Larry went to visit his 86 year old grandfather in a very rural area. After spending a great evening chatting the night away, Larry’s grandfather prepared breakfast of bacon and eggs. Larry noticed a film like substance on his place, and questioned his grandfather asking, “Are these plates clean?”
His grandfather replied, “They’re as clean as cold water can get em. Just you go ahead and finish your meal”.
For lunch the old man made hamburgers. Again, Larry was concerned about the plates as it appeared to have tiny specks around the edge that looked like dried egg and asked, “Are you sure these plates are clean?”
Without looking up the old man said, “I told you before, those dishes are as clean as cold water can get them. Now don’t you worry, I don’t want to hear another word about it”.
Later that afternoon, as he was leaving, his grandfather’s dog started to growl, and wouldn’t let him pass. Larry yelled and said, “Grandfather, your dog won’t let me get to my car”.
Without diverting his attention from the football game he was watching on TV, the old man shouted, ‘COLDWATER, GO LAY DOWN NOW, YEH HEAR ME!!!”
Due to the Coriolis effect on the sprayer arm, in the Southern Hemisphere you load the dishwasher in the reverse fashion, to achieve the same clean results….
What Bernice says would be true if the sprayer bar were free-wheeling and spun at a high rate of speed. I am not a dish washer repairman but I suspect the sprayer arm is turned by a motor and the water is pressurized by a pump to a much higher level then one would get from mere centrifugal forces. So her smarty-pants explanation doesn’t hold any water.
My sister uses the same trick used by Luann. Dogs owners are… peculiar. I’m comforted to think that the dish will be cleaned later with water and soap.
So Bernice is a “nut case” because she knows a little something about dishwashers? “Come on,” Luann.
And by the way. In SOME places, the dishes are still washed by hand. And Luann SHOULD know, because her parents have an employee working at the Fuse doing just THAT.
Considering the cost of dog food, veteranarian’s bills and other things, the dish washer is probably cheaper. And then there’s the way the Douglases do it…
As a matter of fact this was normal procedure during the Middle Ages in wealthy places. The dogs would lick the plates clean, a dash of water and presto, ready for the next meal.
My dishwasher has the sprayer on the bottom so I put the dishes in the lower rack. I put cups in the top rack. Do any dishwashers have the sprayer at the top?
I was going to comment, thinking I was alone, that I’ve done this! Apparently, I’m not alone. My hubby always pre-washed in the sink. A dog would have saved water! Lol!;-D
To some, that example may be disgusting. Still, I know folks who live with a Puddles, or several of them. They are fairly clean and hygene-conscious people overall. Yet they see no problem with a regular face to face “kiss, kiss” from their own Puddles. Oh well…..
Are some of you that incapable to realize that of course afterwards the plate would still go in the machine to be washed with soap and sanitized?I mean Come on man!
I’m going to get a dog in Spring but there is no way I am going to let the little canine lick clean my plates (or try to keep it from doing it) but this set of panels is really that entry on the gag a day so many hear seem to complain that Luann is not; it’s meant to be funny folks, hilarity ensuing and all.
Imagine how dogs feel. You come home from the grocery store with all kinds of great smelling stuff. Dogs then think you are a magnificent hunter. You cook and prepare meals. The dog, ever hopeful and full of eternal love, gets a bowl with the same meal it eats it’s eternal life with you. You probably don’t walk your dogs, either. But I like the name Spring for your new dog! Please consider at least saving some leftover veggies without sauces to top off your dog’s meal. Not bread. Just meat or veggies that you might throw out.
My Mother and Grandmother used to cook kidneys, for the dogs that lived with us.Occasionally, I would also try some of the kidney. On special occasions, we would ALL have liver. Canine cuisine, can be creative…

Luann is both lazy and disgusting. You can’t have your dog clean the plates. That’s so unsanitary and senseless.
