They provably have to make extra room for her, so Zebo will have her sit front and center. Nice and close to the model.

Now what if it is a male model and that chair is only for resting one foot on it.

Hmm, Nil doesn’t seem quite as dark in this episode.

Luann looks nervous.

Zebo asks her if it would help if the model was not completely nude.

Knute comes out wearing a Mickey Mouse hat—and nothing else.

I just notice want EricB said above, and I have to agree, Nil seems actually kind of normal, even friendly. Is it because Jack isn’t around, or is Jack in the class, or does that make any difference? I think he really likes art, and these classes must be something he really is himself growing in. Once Lu finally can gin up the nerve to go in the art classroom (?) itself, how far will “nude” bodies be depicted? In shadow, or carefully positioned? It’s only Tuesday. I hope Tara pops in though.

He’s bald and Nil calls him Professor Z. Do I sense an X-Men parody coming up? Maybe they are actually the Z-men, gifted with the mutant powers to render nude drawing and not get embarrassed by either the nude model or by Professor Z’s sense of “art.”

If the model isn’t Tara, I would think Luann could deal with being in the room. Not that Luann couldn’t look at Tara in a nude state – but drawing her friend nude might still seem weird.

Luann – If they close the door during the drawing session, you will only be drawing the knob. Of the door…

Have I missed something or is Luann’s inability to confront the human form is the predictable result of eliminating gym classes in high school?

Oh COME ON LUANN!!!!!! After 30 years of being a teenager …… you are NOT an underage teenager ANYMORE, you are NOW an actual young woman!!!!! And now it is time to take the second step to adult hood. At this rate, you will never be a true artist (if that’s actually your main major) if you don’t learn the true art behind figure drawing!!!! You don’t realize nudity helps improve anatomy 20 times better!!!!! Nudity is practically the original forms of art!!!

So is the model a woman or a man i would say by Luann open mouth it’s a man.

Quite a pose Luann’s striking in the final panel. In fact, I would call it physically impossible.

Has our heroine really become so uptight and buttoned up that she makes Bernice look like Wild Thing? Or is she waiting to be sweet-talked into the class and out of her clothes?

Just think of it as a lingerie party, without the lingerie!

Damn! Rocknaww just beat me to the punch! I, too, was going to say, “Quill will be the model”. Let’s see tomorrow or by Saturday….I hope.

Meet Luann Borenice DeGroot. She forgets they will probably close the door. Man oh man.

I would have thought that old Zebo would have no interest in realism, or any painting that required pure technical skill.

Exactly, what will she focus on? Nil did the Elbow… Will she focus on ONE PART or what’s in its entirety?

Yeah, it’s a comic. It’s still “G” or “PG” rated. She’ll draw a thong over any strategically sensitive areas.

Luann’s a lefty? Never noticed before.

Interesting artist stations. No stools and easels? You learn something every day.

I’m going to go against the stream here (apparently) and allow Luann to possess a reasonable degree of modesty, especially when confronted with this new social situation. And, confronting nudity in a group situation is obviously new for Luann. She just hasn’t resolved in her own mind what her reaction will be and how she will appear to others in the class. I’m sure all her classmates will “check out the new guy” to see how her first session reaction compared to their own.

I’m going out on another limb here and predict G&K will surprise and delight us with the way this arc will play out.

The model’s not Zebo… is it?

With his ego and the knowledge that Luann will be there, I say Jack will be the model doing his best Mr. Atlas posing.

My 1st guess was that the model would be Luann. Or Z or Nil are going to ask Luann to be the Model.

I really like how Nil acted kindly and responsibly here today. Not only did he invite Luann to the human form drawing class because he thought she would find it useful and do well…. he also worked through the process to get Professor Zebo’s “ok” for Luann to attend.

I know in the past there was disappointment and some negative feelings towards Nil in regards to his lack of emotional response to Luann’s foot being hurt from the bowling ball that Jack dropped. However, I now even more firmly believe that the “lack of response” was simply an artifact…. a) perhaps Greg did not think to include a response from Nil on that comic, or b) perhaps Greg assumed we would “presume/know” Nil would show concern and left it to be off-panel.

From today’s work by Greg, I feel more confident than ever that Nil’s character is a good one. And, I am very glad that Greg has him being a part of the PCC crew. Nil, Jack, Dez, and Tara have all be great additions to the comic, IMO.

The interesting thing for me to ponder today, though, is why is Luann so reticent about going and observing nudes in a college art class ? I could definitely see her reticence about this if being dragged to a strip club or some other similar venue. But… in an art class I think she would be able to be more willing. So:

1) Is she truly nervous about this or is this some sort of “show” ? (I tend to think it is real nervousness.)

2) Will we learn of some defined “reason” for her nervousness? (I suspect no, because I think there will be another outcome.)

3) Will Professor Zebo help guide Luann into an appreciation of the human form as art ? (I suspect no… but he will very possibly “pontificate” about such notions in some very funny ways.)

4) Will Greg have created this arc and Luann’s reticence specifically to have a big “surprise” ending in terms of the nude “model”? (I am leaning towards this being the thing that ties it all together. )

If I am right and the nude model is the “big reveal” (pun intended)….. who may it be?

Professor Zebo (1 out of 10 probability, IMO).

Jack (7 out of 10 probability, IMO)

Quill ( gag 4 out of 10 probability, IMO)

Pru (2 out of 10 probability, IMO)

Gunther (O out of 10 probability, IMO)

Tara (4 out of 10 probability, IMO (unless, perhaps she has a unique tattoo or something surprising that will really startle Luann))

There are lots of other possibilities of course…. but those are the ones that came to me first.

