Alas, after someone DOES improve the gene pool, we have to spend many many person-hours cleaning up the mess, recovering the body and the vehicle, replacing the guard rails, tending to the injured (if any survived) and going to public meetings about signage. Not to mention the fact that quite a lot of the deaths are caused by but do not happen to the people who OUGHT to reap the Darwinian reward. We ârecentlyâ had an incident of a big freight truck that passed on a blind corner forcing another vehicle off the road. A vehicle that had a running dash cam. Scared the bejesus out of me and I was watching a TV set! They did eventually catch the truck driver.
In the good old days we didnât have white edge lines on roads, that many four lane roads, rural speed limits were higher, cars didnât have air bags or safety glass. It was a time when men were men and traffic deaths were much higher.
Thereâs a spot on the Beartooth Highway thatâs kind of like this. The highway is mostly in Montana, but dips into Wyoming for a little ways. Each state positions their speed limit at the border on every state highway, so thereâs the speed limit sign right at the border. Thing is, one of those is not too terribly far from a 35 MPH sign and a switchback turn, and all this near the top of the pass so youâre like 11,000 feet above sea level and your engine isnât very happy due to the lack of oxygen. So if you do manage to reach the first speed limit, youâd really better be paying attention to the next one, or Darwin will definitely be enforcing it. :-D
Darwinism works for me ⊠effectively weeding out the ones who need the likes of the Highway Patrol because they donât have the capacity or desire to behave rationally and responsibly, either toward themselves or society.
Speeders and drunk drivers would be alot less of a problem if they just killed themselves, the trouble Iâd that they usually take someone else out with them.

My grandfather died peacefully in his sleepâŠhis passengers died a horrible, screaming death, as his car plunged over the cliff.

Who needs the Highway Patrol when you have Charles Darwin.

They count on the circling vultures to find bodies after a period of time. Vultures work cheap â for food.

I was cruisinâ in my Stingray late one night
When an XKE pulled up on the right
And rolled down the window of his shiny new Jag
And challenged me then and there to a drag
I said, "Youâre on, buddy, my millâs runninâ fine
Letâs come off the line now, at Sunset and Vine
But Iâll throw you one better if youâve got the nerve
Letâs race all the way to Dead Manâs Curve"
Dead Manâs Curve, itâs no place to play
Dead Manâs Curve, you best keep away
Dead Manâs Curve, I can hear âem say
Wonât come back from Dead Manâs Curve

Um ⊠thereâs no speed warning sign. Negotiate the bend at your own risk (and hope to survive).

In Virginia, the signs read âSpeed Checked by Aircraft.â I can imagine a squadron of A-10âs circling overhead, ready to strafe speeders.
