Bernice needs to calm down. Luann can change the real name of anyone she uses for her story. It’s done all the time.

I still feel she’s wasting her time entering that joke of a contest. One’s with such a small reward are used to harvest emails and then they legally own every story they’re sent. All that for $50??

Luann needs to find her true calling. I don’t think it will be writing.

I still can see Luann getting into acting as a profession.. does anyone else?

Luann is really pulling Bernie’s chain for the past couple of weeks. It’s good to see the tables turned for once.

“Write what you know” someone once said that, or something like that, and it’s obvious Luann knows Bernice

Less talking. more writing. Also stuff a sock in Bernice’s mouth. Preferable an old and smelly one.

It’s funnier just to watch these two butt heads.

Remind me again why Bernice and Luann are BFFs.

But, but, but…

Bernice The Muse is able to give great advices, but then she ends up ruining it by giving it for the worst motivation. Personal humor is the best, it’s true and Luann needs to see how funny she is and write about herself. But at the same time Bernice is telling it with not hiding the big purpose of not being her the but of the joke, AND she stops explaining it calmly to scream it out! Bernice still has a lot to learn to become a perfect muse, but at least she’s trying.

Bernice take a chill pill girl.

The bottom line: “You be the butt!”

So, quietly, Greg points out the difficulty of writing this stuff year after year……….while,having a total success improving his drawing style. So let’s see a few more of those Tiffany in the shower episodes.

Time for Luanne to break the third wall. We’re the observers and opinionators for her. But really, it’s not that kind of strip. That would be a Lio or Pearls action.

Bernice, get over yourself!

Comedian Bobby Slayton once said “If you can’t laugh at yourself, make fun of other people”.

Yep. Dark side…Luann’s continued making fun of others rather than herself. Because SHE is not funny. THAT’S why she recorded to talk how funny other people were because she was not interesting or funny. Talking about things that were funny was her entertainment. But what OTHERS will find funny in her recording are the ones she moaned about Aaron’s lack of attention to her and more on her nemesis, Tiffany. That was not funny to Luann but others would find that funny. Or pathetic. Because she never got why Aaron never paid attention to her. At least I got it when Tommy was oblivious about me – he was not interested in me. But the funny thing about young girls – they’re always hopeful. When we were all grown up and college-aged, he told me he liked talking to me as opposed to the other girls who were flirty and talked about nonsense. We ended up dating for a short time. That was during our summer break. We parted and returned to our colleges in different states. Never saw him again. He died at age of 52, unmarried and childless. The most popular guy at my school achieved that status when he died. He had nobody. I felt so sad for him.

Okay, so a quick recap here for those that lost track. Luann plays a tape where Luann is embarrassed, and Bern laughs at it. Luann got angry and Bern in an effort to save face back peddled and was all “I’m not laughing at you… okay well I am, but you are funny you should totally enter a joke contest” but now whenever Luann thinks of anything that would result in people laughing at Bern, Bern gets offended.

It’s ALMOST like Bern NEEDS Luann to laugh at Luann so that Bern doesn’t feel so bad about laughing at Luann. But she doesn’t want her “friend” to laugh at her.

It would be wonderful if the reason Luann kept picking the funny events that made Bern the butt of a joke was because Luann was intentionally trying to give Bern a taste of her own medicine, and she didn’t actually care at all about this joke contest. Seriously, why IS Luann invested in the contest? She’s only doing it because Bern suggested it… you know that friend that JUST laughed at her… why is Luann taking her advice?

Seriously the only way this whole thing makes sense is if Luann is only playing along with the joke contest thing JUST to tweak at Bern’s nose a bit.

Hot Dog! Bernice actually agrees with me. I said the same thing just yesterday.

Indeed, write it down. Book needs some excitement and certainly getting a reaction from Bernice. I can’t imagine, though, a full book coming out of these diary misadventures. More likely short stories and anecdotes.

I see Luann writing a comic strip called Bernice or Luann.

Bernice is the butt all right, butt head

Bernice: “Luann, I insist that you be degraded and embarrassed in your story!”

But… but… but….but… butt… butt… butt….!

This panel set made me laugh out loud when I first read it, great set-up to logically appropriate punch line. For my money the “butt” should include her funny, confused, life in and of Luannverse, Luannverse itself being the “butt.”

