Argh! I have never liked ātraditionā as the answer to why people do something. My response is: āIt used to be traditional to kill the first-born; you were the first-born, right?ā To date, only two people to whom Iāve said that have gotten the joke.
Iāve been told this but canāt get my mind around this.. (as long as you fold according to your closet dimensions like Earl was reminded yesterday). How could volume vary? Could a mathematician help me?
I remember a story where a woman always cut off the end of a roast before cooking it. Her husband asked her why she did that and the answer was because her mom had always did it. He asked why she did it. The woman didnāt know so she called her mom. Mom replied ābecause it wouldnāt fit in her pan without cutting.ā
That doesnāt really make sense. Think of it this way. If you place cubic-shaped items together, like boxes, they fit together tightly so there are no spaces, If you place cylinders together, there are spaces. Wasted space. But Iām only an engineer, so what do I know?
You find all kinds of really marginally useful ideas on the Internet. No one is going to mention how all the towels will roll off the shelf when you open the cabinet. Oh, no.

So, the one time Earl is helping out, and Opal is complaining?
Oh, what a world

Agree, I think almost every service made us do that in basic training, you only get so much space! (Army, Navy, AF etc)

Itās a good way to store towels if you have a lot of them. I only have a few, so they live on my towel rack.

So is there an alternate solution for fitted bottom sheets, which I find absolutely impossible to neatly fold or store?

And now that Opalās here
And so I roll my final towel
My friend Iāll make it clear
Iāll state my case, which brought a scowl
The hamper basketās full
I folded each and every which-way
But still sheāll just get pissed
And do it HER way

I roll my towel, handtowel, washcloth sets and store them in an old-fashioned steamer trunk. They are easier to store and pull out that way.
