Just a friendly reminder. If you haven’t already done so, please click over to Sunday’s BCN (now that it’s finally appeared) and at least click the “like” button. It’s sad to see such a great comic with so few likes just because it was tardy to the party.
I now have 12 swallowtail ‘cats’ in an enclosure in the house and 11 have chrysalized. I’m waiting for one more to change. They’ll go in the garage to over winter then eclose in the spring. They were so big and fat and I didn’t want the crows to find them so I hope they all do well. Ahhh Autumn.
2 weeks ago, I was helping a customer at my job(large retail, garden section) when a baby squirrel, came walking up the aisle! Where did you come from? I jokingly asked. The cute lil’ thing came to my foot, looked up at me and climbed up my leg! Carefully, I peeled him off me and put him into a box, on a shelf and told him I need to help this customer(who was laughing!) first! I went back to helping the customer, when she said, He’s back! I turn around, and he’s running toward me! Up my leg, he goes again, until he’s on my shoulder! A cashier took him off and put him in a large planter, until a coworker could take him to an animal rescue. His sister was rescued, the next day, and another brother and sister, a day after that. We suspect, a hawk, may have gotten their mother.
“Fall” is gray days, cold winds, and stinging rain. Strong coffee, dark mornings, walking in mud and dank puddles. “Autumn” is Indian summers, beautiful and colorful leaves on trees. Nice walks in the woods, and cozying up with a cup a tea and a book.
Spring also had two names. It was called “lent,” from the lengthening of days, but now that’s only the name of a church season. Now it has a name like “fall.” Leaves fall down, plants spring up.
Hamilton and I are going to make our first Pumpkin Pie of the season this weekend. This is also the weekend we will be trying a Corn Casserole from Hamilton’s recipe contest. Hamilton says the recipe looks like a big fuzzy blanket for the tummy.
I do enjoy Puck’s expression in panel 4. He’s not quite correct though. As the saying goes, spring, summer, and fall have the combined name of Road Construction in certain parts.
I somehow wasn’t aware OZ looked on Pucky Bear as her father figure, though it does make sense. I mean, Lupin is her twin brother from another mother, El Biff is far too dignified to be a parent to her, Goldie could, I suppose, be her mom, and clearly Iggy is another brother. So Puck has to be Papa.
We also have stick season in Vermont. Made more famous by Noah Kahan and his song. It is for late fall after the leaves fall. Then there is mud season which with climate change could be in January through April.
OT… I’ve recently noticed some loss of clarity in my left eye. Seeing the ophthalmologist later today. Any good vibes you want to send my way will be greatly appreciated. ❤️
Another quick reminder that some BCN tees are on sale for $13 from Threadless . Sale ends Friday 9/27 at 5pm CT. The new ghost designs are included, yay!!!
So…the formerly elusive Sunday strip. Panel 2 has 5 ladies who are, among other things, spilling tea. Three of them I recognize—from left to right, Tommy & Sophie’s Woman, THE Woman, Bookstore Woman, who also is Trevor and Beatrix’s Woman.
The other two (#1, #3, from the left) I don’t know. #1 could, I suppose, be Tabitha & Sir Figaro’s Woman, at least by hair color, but I don’t think she is, nor, I think, is she the Woman who Sits on Cats. So who are they?

Papa Pucky is the best. So patient with Ora Zella. And always ready for a snuggle.

Apparently, it was originally called “harvest”, then fall. Autumn is from French.

Autumn: the best season! The heat of summer fades and crisp days begin, thus the need for cozy sweaters and blankets.

I only recently discovered that Americans also use “autumn” as well as “fall”… Yet, I’ve never heard a British person use “fall” instead “autumn”…

For the first time in 34 days, it’s raining hard enough that I can’t see the farm fields across the road.

Meanwhile, Back on the Nile
At the Royal Kitchen
Thomios: Thanks for the spice’s, ladies. I have many ideas for autumn food. Anyone want a pumpkin spice latte?
Agnes-Ata: I would prefer a hot spiced cider.
Thomios: Coming right up. How about a pumpkin scone?
Agnes: That would be fine.
Alice-Ata: Pumpkin spice latte would suit me just fine.
Violet-Ifa: Ever notice how no one is half way about pumpkin spice? You never hear anyone say, “I can take or leave it.”
Ta-Natash: That’s true. Puckmosis can’t wait for autumn spice season, while Elvis poofs at the very mention of it.
Thomios: There is one who can take or leave it.
Enter Lupinium
Lupinium: Do you have any coffee? It can be pumpkin spice or not.
Tash: (Whispers) Just as long as it’s decatf.

From Sonnet 73 by William Shakespeare
That time of year thou mayst in me behold
When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang
Upon those boughs which shake against the cold,
Bare ruin’d choirs, where late the sweet birds sang.
