Yet everywhere man goes, animals are there first.

What, Rin-Tin-Tin doesn’t count as an animal explorer?

People do things because they’re hard. Calvin does it because he’s Calvin.

Really like Cal’s expression in last panel, even though his words read as if he’s calmly weighing his statement.

Grim Reaper gorge? I wonder if Hobbes saw a certain wolf down there…

Personally, I would’ve called the ridge “Grim Reaper” and the gorge “Rigor Mortis”. One follows the other, after all.

This is another strip which shows that Watterson saw Hobbes as being less human than Calvin. He explained in his second paragraph on Hobbes in “The Calvin and Hobbes Tenth Anniversary Book” that he saw Hobbes as more animal than human but had to give him some human traits and that he based Hobbes’s animal side on his pet cats.

It can’t be that bad if the route doesn’t have a “Dead Man’s Curve”.

Rigor Mortis Ridge. Nice. We had a sledding hill called Pretzel Hill, named after the shape your body resembled after a descent.

    I have two sons.

One of them said, “I wonder what would happen if we did X?”

The other said, “Let’s do X and see what happens.”

We usta yell Geronimo! …. but you can’t do that anymore.

We went down some killer hills. Funny, when you go back as an adult, they seem so tame.

When my kids were young, we went sledding on snow covered sand dunes near Lake Michigan…it’s a miracle that there were no serious injuries.

Not sure what, but somethings afoot. I’ve been back to some of the sites of youthful daring-do, only to find them shrunken to mere bumps and ditches.

As far as I know the astronauts who walked on the moon never saw any animals. (All the moon landing deniers can skip this comment).

    “Rigor Mortis Ridge” ?

    “Grim Reaper Gorge”?

Reminds me of the island of Cascara… “Calamity Cove”, “Point Peril”, “Desolation Bay”, Mount Pestilence"…

Because animals face death every day, and are smart enough to try to avoid it.

    .

Humanity, having murdered almost everything capable of killing it (aside from itself, but they’re working on that), has forgotten that fear of death, and stupidly seeks to experience it.
