People have been telling me life was short for the past 50+ years, and I really wish they’d. It got old after the first couple of weeks. In reality, life is nasty, brutish, and just never seems to end until it’s too late.
Humans are strange creatures. If we’re happy (which is a rare occasion anyway) our brain automatically starts to search for reasons to stop that. Maybe it’s sort of a security valve to keep our heads from exploding.
Rat makes an interesting point. At the beginning of Annie Hall (1977), Woody Allen tells this joke: "two elderly women are at a Catskills mountain resort, and one of ’em says: “Boy, the food at this place is really terrible.” The other one says, “Yeah, I know…and such small portions.”
I modestly claim 50,000 miles of hitchhiking. I learned something from everyone who gave me a ride. Sometimes it was simply ‘I don’t want to be like them’.
I know the past year and a half or more has been pretty much a bummer, but we don’t have to let outside influences (including people) bring us down. Pig might have the right idea.
Poor Cartoon-Boy! The multiple personalities are kicking in today full strength. He has claimed Rat is his alter ego, but clearly today Pig speaks for him…..

Pig should be grateful to Rat for giving him a reason to be happy.

My mother used to warn us that comparisons were invidious. Fortunately “I’m not you” is only sort of a comparison.

There is a reason, Rat: Ignorance is bliss, and nobody’s more ignorant than Pig.

You don’t really expect Rat to be happy about life? I mean, he’s been heartbroken many times and besides, he’s a rat. What’s he got? Five years?

Nah. Good job, pig. Life is what you decide to perceive, for the most part.
