The seldom-seen Joe makes an appearance! Now that Anders is revealed not to have died, he could prove useful, though maybe not so much while he’s in critical condition. Tracy watching the news on his laptop screen brings a contemporary vibe that some readers were missing.
It looks like Joe’s grown a little since we last saw him. I like his mod haircut. Shelley’s artwork is incredible today. I really like the last panel in particular and the shadowing looks good.
So they’re trying to update the strip by having the news of Anders being shot yesterday in the form of a headline on a tablet and today we see Dick seeing the news report on his laptop. Where previously the strip would’ve shown the news view a newspaper and a TV respectively.
Things are dull in Tracyville if a wounding gets that much coverage. Tracy is fortunate to be head of the MCU in a city with so little major crime, months go by with only one case at a time. (And some of those are cases that MCUs in other cities wouldn’t have time to handle.)
Of course it may have been a murder, and this is a trap as some have suggested. But that would suggest that Wendy Wichel might be helping set it up. And my first thought, on glancing at today’s strip before reading it, was that Wendy would be accusing Tracy of having shot that schmuck Anders.
Why is Tracy watching Wendy’s newscast on his computer? Doesn’t he have an up to date flat screen system from Diet Smith? And, I thought Wendy Witchel was an nationally syndicated “news” personality. Why is she anchoring a local newscast?
It’s nice to see the Argos receptionist again, this time wearing pink. Her previous appearances were here:

I see there’s now a fourth cute “girl in green” behind her, probably another one-time character who will disappear forever along with “Susan’s” co-worker and the woman using the cell phone:
1-WINDY WENCH: With every shooting in Tracyville, we edge closer to the record set on Normandy Beach on June 6, 1945. We have Ham Bone on the scene to try to develop interest in what has become an every minute occurrence in this town…
2- HAM BONE: Well, the shooter had ample opportunity to take out other employees here but didn’t…
3- …so that’s an unusual win. I guess.
4- REA CEPTONIST: I heard the shot. It was only one! I can’t believe in this day of extended magazines that the shooter would only fire once. I guess his gun jammed or something.
5-MEANWHILEDT: YIKES! KNOCK BEFORE YOU COME IN! JOE: Oh, come on, Dad! You know we get a computer virus every time you go to that BABES WITH BADGES website and then I have to fix it. And yuck. I don’t need to see what you’re tryin’ to hide with your right hand!
DT: This would appear to be a good time to tell you about the Birds and the Bees
And another episode of “As the Stomach Turns” Passes by. But, the Hall of Fame entry sounds exciting, more so than anything that has transpired in the strip for a month or ten
In this arc Susan looks (and acts) like the old Sprocket Nitrate. Not at all like when we had last seen her. She will need to backtrack a bit if she risks meeting Lafeyette Adams.
Holy Tracyville, ruse-lovers! Either Anders really is still alive though in critical condition, or (as has already been suggested above, and by avenger09, no less) he is dead fish dead as most of us have thought, and the popo has deliberately let out some false information in hopes of luring out the original perp.
I would relish the thought of Tracy deceiving Wendy Wichel, gossip-monger/“news” anchor/vitriolic opponent of Tracy, for SBN-TV, though I feel some sympathy for Handy Mann, co-anchor/street reporter, who resembles and calls to mind not a few I’ve seen on the small screen over the years.
And, finally, one new addition to the cast of this errant epic I don’t mind seeing is young (but no longer a mere child) Joe Tracy, who calls Dad to dinner from his laptop review of the nightly SBN news (though Dick must have a touch of a masochistic streak to watch his tart-tongued public foe in her witch’s hat rather than some other newscast)….

Anders looked to grab a slice and gobble up more pie
Greed did get the best of him. Seems likely he will die.
Anticipate some blowback when you pull on trouble’s tail
Leave the straight and narrow to find bullets, blood, and jail.
Madsen ventilated him. A mess for EMTs
Stench the flow. Transfuse a quart. They see plenty of these.
Wichel slick. Click bait so quick to pump up viewership
Handy Mann does what he can to see numbers don’t dip.
It bleeds it leads. There is no need to wait long for more gore
Today another victim. Tomorrow will see more.

Anders is dead.
It’s just a well worn “make them come to the hospital to finish the job” ploy.
Mike must be too busy with furry animals to come up with something original.

Wonder if that’s the same hospital Steelface went to. If so, I sure hope Anders doesn’t need an MRI.

Joe has wavy Black hair—-who’s the imposter??
And after 45 years in Tracytown,NOTHING should surprise Wendy WIchel—that face seems like she’s never covered a murder case before.
HE DIDN’T DIE!! Great, now it’s a race to kill Anders beforeone of the other two guys kills each other.
And how does Spikehair miss Anders point blank???
