I sure wish there was a radio that could connect me to messages from my animal companions who have crossed the rainbow bridge. Although perhaps to my adult human ears it would only sound like meowing?
First thought after them waiting all year for one shot at sending a message: “Well, that was a really important message!” Then, about two seconds later, “Wait, that is a really important message!”
Cats are very sensitive creatures. As I was reading this wonderful strip… I thought of all my cats who went on to greener fields. When I began to wonder if the humans would be allowed to join them… one of my cats began to clean the hand that was cuddled up to her to keep her warm. Somehow this told me… yep… the Afterlife has cats! :)
D’aww! :) For those who missed it last year, here’s my ouija board story: We put an old ouija board under a Lionel train transformer to keep it from scorching the carpet in the living room. Worked great, but the trains kept switching themselves on… :)
I didn’t know what RCO on Angus’s microphone stood for. Here’s a Wikipedia answer in case I’m not the only ignorant one: “Remote communications outlets are remote aviation band radio transceivers, established to extend the communication capabilities of Flight Information Centres and flight service stations. Pilots can find RCO frequencies in charts or publications such as the Chart Supplement or Canada Flight Supplement.”
The good news is my power is back on. The bad news is my DVR is dead as a doornail! (Didn’t know ever doornails were living.) I can’t get through the ask the cable company to find out if there is some sort of reset button I can push. If they have to replace it, that means I’ve lost all the shows I’ve saved up to watch.
Just a reminder that Georgia has 4 paintings in the Alley Cats and Angels auction here is the link: https://event.gives/acaa and here are the direct links:
We celebrate dia de los Muertos here in South Texas. I include pictures of the pets I have had throughout my lifetime. It is a chance to enjoy them again. I only want to go to Heaven if I get to hang out with them, again.
Remember, be NICE to the ones in the afterlife! … After all, we’ll all be coming there someday! (My plan is to do it at the absolute last possible living moment, then joyfully travel!) Happy Halloween!
Like the song says, when die I want to live on the outskirts of heaven. I don’t need streets of gold, my heaven would be beautiful, peaceful green mountains and fields filled with flowers, and animals everywhere.
The movie, Coco, gives a wonderful image of the afterlife. I had always thought that Dia Los Muertos was just the Mexican version of Halloween. It’s not. I think All Hallows Eve is closer to it, not Halloween.
John Adams Birthday: I am a Fellow Emeritus of the John Adams Society—"Obnoxious, disliked, and always first in line to be hanged." John Adams is also a personal hero, and among the “Founding Fathers” second only to George Washington in my opinion. Considering the volume of wisdom and opinion he left behind, no one has yet “shut that man up.”
World Lemur Day: Their name comes from the Latin lemures, which means “spirits of the dead,” and if you’ve ever looked one in the face, you can see how they inspired the name. So today as their day is appropriate. I was once a member of the League of Extraordinary Modelers, the mascot of which was a lemur (L. E. M. ur.) so I’m rather fond of these primates.
Buy a Doughnut Day: Better yet, make some. In the old American West, doughnuts were often called “bear sign” by cowboys. This may be a reference to the symbol of a bear paw that represented good luck to some Amerind peoples, and having the cook make them was very good luck. It may also be a reference to the fact that doughnuts are bear attractants pare excellence—regardless of the definition of “bear.” I expect Gent to arrive momentarily …
National Candy Corn Day: Over ~200,000,000 pounds sold annually—the stuff is short-term addictive, no one can eat just one. I wonder if this could be the “toebean methadone” …
Apropos of this and tomorrow:
Sugar Addiction Awareness Day: Yes, it is addictive. Ahnald wasn’t far wrong when he called it “the other heroin.” Humans are probably genetically wired to have a love and desire for sweet foods, a lasting curse from our primate ancestors. I’m not diabetic, I hope never to be—but it is a constant struggle. If you don’t have a “sweet tooth,” consider yourself blessed.
Haunted Refrigerator Night: Never mind under the bed, something in the back of the fridge is drooling … Either that is sauerkraut … When did we last have sauerkraut? … or Chthulu is taking a nap in there
Fluffy, Squeaky, Teddy, Kiki, Maggie, Monster(Uncas), Storm, Friskey, Quixote, Hobbes, Firefly, Wooly Bear, Althea, miss you, love you, will see you again!
I love this cartoon so much that I am adopting a cat from the Humane Society. It’s been a while since I have had a cat and the adventures of our cat news team made me realize that I wanted another cat!

Ouija boards say “Good Bye” at the bottom. This very special spectral one says “Bye Bye” and has a black cat between the words!

Beautiful spirits,
Come thru the air
Immersed in your love
We are without care
Sounds from the other side
Heard in the night
Sent by such sweet souls
Received with delight
Beautiful spirits,
From way up above
List’ while we answer
With our own timeless love
(Paul J. Frederick / Stephen Collins Foster – Beautiful Dreamer)

So even ghosts have to position themselves to help get better reception. Is there ghostly tin foil to put on the antenna?

Meanwhile, Back on the Nile
Beatrixia: I just found these papyrus scrolls in the archives at the Great Pyramid. They are a message from the past.
Puckmosis: We need to show them to the Queen at once!
Elvis-Anum: Quick! What do they say?
Puckmosis: Don’t you think the Queen should be the first to hear them?
Elvis-Anum: Oh, I guess so.
Sometime Later
Beatrixia: Your Majesty, we have found a message from our ancestors at the Great Pyramid. May I Read it?
Queen Catshepsut the Golden: Proceed, Bea.
Betrixia (Reading)
To our friends in the future:
This is King Catfu sending you words of encouragement on this day of dedication.
We have completed the Great Pyramid, and hope by now you have found a use for it.
You may wonder why I built the thing. Sometimes things just seem like a good idea.
I hope you have come up with good ideas of your own, whether they make sense or not.
I will now seal up this scroll and have the Papyrus Cat deliver it to the Great Pyramid.
Regards,
King Catfu
The Queen: My reply to him would be: Thanks for realzies.
