When I was a valuable employee (haha) the company would fly me back to California once a month. My expense report always had dinners at In-N-Out Hamburgers. I did get a call once from accounting reminding me my per diem was like 5X my actual expense. I replied “But there was no In-N-Out at my home office.”
You know that Veeblefester is going to reject that expense report. His version of ‘surf and turf’ (for employees) maxes out at a McD’s burger and Filet-O-Fish.
If I were the customer if I stayed that waiter would’ve recent one penny**Leaving a penny is better than no tip because you’re telling the person exactly what you think of their service.
To me it would depend on how the steak was cooked. Rare, go with red wine, Medium, a rosé. Well done, go with a white wine. At that point the steak has all the flavor cooked out of it, the wine might as well enhance the taste of something.
One of each would be appropriate for those who can’t choose, especially if cost is not a concern. However, that pairing is more a suggestion than a rule. It is what you like that counts. In any event, since that raise thing didn’t work out quite the way you had hoped, don’t forget to order a very large and expensive dessert, maybe even two with a brandied coffee of course or maybe even two……
Brutus’s look tells me he’s tempted to just get both! The waiter is lucky that Brutus is his customer and not Veeblefester. That crack would have cost him a tip.
Pinot Noir, Riesling, Chardonnay, or Champagne all pair well with both meat and seafood. Most servers who are trained well will know this. I’m absolutely shocked and delighted that Brutus has such a generous expense account. ☺️
Not being fond of wine, I’d probably just order iced tea. But I can’t wait to see what happens when he tries to get that expense report past one of Veeblefester’s minions in accounting.

Has Brutus never heard of Rosé? I hear that a Caruso e Minini Frappato Organic Rosé is popular with Surf and Turf.

And leave the bottles.

Is this payback for the fast-food lunch the other day?

finding one wine to go with that combination is just as difficult as finding a wine that pairs with asperagus.

Okay … why don’t you? Unless you have a pink wine?
ladykat about 2 months ago
Sounds like a plan, Brutus!

So the waiter doesn’t know which wine would be appropriate, and disguises his ignorance with sarcasm…

They did that (with paint) in Operation Petticoat and got a pink submarine.

He’s going to need something stronger when he finds out the expense account has a 50 dollar limit, the wine is a 100 dollars a glass.

Don’t mix them together, then the red wine will conflict with the lobster and white will conflict with the steak.

Why not just bring him a blush wine? Don’t red and white mixed together make pink?

I would expect him to think of that, but not to have the waiter suggest it.
