I spent many a year being a moderate Republican until the party left me and I became a moderate independent. Was never a registered Democrat (unlike Trump and for that matter Reagan.) I hope people therefore understand me, when I say, in reply to this toon: YEPPERS.
Conservatives complain about people living in poverty getting “free stuff” while handing out trillions in tax breaks to billionaires and international corporations.
Wherever they’ve managed to gerrymander themselves into power, conservatives are reacting to these inconvenient truths by rewriting or banning history books, or banning the teaching of American history.
They are also wrong about abortion, climate change, guns, the economy and who gets the freedom to love whomever they want. But we will spend decades more fighting to get to where we should be now (or should have been decades ago), instead of moving forward, god forbid, together.
From The West Wing political debate, Jimmy Smits played Matt Santos and Alan Alda played Arny Vector ( He said he’s played murders, so playing a conservative Republican shouldn’t be too much of a stretch)
MS:“I know you like to use that word ‘liberal’ as if it were a crime.”
AV: “No. I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have used that word. I know Democrats think liberal is a bad word. So bad you had to change it. What do you call yourselves now, progressives? Is that it?”
MS: “It’s true. Republicans have tried to turn liberal into a bad word. Well, liberals ended slavery in this country.”
AV: “A Republican President ended slavery.”
MS: “Yes, a liberal Republican, Senator. What happened to them? They got run out of your party. What did liberals do that was so offensive to the liberal party? I’ll tell you what they did. Liberals got women the right to vote. Liberals got African-Americans the right to vote. Liberals created Social Security and lifted millions of elderly people out of poverty. Liberals ended segregation. Liberals passed the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act. Liberals created Medicare. Liberals passed the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act. What did conservatives do? They opposed them on every one of those things ¬ every one. So when you try to hurl that label at my feet, ‘Liberal,’ as if it were something to be ashamed of, something dirty, something to run away from, it won’t work, Senator. Because I will pick up that label and I will wear it as a badge of honor.”
I AM NOT A DEMOCRAT! Nor for that matter am not a Republican (that party’s dead and buried after the events of Jan. 6th 2020 – RIP GOP! Heil the POT – Party of Trump), nor a Libertarian. I have no party affiliation but am proud to say that I AM A LIBERAL!!!
Make of that what you will. I proudly support democracy and will resist to my dying day totalitarianism, fascism, and any type of social oppression and bigotry. I will vote for anyone who is opposed to the Wannabe Dictator and his brand of MAGA Fascism. If that means voting for a Democrat candidate, so be it!
Chloe Cole. In the rush to embrace every child choosing their own gender, Chloe’s teachers, therapist and party politicians mandated that she be given everything she wanted to charge her gender identity. She is in constant pain, can not enjoy sex and will not bear children. No one told her about these consequences. She states that she has deeper problems with self-worth that surgery and hormones wouldn’t and did not fix. In response, trans activists denounce and threaten her. Her doctors and teachers shun her. Progressive news outlets and politicians will not help her, so she is chuted into conservative spaces to tell her story. She did not fall through the cracks because of a lack of resources, she and her parents were told that her hormone therapy and surgery had to happen or she would kill herself. Policy made this happen.Do I personally know Chloe Cole? No. But I know two people like her with identical stories, whose names I cannot use because I honor their privacy. This is not a liberal story, by the way, but a progressive story. Liberals would not let this happen. Liberals would have done all they could to hear her and heal her and after years of extensive therapy, if she still wanted the surgery, would have made it so.Progressives have appropriated the “liberal” banner. If a policy harms even one person, the that policy is flawed. In this case, the harm is denied and those harmed are denounced.… I don’t argue with any often points made here in the strip. They’ve been carefully curated. They are a fraction of the true picture. This strip encourages readers to leave their critical thinking faculties at the door and shout My Party Always! It doesn’t matter which party you champion if all you do is see the party and not the issues. If all you do is see the party and not each person the party impacts.
It is refreshing to see a cartoon that unabashedly supports liberalism rather than having it part of a debate with a conservative who puts it down for half of the strip.
Impressive! By avoiding the names of political parties, Ruben managed not to trigger the ‘Dems-are-the-party-of-slavery’ crowd. Expected to see those Dinesh D’Souza acolytes in droves….
Their dad isn’t bad, merely easily fooled. Since public and private schools are very parsimonious with the facts of history. And teaching civics is right out.
“Conservatives are not necessarily stupid, but most stupid people are conservative. … I believe that is so obviously and universally admitted a principle that I hardly think any gentleman will deny it. Suppose any party, in addition to whatever share it may possess of the ability of the community, has nearly the whole of the stupidity, that party must, by the law of its construction, be the stupidest party; and I do not see why honourable gentlemen should see that position as at all offensive to them, for it ensures their being always an extremely powerful party. … There is so much dense, solid force in stupidity, that any body of able men with that force pressing behind them may ensure victory in many a struggle, and many a victory the Conservative party has gained through that power.” — John Stuart Mill
Congratulations, Ruben. TtDB has finally reached the level of agitprop previously only seen in Chick tracts or Ben Garrison’s oeuvre of shlock. Guess that’s what an election year does to people.
I feel I must say that Pacifist convictions, such as those expressed by Bertrand Russell in the early part of the 20th Century, are liberal sentiments which, at certain times, seem to be missing the immediate importance of intervention.
There’s a difference between saying “The war in Europe is none of our concern” and “We should not participate in war for any cause.”
We needed to intervene in 1917, and we needed to intervene in 19r4.
Except that conservatives will argue, at least those that don’t rebut in the form of their own made-up “alternate facts”, that they were right, but outnumbered.
Libertarians will argue to this day that, had FDR just allowed the free market to correct itself, the Great Depression would have been over in a matter of months and not need a war economy to end it. Of course, there would have been even higher unemployment, misery and even mass starvation, but eggs will be broken, etc etc.

liberals are often wrong, conservatives are always wrong, and leftists have no political power in ‘merica, so their opinions don’t even matter.
But capitalism still sucks.
