Wasnât that in retaliation for the snowball she threw at him yesterday? Calvin and Susie are a likely pairâthey can both dish it out but canât take it.
As some commentators have already said, todayâs strip is a good contrast to yesterdayâs strip in which Susie was the one who threw a snowball at Calvin. She did it with much more accuracy of course.
This is the one beef I have about Watterson. Susie often responds with physical violence beyond the measure of the insult that Calvin inflicts on her. Had the situation been reversed, it would not have been acceptable.
While male violence on women is too common, the reverse, which does exist, should not be tolerated either. It really should not be played for laughs, although I donât know how the literal punchline for this strip would have worked without it.
In the 1950âs there was I Love Lucy. Since then sitcoms use the âstupid maleâ meme as their main theme. One of my most beloved shows, Frasier, did this and come to think of it Big Bang Theory did it too. Iâm sorry that I do not have more current examples, except for certain sporting events, I donât watch TV anymore.
Reminds me of the armed robbery case in my county where the Defendant decided to represent himself. Prosecution witness on the stand pointed out the Defendant as the one whoâd held him up. Defendant begins his cross examination with âisnât it true you couldnât tell who it was who held you up because I was wearinâ a mask?â
Of course, sometimes even having a lawyer doesnât help. In another armed robbery case, a colleague of mine had one of those clients who just would not stay quiet. When the witness testified that the masked man who held them up was wielding a black handgun, the client told his lawyer, in a whisper so loud the whole courtroom could hear, âSheâs lyinâ! That gun was silver!!â
I actually was in the courtroom for the second one.
Susie doesnât have Calâ arm. Yesterday, she nailed him and knocked him out of his shoes. In this arc, she decked him but he still has his shoes on. She really likes him.
All Susie needs now is a tight little leather action jacket like most women in shows today such as Dr Who and SVU. These âkick a$$â women with attitude get tiresome.

Asking for a new trial is meaningless, since the sentence was already carried out.

Notice that Susie throws with a good, sturdy Paff, while Calvin only manages a little âPiffâ. (See yesterdayâs snowball.)
