Smokey would prefer the one in the kitchen be left on on low. Not really a trickle, but nothing too fast. She wants it as her own personal fountain. Doesn’t get her way, but she still drinks from the faucet if we don’t shut it off completely.
Why am I not surprised that Lupin would do this :) Stinker with a capital S these days. Time for a kitty timeout I think.
So glad mine just sit and stare at me until I turn the tap on. I’m sure if he knew how Dean would turn the tap on, he just loves right out of the tap fresh water A:)
I read a story a few years ago, about one of these “adventures” the cat liked the water on, and knew how to lift the handle. The cat staff came home to the landlord in their apartment because the tenant below called about water in the ceiling!
I have a cat with feral ancestry. He will only let you pet him if you turn the water faucet on in return. He jumps up, accepts about three strokes, then walks to the faucet and waits :)
Good morning and happy Monday/Funday, orbsters and orbabies! As you can see, we are back from the cabin where we had a wonderful time! I have two spider bites; one on my left calf and another on my right ankle that ache and itch like crazy, and the black flies were ferocious!
Lupin, for a Very Good Boy, you are being singularly naughty!
A number of years ago my bathroom faucet leaked and one of the cats I had then, Zoe, like to drink/play with the water. She probably wasn’t too happy when I fixed it.
A lot of the kittens I fostered figured out how to push up the lever so they could play in the water. We have vessel sinks and faucets – they would use their heads to push the lever. Then they’d splash all around. At some point, I just gave up trying to keep the mirrors clean.
The first cat I ever had as an adult liked to sit in the bathtub, waiting for me to turn the water on just a trickle so that she could drink from it. One day I didn’t do that fast enough for her liking so she started clawing at the cold water faucet, then peering up into the spout to see if any water was coming yet.
Yeah, she was smart. It was almost scary how smart she was.
Dusty’s happy time outside came to an abrupt halt when he caught a mole! We quickly separated him from his “toy”. Even after praise & some Temptations, he sulked, meowled & fussed over a hour! Wore himself out, like a toddler when refused a lollipop.
Now he’s curled in a cute little ball. Tossed the mole over the fence near the wetland behind our house. I wish him luck! If he’s smart, he’ll stay over there!
Cats are perpetual tots. Lupin is like 3 tots in ONE! Sure glad he’s not trying to influence my spoiled boy! ;-D Blessings, all orbsters & orbabies!
This is why I have a kitty fountain on the vanity. Otherwise the cats would be doing this. Fresh water in the fountain daily but alas I do still have to turn on the faucet every time I visit the facilities for the Bengals because they are water cats after all. It comes in the contract.
One of our cats kick-started the small kitchen waterfall a few years back while I was at work. The sink was stoppered as well so I came home to a half inch of water on the floor and a ruined stove. Sigh. Good job boys….
To All of our BCN Friends: an update on our little Siamese girl, Apple. Saw the vet oncologist 2 days ago and we are going with the chemo pills (2x a week) and daily prednisone treatment for now. Also she will get a vitamin B12 injection at home once a week. Vet is wonderful, so nice and really interested in animals. She has had 4 pets herself who have had cancer and says that of all the ones to get, this small cell lymphoma is the easiest to treat and this course of action we’re using can be helpful in adding 2 or more years to our fur kids lives. She will get a check up in 3 weeks and probably blood work then and a few more times over the summer. Prednisone will be long term (it’s a small dose) and the chemo pill will be until improvement in the stomach and small bowel is shown. Happy to report that she had gained a few ounces over the 2 weeks when we started the prednisone—yay! She’s always been so skinny and small. Every ounce helps!! Would gladly give her a pound or two of mine if I could. :-)
Anyway, THANKS THANKS THANKS to all of you for your thoughts, prayers, kind words and just for being the caring folks you are. It has helped me through some crying jags late at night while I waited to see what was going to happen. You are all very special people.
Last night, I heard a thud coming from the front of my home, so i went out to the kitchen to investigate. Sunny had pushed a 4 lb jar of peanut butter onto the floor from off the top of the fridge and was sitting by the remains, licking at a pile of peanut butter on the floor. It had not been anywhere near the edge, so he must have worked at it to get it to where he could knock it off.
The jar itself survived, and I was able to salvage most of the peanut butter, but the lid of the jar was totaled, so I got some other containers and transferred the remains of the peanut butter into them. I guess I am going to have to start storing my peanut butter somewhere the cats can’t get at it.

I don’t know … if that medium waterfall becomes a lake in the kitchen, the Boys might not like having to paddle through it.

Lupin, first the power strip button and now the faucet? Next time the question is asked, “who’s a good boy?” the answer, I dare say, will not be you.

So which cat gained control over the bathroom waterfall? (It’s called a “tap”.) Lupin again? Puck, in a waking moment? Or Elvis himself?

Cat of Adventure stands by the kitchen sink
While the Man and Woman warn him “Don’t touch!”
But he cannot hear them and it doesn’t matter anyway,
He needs to turn the faucet, he has to so much
And the temptation to turn the faucet is so strong
You know he can’t keep himself out of trouble.
So he goes out and reports the news the best he knows how,
As the water flows to the floor.
Listen to me,
Don’t go making waterfalls.
Stick to the faucets and the dishes you know.
I know you’re gonna do it your way, let the water fall
But I think the faucet’s running to fast!

Proving once again that, to a Cat of Adventure, the whole world is a toy box! (See the June 17, 2017 strip).
