There is plenty of time for Tiffany to improve her scores.

47% for Tiffany is probably realistic. All she needs to do is follow the prof’s advice.Or switch to a different economics class. My first year Economics course was the lowest grade of all my engineering courses in which I got high 90s in all but Economics – barely got low 60s.

Hoo Boy. 47%! Not good. Tiff will indeed have to work HARDER.

Add another “heavy hitter” to her list. Tiff got passing grades before with Gunther’s help.

Seriously though, Tiffany NEEDS some serious “Motivation.” Being this close to Halloween, it’s High Time Ann Eiffel flew in on her broomstick with more “bad news.”

The very sight of Ann SHOULD compel Tiffany to work harder.

Tiff should get a couple of Ann’s pictures and tape one to the mirror and one to the fridge, “Rocky Balboa Style.”

I guess this is leading to a Bets/Tiffany study group assuming that Tiffany can get over her embarrassment about the grade.

Tiffany, stop right now..ask Betts for help..she’s not only a new friend, but someone who is excited about seeing people succeed from all impressions..she would probably love the chance to bond with you over this stuff.

Hey Tiffany, why don’t you swallow your pride and show Bets your test score. Then explain to her what you’re having difficulty understanding about microeconomics. From the looks of her test score and bubbly helpful personality, i’m sure bets would be more than happy to help you pass the class.

Tiffany needs to ask Bets to look over her test. Sometimes straightening out one or two concepts might put Tiff on the right track.

Yes, Tiff, 47 would be good if it was out of 50. But we see that it has that % sign afterwards. I wonder how she would do if the questions were basically the same, but used terminology that is in her interest. Kind of like those math tests contoured to the mindset of the ones taking them. Here is an example question dealing with income and expenses: Itchy and Snake get $500 for each late model car they steal. If they steal 2 cars per night, how long will it take them to save $50,000 if their combined meth habits average $340 per day?

I say, If you don’t like your test score, ignore it!

Here we have the basic choice: Beauty or brains? Take your pick.

Never had a prof who was that abrupt with the struggling students.

Just working harder at something one doesn’t do well is not necessarily a path to success. It can be a path to bigger failure.

Tiff’s not a bad actress, I thought those big eyes were a sign she was pleasantly surprised by her grade. Clearly that was NOT the case.

Will Tiffany end up at Pitts community College along side Luann ?

Oh no Tiffany is too ashamed of her low grade to tell Bets (who is the most qualified person to ask for help). What she will you do now? Will she ask Gunther to help her in secret, or will she continue to say nothing, until it is too late and falling in a deep depression again?

WAY back in the dark ages when I was in school, 74 % was an F. 75 was a D minus.

I still hoping Tiffany will find her hidden talents in this class.

The questions are…Is Tiffany not really applying herself yet, so the potential for a better grade exists? Or is that her best possible grade in this field of study? Considering applying herself to schoolwork is kinda a new thing for her, I assume the former, not the latter.

Tiff is failing because she cannot afford to pay for someone else to write her exams.

For Tiff, 47% on a test is probably good.

She is not dumb. She just needs some solid tutoring and she needs to apply herself. She’s just used to life the easy way.

Ouch. 47 is not a target zone Tiffany wants to stay in…. she needs to seek tutoring help or other help….. quickly. Even though grading scales vary, in my courses 73 is the cutoff for a “C”…. anything less is a grade that will not count within a major’s program…. and would constitute a “fail” whether it is a C-, D+, D, D-, or F….. so Tiffany needs to create a whole new strategy to get herself into the grade zone she needs.

I guess GnK aren’t through torturing Tiff yet. :o(

No one becomes a top student overnight. Tiffany was never used to having to work hard in classes before. In high school, she probably got by because she was a cheerleader (like the football team automatically got passing grades and probably never even took tests). She just needs some tutoring, not just in the subject, but in how to actually study…

Work hard and improve yourself?!? Isn’t that Politically Incorrect now days?

I got that score on my first Macroeconomics exam, too. Don’t feel bad Tiff! Just study and you too can get a C in the class. You just have to apply the lessons to a context that engages you.

Looks like Tiff is going to need some extra help. Better she talk to Bets about it. I shudder to think what her father and Ann will think about it.

I imagine Tiffany is looking at things on a relative scale (with respect to her past performance). From her perspective she sees 47 and almost getting half the test correct; next time, maybe, she will do better. Instructors love to see upward change (as opposed to descent). I like Dr. Fabby’s encouraging remarks, i.e. telling students to work harder as opposed to telling them to drop the course. If Tiffany gets a C+ or a B- for a final grade (she can do this), that would be just fine.

Bets to the rescue? Lets see.

47 for someone who didn’t understand a word of the first lesson isn’t that bad.

Why do I get the feeling that she’ll soon be dropping this course? She knows she can’t handle it.

I’ve had teachers who were more helpful to struggling students. One (macroeconomics) kept past tests in the library for review, another (weather and climate) collected data on his tests and threw out questions that were answered incorrectly by the majority—I forget his percentage cutoff, and another (geology) offered extra office time.From the comments, it strikes me as almost fraud (grade inflation) if: 1) teachers cannot write tests adequate for the class or 2) must dilute tests because core requisite information is missing from the students. Another teacher (English) gave a lot of vocab, rewrite opportunities, etc. to improve grades. Most of the class complained it was too hard: I loved professors like her.

That’s still a better grade than she was Expecting.

… or have your rich parents bribe the teacher.

I’d like to see Tiff more successful than this. I am tired of the airhead crap.

C’’mon, Tiffster! You can do better than 47%. Buckle down, exploit Gunther, let Bets help. You can master Microeconomics if you can manage your pocketbook.

Tiff needs a tutor. Learning from experience is a tough job.
