Just peachy Pig! Although, (sadly) how many bookstores are left in any town?

I remember staying at the Peachtree Plaza Hotel when I went to Atlanta for a conference back in 1981. It was just peachy (sorry couldn’t help myself).

We recently adopted a rescue Dobe from a horrible puppy mill/abuse/hoarder case in Georgia (NOT indicative of the people in Georgia!.) The rescue we adopted him from named all the Dobes after peaches. There were 51 Dobes rescued and the rescue we went to took in 29. I did not know there are over 2,000 varieties of peaches!

I can help. It’s ‘Peachtree’ something. That’ll narrow down the possible list.

They ran out of Pearls books when I got the signing, so I bought the Looking Up book.

They must love their peaches down in the ATL.

Always an optimist, though everyone knows that Pig is destined to become a ham sandwich.

Now, if Steph was doing his book signing at the Clermont Lounge, he’d get a lot more guys buying his books!

Great shoutout to one of Atlanta’s famous landmarks.

I’ve got a friend who runs a small science-fiction specialty bookstore. He’s been doing it for about half a century now. He used to lament the competition from the mall chains, B. Dalton and WaldenBooks. But then they got wiped out by the stand-alone big-box stores, Borders and Barnes & Noble. They they got undercut by Amazon. The good news is that this left the field wide open for the little guys in the boutique and specialty biz, like used books, comics, collectables, foreign-language, etc.

 The 6 greatest bargains in America:

 1) sunshine

 2) fresh air

 3) clean water

 4) public libraries

 5) public schools

 6) US Postal Service

This is no exaggeration. Half the streets in Atlanta are called “Peach” or “Peachtree” or “Peach Something Else.” A friend of mine once chit hopelessly lost among all the Peach streets.

I love the Clermont Lounge shirt. That place is a classic.

Here we go again. The book tour thing will never end.

I’m guessing he got the t-shirt after leaving jail, in the lost-and-found bin.

So why does Stephan have a tee shirt advertising Clemont Lounge? There ain’t no books there! :-)

According to sources, there are 71 streets in Atlanta with “peachtree” in the name.

Statewide, Peachtree isn’t even in the top 10 of street names.

One oddity about Atlanta—at the Atlanta Hilton,there’s a famous rooftop Russian restaurant—-and it opened when t he Cold War wasstill on and everything probably had to be imported a high cost.

And don’t forget Mary Mac’s.

He is correct. I think I was at the crossroads of Peach and Peach once when I was visiting.

Now a days more books are probably sold in supermarkets than bookstores, especially the type of books Steph writes. So maybe he better start doing supermarket signings.

That baloney got me and my rental car good and lost on my first meeting there. Fortunately, the Disaster Recovery Institute changed their conferences from Atlanta in August to San Diego and Orlando in winter.

Oh My God, I can’t unsee the dancers at Claremont Lounge!!!!!

Well he found his way to the Clermont Lounge (see his t-shirt)….it is Atlanta’s first and longest continually operating strip club, opened in 1965 and boasts a completely female ownership (wikipedia). :)

Isn’t that peachy. Murphy’s Law at work.

What, what’s the yellow pages? Okay, Store locator. Yelp. Something like that.

This whole “book tour” storyline, in which Pastis has included himself as a character, is very self-indulgent.

Steph is short for Stephanie. Steve is short for Stephen.

the better part is.. once you leave the city boundaries, the peach names are all reused.
