfew violation with THE SAME GUY. Or maybe the Evanses have quietly dropped that whole episode down the memory hole.

In giving it some thought, I tried to think about who it might be in room 213. It almost has to be someone we know. Who would be unsavory enough to do a deed like that? We know the chances of it being Les is near zero. Ann Eiffel is totally out of the question. Dirk? Nah. Who could it be? Could it be SATANNNN? No, Greg usually stays away from the theological side of things. I don’t think it would be Sun. She would have sent her ferret up into the vending machine to get all of the goods, but that would have obviated the need to break the glass. Lessee here. Who is kind of gritty and was known for leaving off little bags of stuff in Bern’s room? I am guessing that it could be Viper. I could be wrong, but I just have a feeling…

Most colleges don’t have curfews. Unless they are Christian colleges, and then men are never allowed anywhere near the buildings where women live. This isn’t 1960 and the system of laws known as “in loco parentis” whereby colleges act on behalf of parents, were dismantled in the 1970s. College students are allowed to act as if they are adults and can have visitors stay in their rooms overnight within reason for whatever purpose they desire.

Piro has just gained new respect for Bern, and I predict will now ask her out… except he has some deep dark secret that will complicate matters.

Seismic, where are you?? We need your skepticism here. I hope you are okay. I probably won’t agree with anything you say, but your non-troll perspective in this arc would be so much fun. I say please come back.

Room 213, eh? Does that mean the campus cop, who seems not as dumb as traditional student opinion would have it, recognizes the perp on surveillance tape as the resident of that room; or is the tape showing the hallway outside room 213, where the perp is trying to break in (admittedly a bit of a stretch, but I am just fishing for alternate ways of interpreting the cop’s remark)?

Meanwhile, Piro seems to be softening towards Bee, so she had better hook that arm and reel him in!

The Security Guard is familiar with the suspect and knows the room number immediately. That is kind of odd, unless he knows the room numbers of all the residents.

Would someone like to explain to me even the purpose of having an RA? No rules are enforced unless it benefits Bernice. Even then she can ignore the rules, abuse her power, and not have a single thing happen to her.

Who will be in Room 213? I too am of the mindset that this will be someone we know and recognize. I have no idea who it will be however, but suspect it will be a character with a very small role thus far.

I am very glad to see Piro glad to be “escorted” by Bernice. To me, it reads like he has a real, sincere, fondness for Bernice. At least as a friend, but very possibly he could also see her as a potential girlfriend.

At the least Piro is showing good manners and a dry sense of humor. I suspect that not many young men today would think of “escort” this way. Hmmm… his gesture could support the military background theory… or at least, a good upbringing. (Yes, showing my age here)

OMG…. Rm 213…. is it a new person? could it be Hair? who has tools (or things) that could be used to smash the glass?

Prediction: Bernice will forget to bring keys. She will let door close behind her and Piro. Then we will finally see where he stays when not camping out in someones room. Oh and we will wait forever to see who is in room 213.

Well, it looks like once again the fates intervene to ensure Bernice gets off scot-free yet again. It’s like she’s contractually prohibited from being held accountable to anyone but herself and her own flaky morality (after all, saying “oh, this is wrong” in hindsight isn’t very useful if it doesn’t prevent you from doing more wrong actions in the future.) I hate being right about that stuff all the time.

Though it looks like I was dead wrong about Piro having no interest in Bernice; the last panel officially puts that theory to rest. I’m interested to see if that leads anywhere. Don’t screw this up, Bernice!

I think Tiffany knows what happened by the way she was acting last week. AND I think Piro is a classy guy.

We know it’s not Tiffany (Ground floor).There’s no evidence that Hair or any of those folks might be in. Sun is probably not considered.There’s no indication that Les is a student here, much less anywhere.Obviously not Bernice or Dez.Gunther is NOT a Dorm resident. (Still living at home, I gather)Jack (Jock) is unlikely, and the other art student (Goth? Emo? NFI!) is questionable at best.Not Quill (living at Gunther’s mom’s place)So, we can eliminate all of those. Probably won’t even see the perp’s face.

It must be very late by now. So will Bernice escort Piro back to her room instead ….. since none of these infractions seem to matter… on a relative scale, at least?

In the next set of frames we see Tiffany looking on in disbelief as Piro and Bernice walk arm-in-arm down the hall.

Whoever the thief is, I can understand the need. Those dormitory rooms are so big, a student might need an extra TV or a cabinet full of snacks just for decoration.

So let’s not get silly here you two. Piro can write Bernice up. Then she can write him. Can get pretty hot and heavy with that kind of thing escalating.

I guess i should try to make time to check into it again and see what it is like, and how well i can see the needed sections. With the last nine months including a friend’s unexpected death, two human family members’ illnesses deaths, two pets’ sicknesses and deaths, and now another pet terminal and on chemo designed to give quality of life for as long as posdible i have not even taken the time to look. Priorities, right?

As far as the strip goes i am wondering if Bern may give Piro a shy peck and him answer it with a cinematically dramatic kiss given his trying to be her hero recently, and his love of silent movies which were so often visually overacted. Then again, Bernie was not shy herself when defending Piro. Wouldn’t it be fun to see her swoop him into a back bowing kiss, instead of the other way around?

Also, i wonder who is in 213 since Tiff is in 200 and Bern and Dez in 201.

Finally, not having had time to see many comments i wonder if any of the people who previous viciously attacked Piro had the good form and maturity to admit they were wrong (and the joyful ability to be happily surprised by the unexpected plot twist), ditto people who always see Bern as unrelentingly self-centered, but i do not have time to check. (She has often been self-sabotaging but no more self-centered than most in her circumstances.)

Hot damn, now Bernice is in the escort business!

So assuming that Bernice and Piro become an item, does that leave the way clear for Gunther and Tiffany?

The ‘thief to apprehend’ might be someone we will never know. The cop’s statement could just be a way to make closure on the question of whether Piro is to blame… which he is not…

In the dark ages when I was in college, when dinosaurs roamed the dorm halls, a male had to be escorted by a female in the females’ wings of the dorm, and vice versa. Now, at least at my old college, I don’t think that’s the case. But it could still be possible, depending on the rules where you happen to be living.
