The lesson here is to keep things in perspective. Your life may be dull, Luann.. but there are lots of people, worse off than you, who would love that dull life.
So Luann… maybe try to date some guys to spice things up a bit?
I think she just insulted Mrs Horner. Well, only YOU are in charge of your life. It’s up to you to have a more interesting life, Luann. Never mind. I was reminded that you are NOT in charge of your life. People named Greg and Karen are.
Tell you what, Luann—how about varying your schedule? Like, finish your homework BEFORE dinner and then relaxing with Bernice until bedtime? That will relax your brain and you’ll sleep better.
When did Mrs. Horner blow out both kidneys? That’s kind of a major development to just drop in casual conversation.
And for someone who never seems to do anything (or that we never see her do) Luann has quite a busy life. Too busy to be wandering around as a “blank slate.”
Hey guys, since when does Luanne need a boyfriend to have an interesting, fulfilling life? Isn’t that what the sixties were about? She needs an interest, something she loves to do, something she could get good at and even earn a living at, without needing a boyfriend to do it. THEN she’ll be a guy-magnet!
About 18 years ago, a long time friend of ours learned her kidneys were down to working less than 10%. She was on ‘peritoneal dialysis’ for 15 or 16 years. Every night she would connect herself to a machine that would flood her peritoneal area with a large amount of fluid while she slept, and it would remain in her all night until early morning when th machine would drain the fluid and all the waste or whatever it was that was absorbed out of her system and into a small line that went into a drain over in her bathroom. During th last few years of her life, she couldnt do that type of dialysis any more an had to go to a dialysis center ever few days for the regular type ‘hemodialysis’. Back in June, she decided she didnt want to live like that any more, and just stopped eating and drinking anything. We miss her in our lives.. we’d known her since 1982
Maybe the take home message Luann is not that your life is less lackluster (than you think) but that you should do things, i.e. have those extreme adventures, while you can and because you can, if for no other reason that you don’t look back (at a time when you can’t) and regret.
Of course, there are those Shoog Daddy Safaris in the micro mini little black cocktail dress in the bar at Casino Royale in Monaco with Our Be❤️ed Exotic Ann❤️Eiffel, Sexy❤️Stef, curvy (hubba! hubba!) Tuff❤️Tiff, Bets the Bae, and of course… Tone’ Tawny Tattooed❤️Toni! Be still, The Count’s ❤️! Beats the heck out of a diabetic old lady offering boxed store bought sugar cookies to an Eiffelette. Child please… No wonder we all ❤️ Our Be❤️ed … Dearest Ann❤️Eiffel and check back here every day for The Return of Ann❤️Eiffel, boy howdy.
Mrs. Horner is always positive about what happens to her. Luann should learn from her to believe in herself and dare to do things. She has already done a lot with this blank slate philosophy and I hope the new courses she’s taking will help her. It makes me laugh that she puts seeing friends and hang with Bernice as two different things.
Yesterday was brutal! Power, internet, phones out, then a brutal snow & wind storm, I shoveled all day, starting at 1 am and then fell down a slippery slope cleaning off my dish, hurt my back, knee, and wrist, most concerned about the back.My life is hard living where I do, but when I look at people with cancer…I can’t complain.
I guess I’m one of the few who think Luann is doing just fine. Maybe she doesn’t have many “over the top” experiences, but they aren’t necessary. Going to visit Mrs. Horner ABSOLUTELY IS a valuable and rewarding experience.
As an inpatient wound care nurse, I noticed that the “traveling dialysis nurse”, who brought the dialysis equipment to the hospital, and I spent a lot of time with the same patients- dialysis patients have all kinds of co-morbidities, and their wounds don’t heal well. “Frank”, the dialysis nurse, and I spent so much time together, I started referring to him as my “work husband”.
I’m so glad Luann is visiting Mrs. Horner. She always gives her encouragement and perspective. She needs both! I love Luann!!!! She truly is a blank slate full of potential. But only she can unlock that potential.
Years and years from now, you’ll look back on your “slate” and find it covered in all the experiences you’re having now. Your slate might not be exciting to strangers, but it won’t be blank!

You remind me I live in a shell
Safe from the past and doing okay
But not very well
No jolts no surprises no crisis arises
My life goes along as it should
It’s all very nice but not very good…
And I’m ready to take a chance again

I suppose this confirms that Luann only attends school part-time, if both her classes and tutoring are finished before lunch.
