I think Les has met his match. The tuition for the education he is going to get from Tiffany is going to be big time – no student loans available for this one.
Wait , what’s that miniscule feeling I’ve never felt before; could it be..Oh God, it can’t be, or is it? Am I actually beginning to feel something that could be mistaken for sympathy? for Leslie Knox? Stay tuned….
As a server, Tiffany will enjoy getting to take orders from other people who will expect them to do what she asks and she won’t last a day, possibly not even a few minutes. She should take the dishwasher job.
In the first panel, Les’ shirt is maroon in color. In panel 2, Tiff has sucked the life out of his shirt and it has turned white with fear. Panel 3, his shirt recovers.
Tiff switches back & forth from the dumbest to the smartest. If Les is actually going to go for it – I have to say nobody but Tiff could have pulled that off. This is a live babe with apparently a much stronger will than Les. Of course after her triumph, Tiff will gallop off in a day or two. Les will experience diminished respect from everyone at The Fuse (while washing dishes). And in answer to the obvious question from others, Tiff will reply, “I wouldn’t #$%* anybody that stupid.” Some Luann comments wanted Les to wind up dead. The current arc is better.
So when the Fuze opens up tomorrow, management (Pru, big Al, the DeGroots, whoever it is), will be completely on board with someone coming off the street more or less, and taking the job from one of their current employees.
Oh well, there’s only one thing to say, …“Serenity Now!”
Maybe it’s just me. But in this pact Les has only disadvantages and Tiffany’s behavior seems really wrong and scary. The right thing to do for Les would be stand up, pay the bill (if he’s a gentleman), go away and then tell Gunther how self-centered his friend Tiffany is.
So we’re dropping the whole starting-a-nail-salon-business plot, and this is just all about paying a credit card bill by working part-time as a server now?
I really hope this doesn’t get stupid. I absolutely do not want to see Tiff “compensate” Les for letting her take his job… or even offer that… I really don’t… But, to be honest, I really don’t see how or why Les would give up his job, even for her… unless he does anticipate that offer.
In what universe is any of this even remotely a good idea? And how does it really help Tiffany’s insatiable need for cash? Les doesn’t make near enough to satisfy her shopping needs!
This strip merely takes up the story from last week. Except for Tiff’s exceptional self-centered cluelessness (not seen in awhile) the only thing of note is Les’ dumbfounded response. He has been taken completely out of his game by this turn of events. The Les of the past would have crudely shut her down in a heartbeat. So, I suppose, Greg has it that Les still seeks some possible gain or reward form this meeting. Greg has a whole week to play this out.
I guess we can add “the hiring process” to the list of things this strip does a horrendous job of portraying. Or is there some business out there that actually lets an employee just give his job away to someone else without any management approval?
I have a hard time thinking Les will go for this. And again, is waiting tables at the dinner theater the best paying job in this town?!? It might make sense that Les would have the freedom to give away his job if this was some below-min-wage stipended position (common in theater), in which case what is Tiff doing? She wants money.
I typed and thought left a nice, cheeky, smart comment which I knew would have a lot of responses, but GoComics did not agree apparently, and knocked me down a peg, which is fine actually. But I still get mad when that happens. Anyway I did say that apropos yesterday’s hot and heavy commentary, that today is Earth Day, but I hope old Les and Tiff will direct the comments back to Luannverse. On that, I still don’t see what Les is getting out of Tiffany’s plan; neither does Les judging from Panel 2. Also how is that going to help Tiffany in her plan to get control back from Ann, his mom, and being independent? Does she want that, or does she want Dad’s money again? Or something totally different? Oh and by the way Les IS a server, so I was right. I don’t take back my apology, but it’s nice to be right about something with my aggravated state of distracted forgetfulness, So there!!
Even making the leap of faith that waitressing could earn a fraction of what Tiffany needs for her current expenses and business plans, can’t she just go around town and check out any number of restaurants with a “wait staff wanted” sign in the window? Why on earth would it be a good idea to work in the place financed by Ann Eiffel’s brother, and by taking Les’s job away from him?
Tiffany has never washed a dish in her life, so she doesn’t know that the professional suds-busters wear rubber gloves to protect their hands. I don’t think Les knows that either.
Instead of that, why not ask Mr. Gray about the possibility of opening a nail salon in the Fuse? She can give discounts to her fellow students as a draw (especially since she has already shown them that she has the skills), and then ask them for good reviews. She may have to be in debt for initial layout but a stall in an existing building is cheaper than a separate building.
I do not know, but perhaps being sans coffee and sans pipe has left my neurons a bit sluggish as I am unable to understand today’s segment fully….
1. What is Tiffany up to that she needs to be a SERVER at The Fuse as opposed to just a dishwasher?
2. Is Tiffany going to try to scam Ann somehow by being a server?!? I am not sure how this could be.
3. I can “get” that Tiffany does not want to work much… and that dishwashing is a helluva lot harder (at least on her hands) than is serving…. but neither is what I would call easy work.
4. Is Les going to willingly accept the grungier job of dishwashing a) because he mistakenly thinks he may “get lucky” by doing this for Tiffany, b) because he too is wanting to get back at Ann, or c) will he not agree to the switch?
5. Will Les actually be able to switch jobs on a whim like this? Would Tiffany actually be hired as a server or as a substitute server? I imagine for the sake of comedy the answer will be YES but it will be interesting to see how Greg actually navigates this.
Still, for my addled brain, things are very confusing and unclear. I suspect coffee and a pipe would help. Oh well.
News Flash for Les: If its sex you think you’ll get from Tiffany, forget it; she’ in love with Daddy and unless you can show her the lifestyle he given her, sex ain’t gonna happen. But if in your demented little brain you think it will, get it up front; once you start washing dishes, you’ll be so far off Tiffany’s radar, she won’t even know or care that you exist.
Tiffany can control Les and she knows it; the fact that he is even discussing her proposal is evidence. There is nothing for Les to gain but he can’t say no to a woman that interests him sexually. Some of Ann Eiffel’s ways are rubbing off on Tiff.
Les’s shirt is maroon in the 1st panel, white in the 2nd (w/ a maroon handkerchief in his pocket), and maroon in the 3rd (w/ the maroon handkerchief). Is this a marker of his lack of focus and inability to stay on track in his job?
Tiffany does not understand hiring proceeds. The Degroots are familiar with Tiffany’s ‘work ethic’. Stand by for the- ‘ We have other candidates to interview. Thanks for applying’
