I bet a lot of us didn’t even know who Paul Gauguin was before we read this strip.

Hell, I had to look him up myself to see if he was a real person and not just someone Bill made up.

How can Calvin even begin to pronounce Paul’s last name? I’ve been reading it off and on for decades and I can’t reliably pronounce it!

Gaugin was a painter. I bet he was too busy frolicking with his Tahitian models to philosophise.

Paul Gaugin was brilliantly played by Anthony Quinn (who won the Oscar as Best Supporting Actor) in the film LUST FOR LIFE, starring Kirk Douglas as Van Gogh—his best performance< IMO!!

A really well rounded education can be compared to this statement:

Education is a progressive discovery of our own ignorance. -Will Durant, historian (1885-1981)

Corollary: Maturity is the result of our eventual acknowledgment of our own ignorance in our earlier years and the realization of our incredible good fortune in being able to look back and be improved by the experience. 2018

Is anyone watching Jeopardy? That Canadien girl is really something. I got spoken to yesterday, for yelling answers at the TV. Oh well, such is the exuberance of youth.

In someways Paul Gaugin lived the life that Calvin might aspire to….run away from a middle class life, job & family. Move to Tahiti, sleep with girls way too young & paint as you like..
