    I think he has a point about the tooth fairy. Unless she has some cunning scam that makes the teeth really valuable. (I only got sixpence for most of mine, but I think I got a shilling each for the last few. )

    And I note that while he can’t do even simple arithmetic in class, when it comes to calculating profit for himself, his ability suddenly improves.

    Obviously personal involvement is the key.

    Now if he were actually on one of those trains that are regularly rushing towards each other at given speeds, he might be able to calculate exactly when he would perish horribly in a spectacular crash.

    The drawback is that he has to inform Mom first because she notifies the fairy. He may be able to fool the fairy, but not Mom.
