I have heard people complain that our government spends money like a drunk sailor. I disagree. At least a drunk sailor is only spending his OWN money.

Social Security and Medicare are supposed to be self-supporting. Our elected officials have the power to raise the payroll taxes to keep both programs in the black, but they are afraid to do so for fear of losing votes. Will those same members of Congress jump ship before both systems go in the red? Are we ready to accept a cut in monthly benefits of 17 to 25 percent by 2035?

Those that cry the loudest about paying taxes are the same ones that can most afford to pay taxes. Those that use the most of what taxes pay for cry the loudest about paying taxes. Such patriotic Americans.

Uncle Sam in in the unique position of being able to print more money as needed without being done for forgery.

Just put all the money in a pot and give everyone (employed) the same salary. Everyone would subsequently pay the same taxes.

It wouldn’t work of course. A brain surgeon wouldn’t be satisfied with earning as much as the waitress serving him coffee and managers couldn’t look down on shop floor staff for precisely the same reason.

The economy we’ve created depends on top dogs, greed and arrogance. They’re essential.

They’ve done nothing but cut the top tax rate for 40 years, and the result is more debt, less services, and an income gap that is truly obscene.

“Run Government like a business!” they say. As though any business would cut it’s own revenue and reduce service to pay for it.

I worked for the feds for years. I would welcome an explanation as coherent as, “I set the money on fire and threw it down a manhole.” Most of the time you just get a shrug.

The way I’ve always heard it is that the government prints money for whatever they want, they don’t need taxes. Taxes are just to keep you from having money, and thus drive up the value of the dollar. Your faith in its value allows them to print more. Of course, they no longer “print”, they just add a zero in a computer.

And this is the problem with the under education of America. Money taken by the government is spent on salaries and goods, creating jobs for Americans. It is not burned, like so many seem to think. There is a balance between not enough taxation and too much, but, regardless, that money fuels the economy.

The government and most Americans have a lot in common—they both spend money like they have unlimited credit, and neither has a plan to pay it off.

No, that’s not what he does with it.

Come on Pastis, stop promoting this kind of ignorance, or your fellow citizens will start demanding macroeconomic policies that are guided by microeconomic policies. If they get really confused they might even turn to someone who declares bankruptcy for a living and ask him to balance the budget.

It was delightful to see all the real Presidents snubbing Dump today except Obama who had to maintain his dignity since he drew the short straw.

One wonders if Michelle was ill or just couldn’t bare the thought of sitting next to ‘that’…

In the last four years our ’sane uncle’… did not threaten our allied countries in NATO, rebuilt a major bridge, fed children, lowered Rx costs, promoted manufacturing computer chips in the US, and presided over the peaceful transfer of power on Jan. 6…..but go on with what Drunk Uncle tells you. The next 4 years will be noteworthy, but not how you think it will be for you personally.

Worry more about who is on the receiving end of those taxes, what contractors are getting rich.