Bernice just wants Luann to humiliate herself. That way, she will always feel superior to her.

Zzzzz…

Does anyone else find it odd or amusing, that Bernice, a budding young “Counselor-in-training” / Therapist, whom one would think is trained in trying to get people to think better of themselves, is in reality attempting to get Luann into a practice of self abasement???

Wait a second, Bernice.

“Not week has gone by that Luann hasn’t done something, funny?”

Well, how about that week when Luann broke up with her then boyfriend? And she was bawling her eyes out when YOU burst in and falsely accused Pru of destroying the relationship? “Funny,” huh?

Or the time you and Delta went on a road trip without Luann and spent a good part of the time badmouthing her before the cops pulled you over?

Or that time YOU broke up with YOUR boyfriend but Luann and stuck by Your side the whole time?

Or when You we’re homeless, and the DeGroots took you in, and when Luann tried to pal around, you pretty much slammed the door in her face?

All “Laugh Riots,” right?

And then there was time that your long lost brother Ben who was still in the army, first came home for a visit, and you thought Luann was making a play for him? As I recall, you didn’t think that was “funny” at all.

You know what would be funny? If Luann dropped you and her new best friends became Bets and Tiffany.

Now, more than ever, PUT LUANN IN MOONEY U!!!

I can’t tell if Luann is purposely teasing Bernice are not. If it’s on purpose then I really like how she’s pretending to be clueless as she turns the tables on Bernice and hope she does this with other people in the strip.

Writing is tough and Luann can’t even figure out whose butt to write about.

I think Luann’s confirmation bias filter prevents considering the type of humor Bernice is suggesting.

Pick the butt that’s cutest, Luann.

Is Luann just clueless here to Bernice’s point, or, intentionally clueless?

But butt…….

Every stand up comic on the planet earns his or her living commenting on the human condition – what other people are doing along with the funny things that happen to them, both in public and private settings, All of it involves making fun of other people. If Bernice gets any more desperate to keep herself out of this story she might make those tapes and tape deck disappear.

Ya know, this whole arc has had a lot of drag. I am so ready to move on.You might think GnK would allow some personal growth for these characters.Butt no-o-o!

I don’t think Bernice means that Luann did something humorous every week. I think Bernice means that she made fun of Luann every week.

This whole line is ludicrous. Time to move on.

Wow are they really going to argue over who has or is the biggest butt?

This strip was a lot funnier when Luann was central to it because we enjoyed seeing the world through her eyes. We enjoyed the ups and downs of her teen years because we could empathize with her. This PROVES Berniece is correct in her assumption that the BEST writing Luann can do is to focus on HERSELF. Sure, we laughed at her sometimes but we sympathized with her and enjoyed this glimpse of life through her eyes. Things such as Frank drooling did not make this strip funny or entertaining——it was Luann herself who did. If this is the kind of thing she thinks she needs to write about she is way off base and needs to just quit while she is ahead. I enjoyed her bit of verse because it was about HER. That was good writing. I do think these two should part ways though. Let Luann move to Moony Uni and make new friends. This “friendship” has outlived its usefulness. Maybe Berniece could transfer somewhere else. At the very least she needs to move out of Luann’s house.

Easier to laugh with someone laughing at himself or herself.

The REAL argument starts when Luann asks Berniece to do a live re-enactment of the “toilet stall incident”.

Just for ACCURACY’S SAKE,NOTHING ELSE.

Oooooh. Someone’s sensitive..

You know what I’d like to see? A situation in which Luann and Bernice are actually enjoying being with each other, as best friends should. No snark from Bernice, no clueless “me-me-me” from Luann. Just two young women having fun at the mall, or the movies, or the coffee shop. Can’t they ever agree on anything? Stories may need conflict, but for once I’d like to see them stick up for each other, sympathize and offer comfort if needed, and really appreciate each other’s presence in their lives. Is that too much to ask?

Sheesh! How dumb is this blonde?! Will Luann ever get a clue? Will she even mature?

Luann was at her best with the little kids. She enjoyed what she did. She even enjoys tutoring, though she doesn’t understand how to do it properly. With the right preparation, Luann could be a great teacher.

So, Bern can “burn” others, but cannot stand the heat herself.

“Bern the Butt”…I think it’s catchy.

Just butt out.
