My Janis did not like hearing about the hurricane displacing the alligators. Displacing them where exactly.

Hurricanes, tornados, floods, droughts, ice and snow storms, fires, earthquakes, excessive heat, humidity, or cold.

Every region has its own combination of several of those. Plus whatever type of insects and animals to be aware of.

You pick a region, enjoy the good parts, plan and adapt to handle whatever happens with nature…and listen to people from other parts of the country say they could never deal with that.

My brother and his wife used to talk all the time about retiring in Florida (we live in NJ). Now, with the insanity of their weather and politics, they are staying in Jersey.

They’re not mentioning the major problem in areas of the southeast, insurance companies are leaving those area. No coverage is a major concern, could loose everything.

I’ll take hurricanes over the others. With current technologies, we get days of advanced notice.

The last 2 hurricanes haven’t exactly been a chamber of commerce poster for living in Florida. Wonder how many folks have said enough, I’m moving and how many folks put on hold plans to move down there?

Here in northernmost Maine, the locals have an expression: “He’s from away!” No matter how long I live here, I’ll always be ‘’from away’‘. If you grew up here and moved away for twenty years or so, you’ll also forever be ‘’from away’’.

Not only the weather but FEMA is being threatened with guns and other threats for trying to help people recover. The House is also denying any more funds for FEMA, another threat. Also Republicans voted against funds for FL. I can’t comment in politics, so I’ll do so wherever I can.

Called a few years back & asked my FL-born brother-in-law if they were evacuating; “It’s just a Category 3; I’ve sat through Cat 3s in a lawn chair.”

Florida seems to be snake bit. Perhaps if they made a sacrifice to the Gods they can change their luck. I’ve heard that the Gods are partial to the color Orange. . . .

Where exactly in Florida do they supposedly live? If they are on the West Coast and they are on the bay then I surprised they are open. with my own experiences I should think there would have been some sort of storm damage if only wind.

The last 2 hurricanes happened in the last 3 weeks. How much lead time does JJ have for these comics? Surely more than 3 weeks.

It was the yearly threat of hurricanes that led us to move away from the Gulf Coast after 24 years. I wouldn’t move back now, even though I sometimes miss it. But MaryLou is wrong, in my experience. It was the natives who shrugged off the storms (doing what they needed to do to prepare but never evacuating) and the newcomers who were quick to pack up and leave.

Not to be too harsh but if you buy a house on the east coast or along the Gulf shore when a hurricane hits you just have to put on your big boy/girl pants and deal with it. Get whatever insurance you can get and figure on rough weather now and then. But don’t come to the government for a bail out. Choosing to live in a beautiful place, weather wise has it’s pluses. But the minuses are dire and maybe dangerous. I sympathize with others’ problems but I don’t want to get the bill.

We’re staying here in Beautiful British Columbia. And being on Vancouver Island, close to the Salish Sea, it does not get too cold nor too snowy.
