My mother said that we boys couldn’t “do stuff” to ladies, but when our sisters weren’t BEING ladies, it would be okay to treat them as other than ladies… carefully. It mostly worked out okay, though she did get called in to adjudicate (after the fact) pretty often, until we all grew up a bit.
She also was quite likely to rule that any particular problem was BOTH (or ALL) parties’ fault, in which case everyone involved got the same punishment. Even if she REALLY DID start it! :(
I was in elementary school in the 70s and was never paddled. Since this strip occurred between 85 and 95, I’d think that the school admins would be even less likely to break out the “board of education”. :/
Must be an American school where corporal punishment was still legal in 1991. Maybe that’s a reason why more kids bring guns to schools to shoot their teachers than any other nation.
Susie’s saying that a girl’s “heinie” is “more delicate” than a boy’s “heinie” means that boys’ heinies are themselves delicate, but not AS delicate, as girls’ heinies. Is that true and, if so, where did she learn that?
Girls could be paddled at my rural Missouri high school in the early 1970s. In that halcyon era before drugs were a problem, this was most often done for getting caught carrying their boyfriend’s cigarettes or snuff (called “dip”) in their purses. The purses were safe from random searches as long as they were closed, but sometimes things fell out at inopportune times. However, they were only paddled by the female vice principal and then only behind a closed door. Alas, by the mid-1970s, drugs became a problem. Corporal punishment at school ended around that time, but that was for unrelated legal rulings.
We used to get the cane in the 60s. Up to six of the best across the fingers. If you were really bad, six on each hand, if you were really really bad, the cane hit close to the tips. If you AND the teacher were bad, you got the cane palms down.
Heinie previously offensive as used to refer derogatorily to enemy German soldiers by American, French, and British during WW I and often to those of German heritage living in US during WW I.
Know what you mean ! Last time I heard that was in the movie The Enemy Below with Robert Mitchum and Curt Jergens. Jergen’s second mate’s nickname was “heinie” !
The gig’s up now girls. You’ve been running a state-side fanny scam for years. One tear from your eyes, and Principlal Doodad will heiny-wallop Calvin for simply identifying himself as a heiny-scam fact-finder. Oh! The mere dread of it all.
Never ever was paddled in elementary school in early 40s. But when 4 years old I was always in some trouble. When “trouble” happened I either caused it, was watching it, or directing it. One time I really “crossed the line” & my father prepared to spank my bare butt with a Hairbrush. As the brush was raised I turned around & said: “be careful, I’m fragile”. My father put down the hair brush a quickly left.Years later my mother told me the rest of the story. My father was laughing too hard to continue!
As for corporal punishment, look at it this way: You show someone what meanness is, don’t be surprised at how well they’ll eventually learn their lesson.
