Coming Soon đ At the beginning of April, youâll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
Local (Obnoxious) Morning DJs plan to spend the week talking about all the COVID problems with sports. Iâm sure it is a slow lead up⊠probably going to be Friday⊠but they plan to discus Football Players in big plastic bubbles while in play.
There is nothing that is âNormalâ any more. We should give up looking for it.
IF and I say IF we had used the closure in March and April well, we couldâ have re-opened carefully by now. But thatâs quite apparently not possible for most humans⊠and utterly impossible for democratically elected officials.
We managed to do it, but it has taken 3 months of relentless grind and we are still not back to normal yet.We have not had a single new case in the past month. At the end of this week we transition to CoVid-Normal. Where the price is constant vigilance, frequent testing, ubiquitous contact tracing and wearing of masks in indoor public spaces.
The return to normal will only be accomplished when our federal government is no longer infested with scientific illiterates who donât have enough common sense to listen to scientists or deem it unprofitable to listen to them. Sadly, many small businesses will never recover but billionaires increased their net worth by over $600 billion in the first six months of the pandemic.
It may be more frightening. Somehow there is a dangerous (to the rest of us) mentality that has developed with the recent announcement.
âHey! We have a vaccine. We can do what we want and go wild.â
For the lowly educated a vaccine does not mean cure and it will take months, if there are no bad effects in the general population, to make it to everyone. Probably the same people who think that being tested negative on Tuesday means you can safely visit Granny on Friday.
Itâs smaller than the flea that transmitted the plague, and probably smaller than the 1918 flu virus, but, like many pests, it wins by out-producing its hosts, being able to attack from almost any direction, immune to most preventive measures, and relying on the ignorance of its target population. That last one is its greatest weapon.
I was told that the media is spreading unwarranted fear and terrorism by reporting on Covid cases and deaths. Wiley is just contributing to it to their sick opinion.
Yeah, thereâs no going back to the way it was. After the new normal normalizes, itâll be a welcome relief to have a strong central-powered government come in and bury the bodies and quell the anarchy.
The more we test, the more people with postive anti-bodies will show upâŠmeaning, they had it, they got over it, they got on with their livesâŠBTW, if you had SARS 15-20 years ago, you will show positive on your Covid test.
As the toon shows, this has been the pattern of Covid 19 namely that it seems that when the virus is under control, the damn thing comes back. The vaccines will have to be our salvation as we havenât got the sense God gave a tick.
âI fought the bug and the bug won / I needed money âcause I had none / I fought the bug and the bug won.â Apologies to âI Fought the Law and the Law Wonâ â Music and lyrics by Sunny Curtis (1959).
No children, expanding the March/April closures would not have meant we could have reopened carefully now, because the purpose of those closures was to try to ensure we didnât run out of hospital beds, not eliminate the disease. We still would have this cycle.
What is sadly ironic about this cartoon is that the same thing happened during the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918-1920 as well as earlier plague outbreaks in the 1800âs in Europe- people did what was necessary to get the outbreak under control, then decided they had done enough and reopened in all cases against the advice of the scientists and medical experts of the day and had a second surge that was far worse than the first. Hence my both least and most favorite quote- âThose that ignore history are doomed to repeat it, those that know history are doomed to stand by helplessly while everyone else repeats itâŠ.â
I speculated this would yo-yo for a year. Iâm not even right, just sad.
People learned too late that it is in the air; the air you breathe in and the air you breathe out. Masks that donât fit over the nose (but it keeps slipping, FIX IT!), greedy failing to help the needy, distributing lies as though they were a vaccine.
This wonât be the last, but one of the viruses, someday, may be the end of us. Is this how global civilizations end? In ignorance and disbelief?
Just a reminder, a long learning curve means slow progress. Time is the horizontal axis. This is a great example. Weâre moving with great deliberation.
We have multiple vaccines waiting for distribution, wear the mask and stay 6 feet apart until you get your shot, but business needs to stay open. When you get your second shot, you can take your mask off. If I still had a business, I would give a big discount to every customer that proved they had the shots.
I saw a social media post from a business today that said âNow that a vaccine is available, weâre taking reservations for January.â
I had to wonder whether the business owner realized that the vaccine doesnât do anything until some critical mass of the population has it inside of them (and that ainât happening in 4 weeks).
What is interesting is that if everyone had a year supply of food and such and stay out of debt and have a substantial savings account, as a certain church has told their members for years, we could stay locked down for 6 months. (Some people would still go nuts though)
Had Trump invested the time, effort and money, he spent on the âBig, beautiful, impenetrable wallâ and all his other nonsense around immigrants, on COVID, he would probably still be President. But then if he as smart enough to do that he wouldnât be Trump.
Do you think if we spread the rumor that one of the side affects of surviving Covid 19 is a propensity for same gender attraction it might result in more mask wearing? Such is of course ridiculous and I do not want people thinking that such is unnatural or a disease but those who think this virus is a hoax and that mask wearing is the first step to fascism might be the most ardent mask wearers if they believed something so preposterous.
If our govt had funded the smaller business over the few giant ones people wouldnât be so keen to start things up again. But the Cons only like big business and Plutocrats.
here in japan the geniuses in our government decided to support the travel industry with a discount travel promotion, called âgo to travel,â and then the restaurant industry with a âgo to eatâ campaign. the unsurprising result has been a huge surge in new infections, which my wife and i have named âgo to dieââŠ
Iâm still employed. If we can make it to Christmas with sales of at least 80% of last years for the month of December I will have a fighting chance at staying employed next year
IF all open areas were raining machine gun bulletsâŠâŠâŠâŠ. I find Iâm stuck to dream up an end to this scenario, save for the fact that thereâd be a LOT fewer anti-bullet-proofers in this worldâŠ.
Got that right! Daâ liberals! They are trying their best to destroy this Great Country! Of course, they donât think of it as great because they hate it!
