Look at the big ol catcher’s mitt of a paw. If you blow it up real big you see little dots on that mitt. I wonder what those are? (Should I really encourage this obsession?)
I know if the parties involved were dogs, there would be much running uncontrollably, jumping, and doing the Fandango. How will the kitties react? How long can they feign indifference?
We used to tease our cats (and proved they could hear us in their sleep) whenever they’d curl up cozy. We’d whisper “gonna git ’is tail!” and the cat would wrap his tail (like a hug) around his hip.
In my mind, I see the mailman ringing the bell to ask the Woman if she knows who the kitten belongs to. The woman will of course recognize Beatrix and bring her into the house. Hopefully the boys will see the mailman but even if they don’t, Bea will fill the boys in on her adventure and rescue while the Woman calls the bookstore to give Bea’s owner the good news!
Miniature Golf Day — FORE!!! All the frustration of golf without the good long walk, golf carts, or caddies. While real golf has been described as “a good walk spoiled,” it can no longer be so described—How many golfers actually walk the eighteen holes, any more? How many can, especially carrying a golf bag full of clubs? (They are, admittedly, heavy.) Golf is a game of skill, brains, and a relatively low amount of strength. It would be a lot healthier if the golfer had to walk. (Concessions for those too old or physically impaired, of course.) Miniature golf was supposedly invented so women could play. They were not supposed to raise their arms over their heads … Say what? Ladies, progress has been made. After all, the game was invented by men wearing skirts …
Escapology Day —This is the day Houdini first performed his Water Torture Cell escape. It was an illusion (and an expensive one: The cell apparently cost over $10,000 to build, in 1912 dollars. All he needed after that were 10,000 suckers to break even. I’m quite sure he did not go with the lowest bidder. It also had a safety: Two large plugs in the bottom he could pull in an emergency to let the water out—he wasn’t counting on those 10,000 “suckers.”
National Pecan Cookie Day —Other than those allergic, is there anyone who doesn’t like pecans? I didn’t know that a pecan tree is actually a kind of hickory—one of the hardest trees produces one of the softest nuts (once you get past the shell.) I resemble that remark …
Oh my cat! I am so excited. Look at Bea’s sweet face so eager and the mailman smiling. Puck is going to be over the moon. What if Elvis sees and finally comes a believer because the mailman brought Bea back?
Will she arrive as “COD” or “postage due”? (For the younguns amongst us, back in the day the post office would “collect on delivery”—COD— the cost of shipped merchandise, and if the sender had failed to put enough postage on an envelope, the recipient would be asked to pay the difference.)
In panel 3, Puck looks so sad and dejected, but in panel 4 his ears are going back and he’s starting to pull out of his nose on toes coil. He is aware that something is going on behind him. Did he perhaps get poked by Tillie’s notebook? Can he hear Beatrix? There’s going to be a lot of folks sitting by their screens and hitting “refresh” over and over at 1:00 AM EDT waiting to see what happens next!

Climb every tree branch
Search every twig
Climb right to the tree top
No matter how tall or big!
…….
Climb every tree branch
Don’t lose your phone,
But remember always,
You are not alone!

Your friends are all there
As you climb high above
They will keep you from harm
With all of their love!

Ain’t no fun times when Bea’s gone
It’s so sad when she’s away
Ain’t no good times while she’s gone
And she’s always gone too long
Anytime she goes away
Wonder this time where she’s gone
Wonder if she’s gone astray
Ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone
And these cats just can’t go on
Until she’s home to stay
And I know, I know, (repeat metric bonkers but soulful amount)
Hey, the young thing should never leave home alone
‘Cause we miss that feline when she’s gone
Ain’t no fun times when she’s gone
Only heartbreak every day
Ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone
And we need Bea to come home
Anytime she goes – hallelujah, she’s back!

Every now and then we get a little bit worried
That you’re never coming back
(Turn around) Every now and then we get a little bit tired
Of listening to the sound of our fears
(Turn around) Every now and then we get a little bit nervous
That hope of seeing you again has gone by
(Turn around) Every now and then we get a little bit terrified
That this could be our final goodbye
(Turn around, Pucky) Every now and then we fall apart
(Turn around, Pucky) Every now and then we fall apart
And we need you now today
And we need you more than ever
And if you’d only come back to us
We’ll be letting you go never
And we’d only be feeling all right
’Cause seeing you can never be wrong
Having you here would make everything fine
Despair is like a shadow on us all of the time (all of the time)
We don’t know what to do and we’re always in the dark
We’re living some cruel nightmare that’s no walk in the park
We really need you today
Forever’s gonna start today
Forever’s gonna start today
Once upon a time we had Beatrix to love
But now we seem miles apart
There’s nothing we can do
A total eclipse of the heart
Once upon a time there was light in our lives
But now we only cry in the dark
Nothing we can say
A total eclipse of the heart
