“Unnerving Murders”! Just what you need for a quiet, pleasant afternoon at home with blankets and cats. My read for Sunday will be Alex White’s A Big Ship at the Edge of the Universe, and, time permitting, at least one of the two sequels (A Bad Deal for the Whole Galaxy and The Worst of All Possible Worlds, in, of course, that order). How about you?
The expression on Elvis’s face in panels 5 and 6 crack me up! Goldie and Puck and Lupin are having a great time …..Elvis, not so much. He looks contented in last panel, reading his book so that’s good news.
My new year’s resolution involves sticking to only one or two books at a time! I’ve always had a problem with finishing a book before starting another, hah hah. I started messing with the Kindle app on my Fire tablet, and then I started rereading The Last Unicorn, one of my very favorite books. ♥
Sounds like my niece. Her spouse will bicycle with the kids around the elementary school and give her some free time. She will call me on some of these occasions. Once… she heard the family come back… but she had some more she wanted to talk to me about. She then tucked herself into a closet for less noise. The squeals and laughter when the kids found her was well worth me clinging to the phone!
They all look so calm and cozy. In my reality, my cats would all be trying to sniff what’s in the cup and snitch what’s on the plate. Instead of reading, I would be constantly saying “No, no! That’s mine!” Gotta love ’em.
A Tommy sighting, a triple toe-bean treat, and the Woman is cuddling with her cats while reading true crime exactly like I do (red hair, reading glasses, blankie, and all)…I feel comforted. In a week when I need comfort. Thank you BCN.
OK, I’m actually going to start a comment (I almost never do).
We’ve got the BCN calendar up, and we can’t figure out what those black things are on the January page — one that Lupin is sleeping on, and one to the side of Elvis. Collapsed hot water bottles? Noisemakers, for some reason in black? What is it?
We’ve figured out the toothpicks from the Tiny Edible Cat Toys, on a plate, and of course the fuzzy blankets everywhere.
That song’s chord progression is the basis of more than half the jazz tunes ever written, not to mention pre-rock pop tunes. You could make a Charlie Parker compilation with nothing but songs based on those chords. Before “Lupin Leaps In,” long before there was “Lester Leaps In,” Lester Young’s signature jam tune.
I’m crocheting this afternoon, with my kitties of course. Don’t need the blankets or fire, as I live in southern New Mexico and it’s warmish today. I’ll be reading tonight: Tony Hillerman’s Navajo murder mysteries. Yum!
Masks, Glasses, and Fogging: There are at least two, possibly three, solutions:
Anti-fogging solutions—usually contain lemon oil, sometimes silicone oil, and generally don’t work or last well.
Anti-fogging compounds—If you can find them, but they don’t seem popular. They are harder to apply than the solutions. But the big difference is that they work, and work even after you dry wipe the lenses with a tissue after they get lightly soiled. I finally found one, and it works. It has a very unfortunate name: “Cat Crap.” Available from www.vseyewear.com. Also a good place to get magnifying clip-ons, sunglasses, UV protective glasses, etc.
Emergency stopgap—saliva. Apply to lenses, wipe completely dry. Old scuba diver’s trick.

How long will it last? Doesn’t matter, you take what you can get! (Knowing the Man, it will be several hours, and that’s not bad!)
