As an avid reader and commentator on GoComics, I am deeply disappointed by the recent decision to remove comments on political cartoons. This move silences a vital part of the community—our voices. Rather than shutting down discussions, GoComics should invest in better moderation tools to foster respectful dialogue.
A big shout-out and yay to Ruben Bowling and his comic strip “Tom the Dancing Bug” for being one of the surviving platforms that still allows reader input. I urge fellow readers and cartoonists to express their support for reinstating comments. Let’s advocate for an improved platform that values our input and encourages thoughtful discourse. Together, we can ensure our voices are heard and respected.
Feel free to post this on relevant forums and social media platforms to gather support!
Call me cynical, a conspiracy fantasist, or simply crazy but … the attempted Trump Assassination struck me as being too well orchestrated – the near-miss, the dead shooter, the inexplicable collateral damage, etc. It was something out of a Grade B Hollywood movie – including the minor flesh wound that could have been covered with a simple band-aid rather than his great white badge of courage.
A question asked elsewhere this morning and my reply: “Why are Democrats still afraid they won’t beat this total dweeb?”
Because the system is actually rigged in the Republican’s favor? Besides, what would change if/when the Democrats won? It is obvious to me that Trump has been running a shadow government in parallel with the legitimately elected one. I woke up this morning thinking that Biden should relinquish the presidency to Harris immediately and she use presidential immunity to crush this widespread lawless insurrection. I don’t think there will be a chance afterward unless the Dems win and do this as the winners as these extremist right wingers are not going to just disappear. The Dems are in office now, so what not act now? I know this sounds paranoid, but it looks more and more to me like the extremists are planning an armed insurrection if they still lose, even after all the rigging they have done in their favor. Of course, just my opinion.
When ThereWentComics decided to ban comments on the political toons, they asked for feedback. Of course, I knew it would be a bot reply, but I went ahead and called their decision “cowardice on steroids”, which, of course, it is. I’m surprised that comments are allowed HERE, and wonder how long that will last. As for the Godawful Obsolete Party, if there are ANY patriotic members left in it, they must denounce Traitor Trump as the worthless piece of walking manure that he is.
Overt racist (soon to be President) Good guy with gun (oddly not allowed in the door this year) ‘Moderate’ Republican (contemplation a move to ‘no affiliation’ right after he goes on the run to California) Hungarian observer (lifetime member of the Victor Orban Fan Club)
I couldn’t find any picture of the virtue signaling, trump worshiping ear bandage in the cartoon. I guess it’s tough to parody a parody of human behavior.
@Godfreydaniel: “I’m surprised that comments are allowed HERE, and wonder how long that will last.”
My observation is that the GoComics folks — at whatever level — are consistent in not thoroughly thinking through whatever they’ve “thought” of doing.
In this case, they are not banning “political” comments. They have banned all comments of any sort on cartoons that they have previously classified as “political”. And note my emphasis on “cartoons”. They seem to have exempted — failed to consider? — comic strips which are consistently political. And I suspect that that’s why “Tom the Dancing Bug” still allows comments: they have it classified it as a “comic strip” rather than a “cartoon”.
Contemplate the 2016 convention for Grumpy Old Palefaces. Cleveland will never live it down. The old tub emerging from the lit-up chemical fog, Giuliani all hysterical — it can never get worse than this, I thought; perhaps a matter of taste, which we don’t look for in these yahoos. Right in tune with coming down the gold escalator in a building with his name on it — something that couldn’t happen outside an Ayn Rand novel.Nobody can agree on when America was so great, but they Made America Ridiculous Again
For those of you who lamented the fate of America after the debate debacle, remember my admonition a few weeks ago, that “a lot could happen before August 19th”.
Yesterday’s events proved me right! Joe Biden showed us again that he puts the country first, above his own aspirations, and gracefully stepped aside. Democracy stands a good chance of staving off the convicted con man and his MAGA cult in November. The Prosecutor vs. The Criminal!

This American Life did an episode covering the craziness at the RNC in 2004. It was brilliant but, by today’s standards, kind of quaint.

I saw trump’s dumb speech on the Leftist Mafia podcast. It went on forever and it was just the same ol’ spit.

At first I thought the text by the fox read “recreational sex predator” and thought of Gatze.

It took 40+ years of chipping away, but it’s apparent the Purge within the Republican Party is now complete.

Don’t miss today’s Two Party Opera. We can’t comment on GoComics, but, for those willing to use their real name, there are other places to comment.

The RINO ( aka RNC – Retrumplican Nominating Committee ) Convention certainly was, as Ruben so aptly depicted, an “Animal Farm”.
