Once this one is settled, it’s on to “Don’t stand there with the fridge door open”.

Earl: Here’s a hint: Guys can pee sitting down. In fact, it’s a win – win: Not only does Opal lose a bit of ammunition, but you can pee in the dark without even waking all the way up. Or missing.

Hubby only left the seat up once, and we were married nearly 55 years.

Men leave the toilet sit up, women leave the toilet sit down, but the toilet lid up. Where’s the problem?

Just both of you put them down. Problem solved. Lid and everything. It’s much more sanitary that way.

Rule of thumb, put it down, or when she comes in she’ll almost drown!

Next question for Opal . Should the toilet paper unroll from the front or back of the spool ?

Sinks aren’t just for washing hands. Solves the whole seat up/seat down dilemma. Or at least he won’t be hearing about it anymore, and that’s the important thing.

I’m not too sympathetic to the woman here since she has every bit as much ability to look (and should every time) as he does to put the seat down. HOWEVER, I always put the entire lid down — as does my wife — because studies have shown that when you flush, a lot of that stuff flies up into the air and all over your sink and tub and whatever happens to be on them.

Pearl, he CAN use it without ever putting the seat up. Would you really want that? Plus, do you ever put the seat up for him after you get done? Then why should he have to put it down for you?

I learned to close the lid when the kids were toddlers. It only takes a split second to have a tragedy.

We had cats when I was a kid, if you didn’t close the lid, you had wet cats running around.

Why would she assume the seat would automatically be down? I’ll bet she doesn’t put it up after she is done.

I always said that the world would be a slightly better place if men just sat down to use the toilet. Sitting on the toilet is one of the primary reasons I never killed anyone at work. I don’t know how many times I was angry or stressed at work and went in the bathroom and closed the door and just sat down for a few minutes and de-stresed and relaxed and got my thoughts together. Even when I wasn’t stressed, I always took an extra minute, just to enjoy the quiet.

And, inexplicably, men still miss. Having grown up with males, I can tell you they never seem to notice (or clean up) the drip down the outside of the toilet and on the floor. Disgusting.

Either way, before you flush, the lid (and, of course, the seat) should be down. Always.

My parents never taught me that I had a right to expect the seat to be down, and so I don’t, and it never would occur to me to be annoyed. If it’s up, I just put it down, what’s the big deal?

When I get annoyed is when they don’t bother to put it up and instead pee all over the seat.

Common sense, and fair play, dictate that both the seat, and lid are lowered each time, regardless of whomever uses it. That way, EVERYONE has to lift at least one, and there is never a question as to who left what, up.

Totally agree with the comments here about closing the lid before you flush! They’ve actually done scientific research to check this out and when you flush lid open toilet water sprays like 6 feet! Toilet water with urine and fecal matter in it!!!
