It’s just absinthe for the weak. However, I can say from personal experience you don’t want to vomit absinthe. Moderation in all things, especially if it’s above 100 proof and tastes like black licorice.
Real licorice is only black. Anything else is Red Vine or Red Rope, and they contains no licorice extract. So, calling licorice “Black Licorice” is redundant. Whew! Glad I got that off my chest. I’ll step down off my soapbox now. :)
A pregnant woman once told me that she likes black licorice because it tastes just as good coming back up as it did going down. I’m partial to Good’n’Plenties myself.
If I eat anise, I get heart palpitations. I’m not sure I want to experiment with anise-based liqueurs. Though there are more unpleasant ways to end up in the ER.
Cartoon-Boy takes some self-inflicted punishment for his being a paronomasiac! This could be fun! But as a Greek he should prefer ouzo to pastis. I do, even though not Greek by blood….

You mean he writes those puns sober?

Sounds like that could be a potion from the Wizarding World.

I think the drink Rat’s thinking of in the third panel is called “Beer.”
Baarorso about 3 years ago
I suppose it was PASTIS time to bring that up, Rat? ;D

Add enough Fernet Branca and it’ll kill most of the licorice taste.
kartis about 3 years ago
Pass the pastis, Pastis.
NavalHistorian about 3 years ago
Set up by his own strip. Not sure if that’s a new “low” or a new “high” for Pastis. lol

Like Sambuca maybe? Not really a fan of that taste at all. I’m a bourbon and cognac kind of guy.

American licorice or European? American stuff is for wimps.
scotthtaylor about 3 years ago
No, doesn’t taste like black licorice, or I’d hate it. It’s a unique taste, but very good. Introduced to it by French friends.

So now we’re left wondering: What kind of liquor does cause Mr. Pastis to “spout stupid puns?” (Rat’s words, not mine)

Wait… I haven’t had any of this, yet I’m still a pun-ster. No one’s immune to terrible wordplay…

Black licorice is licorice. In any other flavor, it’s not licorice.

Hmm, and here I thought Pastis had taken the pledge. Maybe he smelled lemony for a different reason.

Pastis with ice-cold water (no ice) was the first apéritif I was offered at my first dinner party when living in France. The louche effect is magical…

So is it pronounced pas-TEEST? Like I thought Stephan’s surname was until I watched him on IG? (and learned his name is PAS-tis, of Greek orignin)
