When someone calls a cell phone that is turned off, the caller doesn’t get a ring sound.

Over here in China, the cellphone service provider “helpfully” informs the person calling you “The user’s phone is powered off”.

I once forwarded my phone to my lady wife’s – to be certain it worked – and neglected to unforward it.

I found out the next day when she told me my line was always busy – and had gone to voicemail . . .

Try throwing your phone into a lake. And if that doesn’t work, throw her into a lake

So Earl was right too! But there won’t be any convincing Opal of that or of the fact that she clearly drives her daughter crazy calling her constantly

    Some of these days

    You’ll miss your mommy

    Some of these days

    You’ll feel so lonely

    .

    You’ll miss my hugging

    You’ll miss my kisses

    You’ll miss me, honey

    When I go away

    And when I leave here

    Your grief will be severe

    You’ll miss your poor mommy

    Some of these days

    .

I vividly remember not answering my Mom’s call one time because I was not in the mood to talk to her. Of course since she’s gone I would give anything to have that chance again.

My FIL called us constantly, so we’d answer about half the time. He was retired, bored, and had nothing but time on his hands, whereas we were way too busy with our jobs and raising kids.

This is almost as bad as Marie, Frank and Robert “making themselves at home” in Raymond’s home all the time. I never want to be close enough to my parents than at least an hour’s drive.

Someone once said you should live 1,000 miles from your parents. When I drove to visit them, it was 1,003 miles! Worked very well.

I have a friend who doesn’t answer or respond to phone messages or texts in a short time. BUT if I don’t get back to her immediately I sure hear about it.

With me I worry about my kids! That won’t stop no matter how far they move. Kids don’t feel same way towards parents though. They think about us!

Mom, I am cleaning the house would you like to help … the vibrating vacuum is loud and I couldn’t feel or hear your call? You can start on the basement, and please don’t forget the crawl space.

I would never just go to my daughter’s house without her knowing. Neither of us are open to drop-ins. If she’s out and wants to call and see if I am home for a visit, that’s fine. Her life is very hectic, and I would never impose. My mom expected me to visit her at her home every single day, usually more than once. I was working full time, a divorced mother, had 5 pets, and she wanted me to be there daily and do most of her shopping, too. Never asked for anything if I called, but as soon as I was home, she needed something. I was also working on a master’s degree at the time. This was pre-cell phone. My parents have both been gone since before people carried cell phones. My dad had an early version car phone that was attached inside the car. The calls were charged by the minute.
