And one of those dots was one of the kindest men I ever knew, with the best sense of humor and the ability to handle anything life threw at him. He was a college professor and helped so many people. He was 59 and had kids still in college. He’d gotten off the ventilator and out of the ICU and things were looking up after three scary weeks in the hospital and then—gone just like that. They assume it was the virus’s tendency to cause multiple blood clots at once, but due to its infectiousness they did not autopsy him on the grounds that it would just have exposed and endangered more of the staff.
Can’t resolve the pixels on my largest monitor, even when I magnify the image to the maximum allowed. But do the math, even if the image covered the full screen. You have to leave empty pixels around each one, so it’s a resolution of 4000 X 2000. Hmm… That suggests someone with a 4K monitor can actually see it?
To all those who replied to Igor … Petersburg earlier: I will here assume that many of you, or at least half, are arguing with Igor. Instead, delete your replies already posted, and re-post them as new comments with the heading “@Igor … Petersburg” Then your reply becomes a new comment, it is clear that it is a response to another commenter, and you lessen the troll’s count of replies which is what determines the Featured Comment. After the new Supreme Court justice is approved, one of the first acts will be the completion of the tearing down of the Affordable Care Act. This will be about the time COVFEFE-45 and the seasonal flus strike the U.S. The death rate will explode as people will be denied access to health care. It’s a perfect storm.
If Trumps only job was to stand on 5th ave. and shoot someone every 2.5 mins., 40 hours a week, for his entire 4 year term as president, he would have killed 200,640 Americans – still fewer than have died from Covid-19 on his watch. -George Takei

It took about 6 months from when numbers started to rise (mid-March) to reach these numbers. After a decline from our peak, our rates are rising again, and winter is coming (to coin a phrase). We’ll still be dealing with this in another six months; care to speculate what the numbers will look like then?

Let’s see here, more die in the U.S. annually from cardiovascular disease & cancer (by large margins) than will die of C-19 yet they’re not national emergencies worthy of creating a national economic catastrophe or hourly corporate news updates… wonder why.
I’m an 83 year old woman and have been following Doonesbury since its’ inception in the very early 70’s. This AM’s strip was the first time it has brought me – rightfully – to tears. Thank you, again, Gary Trudeau, for reminding us of what is really important in our world.
I always read the comic pages before even looking at the “news”. My favorites in our local newspaper are Doonesbury, Pearls Before Swine, and used to be Non Sequitur until the newspaper dropped it and added the stupidest comic strip I’ve ever seen “Half Full”. So I joined GoComics in order to read Non Sequitur.
Americans ARE kinda fat, but why do most Russian women seem to aspire to be mail-order brides or courtesans, or whores or all three to men in the West? What’s wrong with Russian men that makes the women flee?
Go look at George Takai’s post from yesterday for a great breakdown of what 200k deaths mean. Trump shooting someone on 5th Avenue every 2.5 minutes 24/7/365 since he was inaugurated. Oh, and that actually isn’t quite the death toll from COVID-19 so you’re still a little short. Absolutely horrifying, but still not as bad as all the Qanon loons lying about the death rate and totals. You “people” are disgusting.
to be fair, though, a lot of those dots are from blue states so they don’t really count. just counting the red dots shows things are really going well!
I’d like to ask one question of the nominee to the Supreme Court: “Do you know that the current occupant who nominated you has quite literally more blood on his hands than any thousand abortion doctors put together? And if you didn’t know that, are you also surprised to hear that the world is round?” (I mean, where do they GET these people???!!!!_
I hope (that is to say, if civilization survives Li’l Donnie) that in future years, Halloween will feature “Trump Blood” as part of its tradition. After all, we joke nowdays about both Atilla the Hun and Genghis Khan (Hitler and Stalin and Mao are too soon), so sooner or later we’re BOUND to laugh at all the blood on the “short little fingers” of one Donald J. Trump……………..
The analysis, by the Washington, D.C.-based Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, found that 3.7 percent of U.S. households reported they sometimes or often had “not enough to eat” during 2019. Meanwhile, the most recent Census data from the end of August of this year showed that 10 percent of households said they sometimes or often did not have enough to eat within the past seven days. Levels of food insecurity in Black and Latino households are significantly higher, at 19 percent and 17 percent, respectively, compared to 7 percent in white households.
Even worse, while about 1 percent of adults with children said their children sometimes or often went hungry in 2019, between 9 and 14 percent of such adults said the same about their kids in August 2020. CBPP estimates that this adds up to about 5 million school-aged children in such households.
“What I see every day from the pandemic is amazingly-increased numbers of severely underweight children coming to our clinic, and parents really panicked about how they’re going to find enough food,” says Dr. Megan Sandel, an associate professor of pediatrics at Boston University School of Medicine.
Hmmm. Should put a dot for every child killed through Roe v Wade. Although not sure that’s trumps fault. But hey. Might as well blame him for that too.
Wow! The trolls are out in force here! They must love you too, Mr. Doonesbury! I like your use of pixels for the Covid death count. Very thoughtful and sobering.
I don’t know how the Americans can cope with the horror of the situation. I think a firing squad would be in order for the punishment of those who have lied about the pandemic’s seriousness.
We are now hearing that Trump has a massive amount of debt, he has only paid $1500 in taxes to the US in the past 15 years, but has paid much more in taxes to other countries. All of this makes him a national security risk. It is no wonder he wanted to become POTUS and is so frightened at this time.
It’s worth noting that the 200,000 people who’ve died of the virus is only a fraction of the number of people who’ve CONTRACTED the virus. That’s LOTS and LOTS of people who’ve contracted the virus and most of them would not have done so if Trump hadn’t so thoroughly sabotaged the government’s response to it, not only by claiming it was a “hoax” but by dismantling government measures that Obama had put in place for the EXPRESS PURPOSE of being called upon in such a crisis.
A suitably paranoid sort might conclude than Trump, for whatever reason, WANTS to kill as many Americans as possible and that his claims and dismantlings and so on are all part of a master plan to that effect.
A somewhat more reality-oriented sort might opine that no convincing evidence exists to imply that Trump is anywhere nearly intelligent enough to concoct such a plan. So there’s that, anyway.

What’s the big deal? Only 200,000 dead, thanks to Trump and His Disciples.
We need somewhere between twice as many and ten times as many before we achieve herd mentality/herd immunity.
.
So what if Trump and His Disciples have all that blood on their hands? It’s not as if they give a crap about any of those deaths.
It’s such a small price to pay to get The Messiah reelected.