Why so prudish???

so… off on a new story line. So whats up with the ending w/ Tiff, her Dad, & Ann Eiffel? Whats with the quick run out of the Gunther/Leslie guest house build? And the last Brad & family line that never closed? Greg Evans is as loopy as Luann it seems!

I once went to a bachelor party that had strippers. When they arrived, they said they needed a private room to change in. I said “Wait… what?”

As a model, I can say that Greg has depicted the art classroom quite accurately. Prior experience?

Maybe, in an attempt to stay current, and with Zebo having contacts that would rival Mr. Gray’s, I think his old pal, Stormy Daniels might sit in for old time’s sake.

Whomever it is, if male, hopefully he won’t suffer the indignity of coming straight from a cold shower beforehand. ( I’d cue G. Costanza, but I hated the character too much.)

By losing her nerve and claiming an absurd intent to draw nude models without seeing them properly, Luann is wasting her time, Nil’s time and Zebo’s time.

I wonder what country the ridiculous Mr. Zebo is supposed to be from.

I was surprised that when Jock Jack idiotically copied his artwork (I forgot what kind) on a copier, the Evanses didn’t mine the comic possibilities of displaying Mr. Zebo’s reaction. Or did they?

Or a hot shower into an air conditioned rooms.

Who knew Luann was so afraid of the human body?

Oh, so she’s going to sit out in the hallway with the door open and let the model be exposed to everyone who happens to be walking past, just because she’s too immature to be within a few meters of a naked person for a class she chose to attend? She’s either incredibly stupid or incredibly self-centered. Or both. The school might have some problems recruiting models in the future once it gets out that they were willing to compromise on a nude model’s comfort/security like this, all for the sake of a single prude who isn’t even registered for the damn class. Seriously Luann, that’s a pretty terrible thing to do to the model.

Karen Evans must have some severe issues with sexuality and the human body, because Luann wasn’t nearly this repressed in high school. It’s like the character is maturing in reverse like Benjamin Button.

looks like the class hasn’t started yet because the model’s chair is empty. So I’m not sure what Luann is seeing in order to draw. She’s just being nervous. Hopefully this will pass. The other students (shadows) are just working on existing projects. I’m liking Nil more and more. He saw Luann for her artistic capability (as opposed to her physical self) and he has displayed a lot of EQ (EI?) in the past. It would be nice to see a friendship develop between Luann and Nil, one based on shared interests. I’ve noticed that Greg likes to make friends out of people who are opposite in character (so they feed off each other), e.g. Luann and Tara, Luann and Bernice, Nil and Jack, Bernice and Dez, Tiffany and Gunther.

I truly hope that the model is not someone Luann knows, so she can concentrate on drawing instead of reacting emotionally. But Greg throws curve balls making the arc about relationships instead of people developing their skills and talents.

I guess I haven’t been reading this ‘toon long enough to know why Luann seems to have such difficulties with the idea of looking at a nude model. I find many of the hateful comments about her ’selfishness’ to be equally puzzling. My hope is that the model is not anyone who is a character in the ’toon, and all we get to see is Luann struggling with her own secret demons as she tries to concentrate on drawing the form and not being embarassed by the person. And I truly appreciate the way Nil has been evolving and hope he becomes a frequent feature player here…

I imagine the model is least embarassed (doing it for the $ and doesn’t care); it’s other people in the room who take on the burden of embarassment for him/her, which chalks up (mostly) to lack of focus and a waste of emotional energy.

Luan is nineteen, perhaps twenty. She has been in high school gym class, seen other girls disrobing, taken showers while surrounded by other girls, seeing and being seen, and for crap’s sake Tiffany took pics of her in her underwear in the locker room, spread the pics around and Luann was only momentarily embarrassed. Furthermore, she has seen Gunther full-frontal from only a few feet away and was not traumatized. Further, she indulged in makeout sessions with Quill. Further, she’s had access to the Internet for several years and certainly surfed naked images now and then . . . .

And here she is, so gobsmacked by nudity that she has to sit outside the room where the nudity is going on?

This is

1) Stupid

2) Inconsistent with previous Luann history

3) Such obnoxious, and, frankly, weird behaviour for a college art student that Luann would be the subject of ridicule by the other students and she would be referred to mental health services by the instructor. I mean it. She’s been in Zebo’s art class for a LONG time now and he’s definitely exposed her to naked art.

5) potentially a deeply disturbing look at the interior musings of Karen Evans’ brain, if she really is serious. American Taliban anyone? The old “this is a family strip” excuse doesn’t work; first, they don’t have to show the nudity, just show the characters’ reaction to it, and 2) people Luann’s age who’ve been on stage and been in art classes for years DON’T ACT LIKE THIS!

We’ve got four more days to sort this out, so it won’t end as simply as Prof. Zebo expressing his disappointment in Luann and shutting the door.

Sitting outside the hallway door won’t work, Luann. Most of the time, the drawing studio is arranged so that there is not a sightline from the doorway to the model (though I admit to remembering one exception). Just do it, Luann! Go in; observe; draw; and be professional about it!

Least likely model: Gunther. Dark horse model: Pru.

Sad news for the nation:

Barbara Bush, former First Lady, has passed away.

I don’t think Tara has met Tiffany. I would like it – if Tara talked both Luann & Tiffany into joining her and going on the prowl for guys.

What if @WILDE BILL and others like him read a book on Psychology 1?

Zebo could tell Luann, “Art is about hatching out of your shell and showing everybody what you’ve got.” Of all people – Zebo would have the best chance of talking Luann into posing. But the money is still on Luann not doing it. Maybe someday Luann’s disciple Fay will turn the tables and lead the way for Luann to expand her horizons.
