A box of the correct weight on the floor should work. It has to be heavy enough to hold the door closed but light enough that she won’t complain about having to move it. No matter what you do, she’ll complain.
The problem with the DT solution to this issue is that you have to keep replacing it. When our standup freezer failed this way, we gave it to a friend who installed two cam-lock type fasteners (high and low). That was 10 years ago. I believe he is still using it…
(We have a much more efficient one now, a bit smaller on the outside, but nearly as big inside. Modern insulation is awesome!)
I had to use duct tape to keep our motor home fridge door closed on a trip from Texas to home In Washington. It did a fine job and saved having to wait for parts and time and an appointment while trying to enjoy our remaining journey
We had this trouble with our stove. The drawer below the oven wouldn’t close all the way. My wife wanted to send it back, but I checked it and she had placed a pan lid at an angle such that it prevented the drawer from closing.
I’ve heard of people replacing the rubber gasket on the door when this happens. I doubt I could accomplish so simple a task and would be forced to buy a new fridge.
I would do that, at least, for awhile – until I could figure out how to fix it with what I have or see if something can be ordered online.
Also, first check to see if it just needs to adjusted with the feet/rollers on the bottom of the fridge. If something there is “broken”, prop it up. Most refrigerators should close by gravity.
Earl is obviously a member of the Possum Lodge and true follower of Red Green’s mantra regarding the virtues of duct tape. Likely has said “Quando Omni Flunkus Moritati” (pseudo-Latin for “When all else fails, play dead”). And likely has uttered the phrase, “If the women don’t find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.”
This happens on our freezer, located top-side like this one. When the fridge door closes, the freezer would pop open. It’s been doing that since we bought it and was told not to close the fridge door so hard and it won’t happen. But we use the clear 2" packing tape, not silvery duct tape. I can’t stand duct tape residue!
I just did this last night! I thought about my years as an Odyssey of the Mind parent, coach and finally, judge. I had folk make gowns and tuxes out of Duck tape. Amazing.
My wife is laughing her head off. I just showed her this cartoon. We’re having the same problem with our fridge and that would have been my solution, … if she’d have let me.
In the IMAX movie “Mir” about the first space station, the first thing you see, when coming through the airlock, is a roll of duct tape on a wire hook.
Love the fancy patterned decorative vduct tape versions so popular today, but doubt that they are apprciatd by the duct tape purists. (My stash is black, white and silver)

I know it’s a comic strip, but when they get a little wear, the gasket can get funky and won’t work.
