Nice. The only thing missing here is Shannon saying: “Ta Daaaaaaaaa!”
But as far as I’m concerned, the real “Hero” here is Brad, who kept his head, didn’t get mad and tried to reach a happy medium, between the two ladies.
No doubt, Brad will make a great Dad one day. The guy has got a LOT going for him. Toni should be careful lest some young woman (A new firefighter, pershaps) take an interest in him and not care whether he’s married or not…….., ;)
So much for letting them do it then slumping off sadly. Lol. It’s cute. But, in the process of wrapping up with this quick gag, much opportunity for character growth is lost.
Did T.J. pain the room blue while they were talking? Because even if they’d been primed, the walls would still be a big old mess until they’d been painted, and the drawing wouldn’t do much to distract from that.
Um, did I miss something? While Brad and Toni and debating whether or not to allow Shannon to paint the room, Shannon paints the room. The kid runs down to Home Depot, buys a couple cans of blue paint with her credit card…. Yes, I missed something.
If Brad and Toni ever do have a kid, Toni will be the disciplinarian, the one who sets the rules and enforces them. Brad will be the pushover parent, especially if the child is a girl.
Here I am just commenting without reading anyone’s post yet. I think this is great, Shannon is both resilient, but loving, and recognizes how much her Aunt and Uncle mean to each other and to her. Still no con artist, although this might not quite be what Toni had in mind, but what could she say? Of course Gnk are not easily predictable, and I admit I am guilty of projection and judgment from my bleeding heart, social justice perspective, as much as others might be from their stricter, less forgiving, less trusting projection. But no thesis here, just very satisfying. There still is the problem with her dad of course, as Toni’s plot device panel yesterday so aptly put it, but Shannon is showing real non-brat-ty behavior here.
Shannon is an amazing artist for a 6-year-old. She ought to apprentice under Greg. That aside, If Toni wants children, she has to expect an untidy home and chaos. Shannon is her practice run. Brad has a more realistic view on things and is far the calmer one knowing there is always a solution, a happy medium as he calls it.
This says Shannon is no con artist – she dislikes disharmony in the house, seeing her aunt and uncle upset and having a heated discussion, so she sought a solution to make them happy. I bet both B & T thought, “Oh no, a graffiti on the wall,” but their hearts melted anyway. Shannon knew quite how to bring harmony back into the house.
I note Shannon left herself out of the picture. She sees herself as not having a home or a caregiver after Toni’s statement in yesterday’s strip. Shamnon is well on her way to serious self loathing and fear of abandonment (which instinctually = death in the mind of a small child). Perhaps she will become a cutter when she gets older to release endorphins to numb her pain. Seriously, the last two days are depressing.
To all the resident "psychologists that spoke out yesterday, this little Shannon found her way. He did so because of the example of a caring couple. This is a comic that’s played out in a million lives, not near as many with this result. Go Shannon!
Drawing on walls that don’t belong to her is not socially appropriate behavior. Responsible adults would make it a point to take corrective action. Restitution should ensue. Probably making her paint over it would be sufficient when the final color(s) are chosen. The learning experience (appropriate behavior) might be to ask her to redraw it on an appropriate medium and then display it on the wall.
Greg cannot seem to understand that he can’t pull off “lovable hellion” gags ala Dennis the Menace or Calvin and Hobbes with the Shannon character. The strip delves into too many “reality” issues. His readers (as evidenced above) will not merely smile, shake their heads, and offer benign platitudes to the victims of Shannon’s misbehaviors.
I should have posted this yesterday when everyone was saying that Shannon isn’t a manipulator——she’s a sweet, saintly six year old——-she doesn’t know how to “play” the adults to get her own way————
I refer you to the strip of 7-4-2017.
Even TJ. the old master, complimented her skill. :D :D :D
All together true, my friend! I particularly liked Brad’s willingness to suggest compromise – a true sign of maturity. AND I believe he really cares about Shannon and her feelings.
Luann1212, if you still haven’t read the comments, I can tell you that Shannon has been offered a scholarship………she will learn how to be shot out of a cannon, And, I will not say that it will be a blast. : )
Shannon’s an energetic creative kid. If Luann had done this at age 6 imagine the drawings and art she’d be producing now. But whenever Greg lets a character show a little talent he never follows up on it.

It would have been funnier that hell if Shannon would have drawn Brad the way he used to look. Maybe it just struck me as funny, anyway.
