Coming Soon đ At the beginning of April, youâll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
Waitâll you see (and trust me,you wonât) what incoming President Drunk Uncle does with your shrinking income as he ignores the cost of living prices he campaigned on.
Social Security and Medicare are supposed to be self-supporting. Our elected officials have the power to raise the payroll taxes to keep both programs in the black, but they are afraid to do so for fear of losing votes. Will those same members of Congress jump ship before both systems go in the red? Are we ready to accept a cut in monthly benefits of 17 to 25 percent by 2035?
Those that cry the loudest about paying taxes are the same ones that can most afford to pay taxes. Those that use the most of what taxes pay for cry the loudest about paying taxes. Such patriotic Americans.
Just put all the money in a pot and give everyone (employed) the same salary. Everyone would subsequently pay the same taxes.
It wouldnât work of course. A brain surgeon wouldnât be satisfied with earning as much as the waitress serving him coffee and managers couldnât look down on shop floor staff for precisely the same reason.
The economy weâve created depends on top dogs, greed and arrogance. Theyâre essential.
Did you hear, Zuckerberg at MEDA says itâs OK With him if you LIE on Facebook, so you can now attempt to tell more lies then trump and possibly take his place in the Gennis Book!
I worked for the feds for years. I would welcome an explanation as coherent as, âI set the money on fire and threw it down a manhole.â Most of the time you just get a shrug.
The way Iâve always heard it is that the government prints money for whatever they want, they donât need taxes. Taxes are just to keep you from having money, and thus drive up the value of the dollar. Your faith in its value allows them to print more. Of course, they no longer âprintâ, they just add a zero in a computer.
Iâm always amazed how quickly people respond to a comic strip by being nasty and name-calling anyone who disagrees with them. Weâre Americans and weâll get through whatever comes to us, we always have. Please think twice about what you post on a comic strip. We all come here to get a laugh.
âSetting it on fire and throwing it down a manholeâ sounds like buying armaments and using them to kill a few people, creating more people to hate us in the future.
And this is the problem with the under education of America. Money taken by the government is spent on salaries and goods, creating jobs for Americans. It is not burned, like so many seem to think. There is a balance between not enough taxation and too much, but, regardless, that money fuels the economy.
Come on Pastis, stop promoting this kind of ignorance, or your fellow citizens will start demanding macroeconomic policies that are guided by microeconomic policies. If they get really confused they might even turn to someone who declares bankruptcy for a living and ask him to balance the budget.
At least Uncle knows you âsetâ things on fire, not âlightâ things on fire, which I see increasingly. You light a match, but you donât light a match on fire. I would recommend that you âset fire toâ your money, or whatever, but the other is acceptable.
âWell, a little bit went to cancer research, and a whole lot more to subsidies for tobacco farmers. Then there was the pittance for sustainable energy research and the billions propping up the fossil fuel industry. And letâs not forget the billions to help Ukraine defend themselves from an aggressive, fascistic imperialistic invader, and the trillions to help an aggressive, fascistic, imperialistic invader destroy Palestine. Or the $5 spent prosecuting violent insurrectionists, and the hundreds of millions to protect their vile leader for the rest of his treasonous life. Now, as for those military bases in 168 foreign countriesâŚâŚâ
In the last four years our âsane uncleâ⌠did not threaten our allied countries in NATO, rebuilt a major bridge, fed children, lowered Rx costs, promoted manufacturing computer chips in the US, and presided over the peaceful transfer of power on Jan. 6âŚ..but go on with what Drunk Uncle tells you. The next 4 years will be noteworthy, but not how you think it will be for you personally.

Setting it on fire and throwing it down a manhole is a lot better than what some of our tax dollars have been spent on.

I have heard people complain that our government spends money like a drunk sailor. I disagree. At least a drunk sailor is only spending his OWN money.

Theyâve done nothing but cut the top tax rate for 40 years, and the result is more debt, less services, and an income gap that is truly obscene.
âRun Government like a business!â they say. As though any business would cut itâs own revenue and reduce service to pay for it.

Todayâs strip is kinda misleading in a way that the government will not âborrowâ from the people, they just take what they say they âneedâ;)

The government and most Americans have a lot in commonâthey both spend money like they have unlimited credit, and neither has a plan to pay it off.

Thereâs something huge
Red, white, and blue
Thatâs grazing in D.C.
Itâs gobbling up the taxes
That are paid by you and me
It doesnât seem to notice
We really canât afford
The billions that itâs costing us
To pay its room and board
It doesnât roam but seems content
To dwell on Capitol Hill
As long as trucks keep pulling up
With tons of green-back bills
Weâve got to feed the big guy
We really canât forget
It has an awesome appetite
Tyrannosaurus Debt
The debtâs a monster problem
That we really canât ignore
I guess we should be grateful
That itâs not a carnivore
Weâve got to keep on servicing
Our trillion dollar pet
Itâs got a monster appetite
Tyrannosaurus Debt
